00:00I feel like in those mistakes that I did, people know about it but not all of Malaysians know about it.
00:06So I feel like that helped me study and navigate fame and how it changes the public's perception towards you and how it changes not just the public, but the people around me, their perception towards me and even my family.
00:21I realised that as much as I am approaching this life first-hand, my family is approaching having someone famous in their life too and how are they navigating this?
00:39Great!
00:40Hey guys, welcome back to episode 2 of Celebrity Podcast with me, Dain Trisha.
00:51Well, I've had my fair share of early popularity when I was in school because I was the YouTube girl, right?
01:15So I was already performing in school and at that time, the other students in the class were talking about you.
01:24The third-year students were talking about you, Dain.
01:27I'm famous, I'm famous in Bangi.
01:30So it started as that, you know?
01:32I was so young.
01:36And then after that, it started being like, oh, I got to know other cities because of YouTube.
01:42And then suddenly, oh, I got to know another university in another country.
01:45So it always, for me, I feel like fame has not come to me all at once.
01:52It's like, eventually, you know?
01:54Allah has put me in a little bit of fame.
01:57A little bit, a little bit, a little bit.
01:58I didn't like, rock it into it, you know?
02:00I wasn't an overnight star or anything.
02:04So, it never came to me as a culture shock or came to me as a surprise because I really felt a little bit.
02:12And so, but I feel like when it started happening the most was when I think...
02:25I don't know.
02:27I don't think there has ever been a point where it's like people don't know me and then they know me.
02:35I wouldn't say...
02:41I never had that experience.
02:44I've always had, eventually, gradually, you know?
02:49People knowing me as a person.
02:51And I feel like maybe I'd rather be like that because you'll never know, you know?
02:58Maybe I would go into a culture shock phase where I make stupid decisions and things like that.
03:03So, maybe I'm just blessed in that way.
03:06So, that's how it is.
03:15Well, I released Kuran Akau when I was 20, I think.
03:21It was my first single ever professionally released.
03:28And so, that was...
03:31Now that I think about it, it's very humbling because like, oh my god.
03:35I even re-recorded Kuran Akau, you know?
03:37Because I was just so embarrassed of the first one.
03:40But actually, when I think about it, no, I'm not...
03:43My friend told me once that he cried listening to Kuran Akau mainly because of the innocence of it.
03:49And he was reminded from the time that he started his career, you know?
03:56So, when I heard that, I feel like, oh, wow.
03:58If this gives people like, you know,
04:02gives them back the memory to where they came from, then I'm not ashamed of it anymore.
04:07But yeah, Kuran Akau was the song that I first wrote that was released professionally.
04:15And that was my Taylor Swift teardrops on my guitar.
04:23So, basically, if you wanna put it in a first single, you're like,
04:28this is me. I'm a songwriter, guys.
04:31I play the guitar, guys.
04:33So, that was the song.
04:35Yeah, that was special.
04:37I really still like that song.
04:40It's very cute.
04:41And it was 16-year-old me's song.
04:45I also wanna say, Kuran Akau was also the song that made a lot of kids
04:52know me as a singer.
04:54So, like, shout out to everyone.
04:57Like, to all these kids who watched Dee and grew up with me.
05:02Like, they watched me when I was in elementary school,
05:04they watched me when I was in kindergarten,
05:06they watched me when I was in high school, right?
05:08Because it was on Astroceria.
05:10And they grew up with me for like five years.
05:12And the song stuck in their head as a theme song that they grew up with.
05:18And so, as much as I wanna erase that part of me,
05:21at one time, I felt like, oh my god, this is so embarrassing.
05:24I don't feel like that at all now because of these kids
05:28and how fond they are of Dee.
05:31And so, I just wanna thank these kids.
05:35Thank you for appreciating Dee the way that you are appreciating it right now.
05:39And make me realize that, hey, actually Dee has made a lot of significance
05:44into the lives of, like,
05:48of, like, you know, these students who grew up with Dee
05:52and look to Dee as an idol.
05:55So, you know, thank you.
05:58Seriously, I feel like I was shocked when I came to the realization,
06:01especially on TikTok.
06:02Like, it's huge.
06:03It's not huge, but it's like, people talk about it.
06:06You know, I know Dee.
06:07Oh my god, is this Kak Dee?
06:09You know, it's a part of me that I feel like I wanted to erase
06:12when I became a cool adult, you know, doing cool things.
06:15But then, like, actually, no.
06:17Thank you for reminding me that this part of me exists
06:20and that there are a lot of kids who love Dee, you know?
06:24So, yeah, I just wanted to highlight that.
06:36I think part of how I was raised
06:40is an important element
06:46into how I stay grounded.
06:50At least, I try to stay grounded.
06:52Sorry if I'm being arrogant.
06:55No, I just feel like it's where my family came from, I would say.
07:02You know, I have a hometown in Kuantan.
07:04And so, there's a lot of things that I love about my family
07:08and our community.
07:09And so, maybe, sometimes, if I don't keep my head on the ground,
07:15I feel embarrassed.
07:16You know?
07:17So, maybe, a lot of it is because of my family and my friends.
07:22And so, I feel like, one more thing that I want to highlight,
07:25I feel like it's very important for a celebrity
07:27to have friends outside of the celebrity circle.
07:31Like, really.
07:34There are a lot of weird people out there.
07:37I swear, because they don't have normal friends.
07:42I talk to this with my friend, Yaya, all the time.
07:46I feel like, sometimes, people tend to make really weird decisions,
07:49especially when they're in the industry,
07:50because they don't have normal friends
07:52who tell them that,
07:54guys, this is not normal.
07:56So, I kind of talk to my high school friends
08:01and my normal, real-life friends a lot
08:06just to keep my head on the ground,
08:09keep my head on par with the situation that's going on.
08:14And I feel like you could really tell
08:18how a person is based on who their friends are
08:22and to which part of the friendship that they've kept for how long.
08:30If this person...
08:32That's going to be one of my measurements of a person.
08:36I don't know if that makes sense,
08:37but if I met you for the first time,
08:39I'll be like,
08:40oh, so who are your friends?
08:42Are you still friends with your high school friends?
08:47Are you still friends with your low school friends?
08:49So, I feel like that says a lot about a person and their value.
08:54So, I think it's really important to have friends like that
08:57who checks on you.
08:59Like, you're not right, you're weird, why?
09:01You know what I mean?
09:02It's really important.
09:03So, whatever level of fame that you are in,
09:08it's just...
09:09When strangers kind of know a lot of your private life,
09:13it's not normal.
09:15So, I just feel like if you have friends who are not into those things,
09:19it sort of helps you keep in check of yourself.
09:30I think I can relate this question back to, like,
09:33gradually become famous.
09:35Because, in a way,
09:37when I was gradually becoming an artist,
09:41or someone who people know,
09:43I made a lot of mistakes.
09:45So, even then, I learned a lot.
09:48Like I said, I think maybe it's a blessing
09:50that I'm not, like, pop superstar famous.
09:52Because I would have made a lot of mistakes
09:54that would have been judged in a way that's so unfair.
09:58And that happened to a lot of, you know,
10:00some of my friends who became, you know,
10:02overnight sensation.
10:04So, I feel like in those mistakes that I did,
10:07like, people know about it,
10:09but not all of Malaysians know about it.
10:11So, I feel like that helped me study and navigate fame,
10:15and how it changes public's perception towards you,
10:19and how it changes, not just public,
10:21the people around me,
10:23when your perception towards me,
10:25and even my family.
10:26I realized that as much as I am approaching this life,
10:31like, first-hand,
10:33my family is approaching having someone famous
10:37in their life too.
10:39And how are they navigating this?
10:44Sorry.
10:50Okay, I feel like
10:53as much as I'm trying to navigate fame
10:56on my own personal level,
10:58I feel like my family had to navigate
11:00having someone famous in our life as well,
11:04or someone that people know.
11:05Because my mom being a teacher,
11:08and she had all these students,
11:10and it was, um,
11:13maybe when I made mistakes at the time,
11:15they were a bit difficult
11:17because her students would talk to her about it.
11:19Yeah, and so,
11:21and my brother right now being in college,
11:24and whatever news that he would read about me,
11:30about things that I did wrong,
11:32and his friends would know about it.
11:34So I feel like the reason I get emotional
11:36is because I kind of forget that
11:39people around our life,
11:41people around my life,
11:42is dealing with my decision-making as well.
11:47And it doesn't just appeal to
11:51me, or people who are famous.
11:54But then, everyone,
11:56our decision-making is important
11:59because our close friends and our close families
12:01are directly affected by it.
12:05But yeah,
12:09that's how I feel navigating.
12:21Um,
12:24I am a Capricorn.
12:26I don't know how,
12:27I don't know why I said it,
12:28but I feel like there's a,
12:32there's a reason why I am so bloody ambitious.
12:39And so,
12:41and such an overachiever.
12:43Um, so,
12:45I cannot say how I work,
12:47or my motivation,
12:49um,
12:51and my determination is the same as somebody else.
12:54But from my point of view,
12:56I have just always been
12:58the most annoying overachiever kid
13:01that you have ever met in your life.
13:03So I feel like that kind of put me
13:06to reach my goals,
13:09no matter what it takes.
13:13And so,
13:15I feel like in a way, it's good.
13:17And if there's any advice that I would give
13:19to young people out there,
13:20it's just to be that,
13:23be that person.
13:25Just be annoying in like,
13:27annoying to yourself, what I mean.
13:29Just be annoying
13:31and tell yourself that you have to get this,
13:33no matter what it takes.
13:34But don't like cheat people lah, you know.
13:36No matter what it takes too, I mean
13:38in discipline,
13:40in skills, in practice,
13:42and being nice,
13:44and being kind.
13:46And so,
13:48apapun, it's really up to you
13:50to like, push yourself.
13:51Nobody else would want
13:53what you want as much as you do.
13:56I would say that.
13:57And it's hard.
13:59But you just have to do it.
14:08Thank you for watching episode two.
14:11My walls are
14:13breaking down now,
14:14which I do not want it to happen.
14:16But stay tuned to episode three.
14:18Maybe I'll just ball my ass out.
14:20Bye guys.
