00:0012 illegal immigrants working for a Bangladeshi employer were arrested during an early morning
00:07raid in Malacca on Tuesday.
00:09Malacca Immigration Department Director Anirwan Fauzi Mohamed Aini said the individuals were
00:15found hiding in makeshift tents in a secondary jungle and a hut at a construction site along
00:22Jalan Tambak Bugis in Telok Mas.
00:25He said a woman was among those who were detained during the raid at 1am.
00:29He said the hut contained a cooking area with a stove and refrigerator.
00:33He said the illegal immigrants were asleep when immigration officers ambushed the site.
00:39The suspects were employed by a Bangladeshi contractor for a bungalow project at the site
00:44and they had been working there for the past four months.
00:47It is not clear whether the employer has proper documents as he was not present during the
00:52raid.
00:53The Immigration Department also conducted checks on 42 foreigners across eight locations
00:59including restaurants and massage parlours in Malim, Telok Mas, Batu Berendam and Klebang
01:05during the state-wide operation.
