00:00I've been in the Christmas Shopping Cascades for 14 years, I think it is this year, every
00:13time in the Shopping Centre, but one year we couldn't get a shop in the Shopping Centre
00:17so we were out further down Commercial Road but still in Portsmouth. But yeah, 14 years
00:22I think it is this year.
00:23And you've only been open a few weeks now, so how's it all going?
00:25It's going well, yeah. Since Halloween and Bonfire Nights finished, we've become a lot
00:32busier, people can concentrate on Christmas, even Scrooges and Humbugs, the world are more
00:37happier to get into it after that. So yeah, it's going well, it's picking up slowly, people
00:42start to decorate their homes, so it gets busier I think.
00:44Yeah, it's really starting to ramp up a bit now.
00:46Yes, yes, yeah. We call it decorating season, so it's like starting from next week until
00:51maybe the second week of December is our busiest times because that's when everybody's decorating
00:55and that's predominantly what we sell, decorations.
00:58Yeah, and have you got any, what are your most popular products been or any new products?
01:02Owl from the Shelf, by far. It's grown in popularity year after year. We started doing
01:06it the first year and we had a small section and it's just gained momentum as the years
01:10have gone on and this year it takes up quite a lot of the shop. Yeah, it's very, very popular.
01:16But Owl from the Shelf is one of them, although a few stores do do them, it is something that
01:20we really specialise in more so than I've seen anywhere else. And the pick section and
01:26the garlands around that side and candy canes and stuff as well. We always did the red and
01:31white candy cane, which has now become popular everywhere, but this year we've got the gingerbread
01:34man and the pink and white candy cane, which is a bit more, you know, unique to us.
01:41And this is a family run, isn't it?
01:43It is. Myself, my husband and three children. Yeah, our youngest is 16 and our oldest is
01:4821 and we all work together.
01:50We all enjoy doing Christmas food.
01:52Yeah, we all like, yeah, actually, considering we're, you know, working together, it works
01:56reasonably well. We know each other's good points and bad points and when to just walk
02:01away and, you know, but on the whole, yeah, yeah, we like working together. Yeah, it works
02:06well for us.
02:07Obviously, you might seem to see the Shelf as your only Christmas shop based on Christmas.
02:10One of your favourite times of the year is you love it.
02:12I love autumn. Autumn is my favourite season anyway. And obviously that can lead up to
02:15Christmas. I do really, really, really love Christmas. So I feel like I don't have to
02:19decorate my home quite so early. Some people are decorating now. I don't because I get
02:24my fix here.
