00:00The People's Television Network and the Commission on Elections, or COMLEX, signed a memorandum of

00:04agreement today to create a television program that would provide accurate and reliable information

00:10about the 2025 midterm elections. Luisa Irispe has more.

00:17Several government agencies work hand-in-hand to fight against fake and irrelevant news

00:22nationwide, most especially during an election period when several individuals or entities try

00:28to attack the integrity of the polls. That's why the People's Television Network and the

00:33Commission on Elections decided to form a partnership in battling fake news for the 2025

00:39polls. Today, a memorandum of agreement was signed between the two government entities

00:44and inked by the heads themselves, PTV General Manager Antonio Baltazar,

00:49Toby Nebrida Jr. and COMLEX Chairman George Erwin Garcia.

00:58Media and news agencies, as correctly observed by Chairman George, played a crucial role in defining

01:22the issues, the characters, and the platforms of the protagonists. This is where I see your

01:30national network, People's Television Network, coming in to this current situation that we have

01:36now. If our voters are not armed with the right information, how can we expect our voters to arrive

01:51at an intelligent decision? The partnership will create or produce a television program

01:57which will air in PTV for 30 minutes every week and will contain three segments. First stop,

02:03the COMELEC updates or a news roundup of COMELEC's week-long activities. Another is a Q&A portion

02:11with the public, election watchdogs, citizens' arm groups, and other stakeholders in participation.

02:18There will also be a Pilipino Nose segment which will feature trivia and facts about COMELEC and

02:23its history. There will also be discussions on voter education, especially on changes the public

02:30may encounter during the polls with the different systems providers supplying the automated counting

02:35machines. But all of this will center with transparency and earning the trust of voters.

02:41According to COMELEC, this program will be a big help for their preparation for next year's polls,

02:47especially since it is a super election year with the national and local elections to be conducted

02:53along with the first BARMM parliamentary elections and the Barangay and SK elections

02:58scheduled for December 2025. PTV vowed to COMELEC to share in the same goal of creating an informative

03:05or educational program.

03:07We need to bring all the news and events to our citizens correctly so that they will not get confused.

03:16We will fight fake news, we will fight trolls, we will fight the lies that are being spread

03:22in different kinds of media. What's important is that the citizens believe.

03:36we are going to be your partner against wrong information, we are going to be your partner against

03:45fake information.

03:46The program is expected to air on PTV on January 2025 along with the start of the election period.
