00:00Apple has been accused of ripping off millions of British customers over its cloud storage
00:05service. The tech giant is facing accusations of essentially trapping 40 million users in
00:13the British Isles into using iCloud and then overcharging them for the service. I'm tech
00:20writer Matt Mohan-Hickson, and this is all you need to know. So these accusations have
00:24been filed in a legal action by which the consumer champion giant and they filed the
00:30action with the Competition Appeal Tribunal in the UK. So it claims that the Apple have
00:37breached UK competition laws by giving its iCloud storage service preferential treatment
00:44and basically locking in customers into using it. So if you've ever owned an Apple device
00:50like an iPhone, an iPad, etc, etc, you're probably familiar with getting a notification
00:57like sort of urging you to subscribe to iCloud saying that you're running out of space, that
01:03you know, you're not going to be able to back up all your photos or your videos, which is
01:06accusing Apple of making it difficult for alternative providers. And also because they
01:13send, you know, frequent notifications telling you to sign up for iCloud that you were in
01:18low storage. That's sort of, you know, trapping customers. The legal action has been filed
01:24and which are hoping that they can get back as much as three billion pounds for customers.
01:29They say that this practice with iCloud has been going on since 2015. We don't know what
01:34will come out of it, but which are hoping to get money back for their customers and
01:39to change Apple's practices, at least in the UK, when it comes to iCloud and maybe giving
01:45people and, you know, easier abilities to use alternative cloud backup storage systems
01:52on their iPhones and iPads.
