On the evening of Tuesday, November 12 hundreds of Newcastle residents took Grey Street and Grey's Monument to celebrate the start of the festive season on Tyneside.
After children's entertainment and appearances from Joe McElderry, Santa Claus and the Lord Mayor of Newcastle Rob Higgins the lights were turned on just after 7pm, signalling the start of Christmas.
