Chris Wilder on Sheffield United rediscovering their vital connection after derby win over Wednesday

00:00I was going to ask that last question,

00:01about that reconnection you mentioned earlier,

00:03does that almost, because we know what it's like in the summer after coming down,

00:05does that almost please you more than any statistic or any table?

00:09We were miles off of it last year, miles off of it.

00:11It was a difficult season, of course.

00:13You know, we weren't prepared to go into the Premier League,

00:16you know, lost the two, arguably two best players.

00:21Decisions there, maybe not from the club, maybe players or whatever,

00:27not to renew or, I don't want to get too caught in all that,

00:31but it was a real difficult time.

00:35Difficult for Paul, difficult for me.

00:38The players were undercooked and the Premier League is an incredibly ruthless division

00:43and what it can do to you.

00:47So, to bring it all back together was key.

00:50The time was for a change, I think everybody recognised that.

00:53You know, I speak to Flecky and I speak to those boys

00:56and the majority of them understood it all.

00:59It was time to change the way we played,

01:02it was time to bring some energy from the academy in.

01:07You know, our academy record is incredible.

01:09For an 18-year-old boy to go on the pitch, be our centre-forwards up to date,

01:15was a great experience for him, for Femi to come on, for City to come on.

01:20I really liked those boys.

01:24So, bringing those young boys in, smart signings that we've made,

01:30the fees that we paid for Cooper and Burroughs.

01:35A lot of hard work went into the summer's recruitment,

01:39but most importantly it was the players, their attitude and personality

01:42in terms of wanting to achieve and wanting to run around

01:48and be a player for this football club.

01:51I'm enjoying working with them, we're all enjoying it.

01:53Me and Nilly and all the coaches are enjoying it.

01:55They're a real tight group, you've seen the scenes at the end.

01:58They're not just going off left, right and centre.

02:01There's subs that didn't get on a notch walking down the tunnel.

02:04You've seen it, Tom Davies is on the pitch, Rhys is on the pitch,

02:07Rhian's on the pitch.

02:09And you need that, you need that to get us,

02:11you especially need it here at Sheffield United.
