00:00Here's today's Derbyshire Times video bulletin.
00:03A man has been jailed for more than a decade after an armed robbery at a Derbyshire home
00:07where he threatened his victim with a machete. Nilojan Ndu was identified following forensic
00:12tests on blood which was left at the scene of the incident at Sooke Home Road in Shirebrooke
00:17in 2021. The victim was threatened with a machete during the incident and had his mobile phone,
00:23wallet, cash, bank cards and passport stolen. Ndu of no fixed address was sentenced to 12
00:28years imprisonment at a hearing for the aggravated burglary. Detective Constable Lucy Bell who's
00:34the officer in the case said, this is a substantial sentence which takes into account the seriousness
00:39of Ndu's crime. Being able to feel safe at home is a basic right and burglary rips that away from
00:45victims. In this case the victim was at home when his house was broken into and that fear of threat
00:50and violence must have been absolutely terrifying. Whilst no sentence can undo what has happened to
00:55him I hope that knowing that Ndu is behind bars offers some comfort to him.
01:02A fish and chip boss is looking forward to opening his second takeaway.
01:06Sandy Singh who is 31 will launch the Kalo Fryer at All Pits Road Kalo on November the 20th.
01:12The premises were previously occupied by the Kalo Fish Bar which closed in the summer. Sandy has
01:17built a reputation for serving good food at reasonable prices having launched a Spire Fryer
01:22on Stephenson's Place in Chesterfield a couple of months ago.
