Hundreds of police officers have begun strike action in Victoria over a protracted pay dispute. Officers at the police academy in Glen Waverley and Broadmeadows police station walked off their posts for 30-minute blocks on Thursday, 14th November, as part of a series of stop-work meetings. Officers want a 24% pay rise over four years and 8.5-hour shifts.

00:00It's a great job, and I love it, and I think most members still enjoy it, but it's really hurting,
00:06you know, and people are asking themselves, is it worth it? You know, is it really worth it?
00:13And I'm finding it difficult to say to people, yeah, it is, you know. They're struggling to
00:18get people through the door here, and even when they do, they're leaving at a quicker rate.
00:21There's a problem, right? There's a problem that needs to be sorted,
00:24wants to be recognised, and we need to be rewarded with proper wages.
00:28The accountability is so high now, in the sense that, you know, everyone's got to,
00:32everything you do is under the microscope, and as it should be. We've got a difficult job.
00:37I think we need to be acknowledged that it's worth the commitment that we put in,
00:40and you go to work every day, and the effort that the members go to, to keep the community safe.
00:47The government's clearly got the capacity to pay more,
00:49so just pay it, and don't suffer place and place size, the indignity of having to beg
00:54as a Fair Work Commission. They shouldn't have to.
