00:07Content creators have been sharing videos on social media where they offer advice, tips, tricks and hacks on how to
00:14maximize your sleep with some of the suggestions advising magnesium supplements, mouth taping,
00:21nostril expanders and white noise machines.
00:24The average adult is advised to get between seven to nine hours of sleep at night.
00:30However, some of the sleep maxing suggestions have been discouraged by experts as they may cause more harm than good.

00:43advised that there's a lack of evidence around taking magnesium supplements for sleep with potential side effects
00:51including digestive issues such as diarrhea or nausea.
00:54It's recommended that if you plan on taking any supplements that you consult with your doctor or a medical practitioner before doing so.
01:03When it came to mouth taping, Day explained that the practice is not safe or scientifically supported method
01:10for helping to ease snoring. In fact, it could potentially be dangerous,
01:15especially if you have medical conditions such as sleep apnea.
