00:00The 2024 US House of Representatives elections have left the nation on edge, as both major
00:11parties, the Republicans and Democrats, battle for control.
00:16As of late Thursday, the Associated Press has called for 15 of the 435 races, but with
00:25no clear winner yet.
00:28Republicans have clinched 213 seats, while Democrats hold 202, with 218 needed to claim
00:36a majority.
00:38This means, for now, control of the House remains in limbo.
00:43So what's at stake?
00:45And what does this mean for the future of US legislation?
00:57In an election where every seat matters, Democrats are clinching to hope, with 11 races
01:04still up for grabs in key battlegrounds.
01:08Republicans, however, are leading in 9 of those remaining contests, which means they
01:15are still on track to hold on to their majority.
01:20If things stay as they are, the GOP will likely retain control, but there's always
01:27a chance the landscape could change.
01:37In Pennsylvania, Republicans have already flipped two districts, as well as a seat in
01:44Michigan.
01:45Meanwhile, they are also leading in traditionally democratic areas like Alaska and Colorado.
01:52Democrats, however, have seen some successes of their own, flipping seats in New York,
01:59but they are also trailing in GOP incumbents in California and Arizona.
02:05The big question is, can Democrats flip enough of these districts to reach the magic number
02:13of 218 seats?
02:22With the fight for the House so tight, this election will determine how President-elect
02:28Donald Trump will be able to legislate.
02:31If Republicans hold on to the House, they will have unified control of government, with
02:38the Senate already in GOP hands.
02:41This will allow Trump to pass legislation more easily and enact his agenda.
02:48However, if Democrats manage to take control of the House, they will have the power to
02:55block or stall parts of Trump's legislative priorities.
03:01Right now, Republicans have about a 98% chance of retaining the majority, according to election
03:08betting odds.
03:10But as House Minority Leader Hakeem Jafreed says, wait for the results, the race isn't
03:17over yet.
03:26No matter who ultimately wins, this election comes against the backdrop of a divided Congress.
03:33For the last two years, lawmakers have struggled with partisan gridlock.
03:38The GOP's narrow majority has made it hard to pass significant bills.
03:44And infighting within the party has only made things more complicated.
03:56So what will it be?
03:59Republican control or a last-minute Democratic surge?
04:03As the final results come in, we will be watching closely.
04:07One thing is for sure, the next few years will be pivotal in shaping the future of American
04:13governance.
