Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy jumps on with the boys live to discuss the game plan against the Texans on Monday night. He explains that the pain in Rush's neck could have been a reason for his poor performance last week and discusses that it also effected the play calling and was a reason there were not as many deep balls. Will McCarthy switch up his play calling to give Rush a chance to redeem himself?

00:00Mike McCarthy joins here 105 through the fan.
00:18All right, this past week, you know, Cooper, this was not the best game he's had.
00:22We've seen him play tremendous in the past.
00:25Do you think his neck was the main reason for his performance on Sunday?
00:31I mean, it definitely didn't help him.
00:34He took a good shot there, so he's shown better.
00:39But hey, it's another week.
00:42There's always plays early in the game, especially any time you're having your first start or
00:50you come in as a backup, you know, you're just trying to get some credibility into the
00:56game.
00:57I'm talking about just getting completions and getting on a roll and getting that momentum
01:02going in the huddle.
01:04And we just really can never establish that.
01:07Coach, we know you want to go downfield more.
01:10We saw him make a couple of nice throws the previous week.
01:13Was the lack of downfield passing attack more of what they were doing defensively?
01:19Upper neck, a combination of things.
01:22What led to kind of the lack of downfield attempts in the passing game?
01:27I think, you know, just like anything, you're going through a game plan, you're usually
01:32setting up those type of throws, those type of plays, and, you know, I was, you know,
01:40I felt like we were in good shape at halftime as far as, you know, how we were playing the
01:44game.
01:45You know, you take away the two turnovers here, I mean, those were huge plays in the
01:49first half.
01:50I mean, it's a different ballgame for us, you know.
01:52We would have definitely been in the lead, but the ability to run it and set some of
01:56those throws up was the plan.
01:57You know, the thing that really got us was, you know, the 3-0 in the second half and then
02:02the three giveaways.
02:03It's just, you know, you're not going to get behind people too much in that situation.
02:09Coach, we heard you speak really highly before of your quarterbacks coach and a former player
02:14of yours, Scott Tolsing.
02:16When you're trying to get a backup quarterback ready to play, like Cooper Rush, how helpful
02:20is it to have somebody there coaching the position who you've had direct experience
02:24with preparing them to do this very thing and play in place of your starter?
02:28So, I mean, I think it's very important.
02:31I think the opportunity to have former quarterbacks in the room is important.
02:36You know, Scott has been in Cooper's chair, so, and they, you know, they have a different
02:43relationship than, you know, than anybody on that team, so, yeah, I think it's very
02:48important to have former quarterbacks in your room.
02:51And I know just from a design perspective, you know, as a head coach, you know, always
02:57being, you know, in the quarterback room for 30 plus years, but, you know, I did not play
03:01the position, so I think it's important to have, you know, if you can, one of your former
03:06quarterbacks, but definitely have that quarterback experience in the room.
03:10I think it's a relationship, it's a connection that Scott has with the other quarterbacks
03:16that's very important.
