00:00Selangor on Saturday officially launched its first national geopark, spanning 112,955 hectares
00:14across both the Gombak and Hululangat districts. The Gombak-Hululangat Geopark encompasses
00:2031 geosites, with 20 designated as eco- and geotourism destinations.
00:27Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, officiated the event.
00:32Tourism Selangor leads the geopark initiative, supported by key partners including Plan Malaysia,
00:38the Department of Mineral and Geoscience, and local municipal councils.
00:43This is the seventh national geopark under the Geopark Development Programme
00:48by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia on 14 November 2022.
00:53With this recognition, the development in this area is recognized as a heritage of geological,
01:00biological and cultural importance. And what is more special is that for Malaysia,
01:06this is the first geopark located in the city area.
01:10In line with the first Selangor plan, to make Selangor a smart,
01:15capable and prosperous country, the state government is very supportive of efforts
01:19towards high-impact tourism and heritage, especially with high demands
01:25among tourists to segment eco- and geo-tourism.
01:31The state government is confident that the Gombak-Hululangat will be the main driver
01:36to promote tourism attractions that still retain the landscape and its origin.
01:41The geopark is aiming for UNESCO Global Geopark Recognition in 2028,
01:46as it is designed to meet international standards while preserving its natural landscapes.
01:52I'm so proud and very happy that we get that as a geopark area.
01:59I think after this, our activity will be more, people will come.
02:04Today you can see a lot of people coming, like last year.
02:09But this year, I happen to see more participants come here.
02:14The launching ceremony was held alongside the Guadamai Carnival
02:17at the Guadamai Extreme Park, which is part of the geopark.
