00:00Hi, I'm Theo with Manchester World and today I'm out in the streets of Manchester asking people about local journalism.
00:05Here at Manchester World we're all about wanting to do what you want to read and see.
00:09And so we figured today was a good day for us to come out and try and learn what sort of content people want to see from us.
00:15Whether it's popular content, food content, or basically stuff about knowing the city and knowing where to be.
00:21I tend to go for the ones where it's about popular TV shows that I watch.
00:26I like to know what's going on and hear what you think is going to happen.
00:31Or maybe events that are happening around Manchester or with friends and stuff.
00:38Yeah, I just want something local that's actually interesting for me.
00:41I just like seeing what's going on in the city, what to do this week, what exhibitions are on, what events are on.
00:49We both work in the underground music scene so we're very much focused on that.
00:54I think it's very politics heavy. I wouldn't look at something and think, oh, politics, I want to read that.
00:59I'd like it to be more local, more surrounding the areas and stuff.
01:03Yeah, I feel like that's hard to do.
01:05Yeah, maybe just be easier to read.
01:09I feel like it's lots of topics that older people would be interested in but nothing that I would be interested in.
01:15What's happening in your smaller venues and your grassroots venues that are actually struggling to exist so they deserve a price more than anything.
01:22We spend quite a lot on our phones and I think because there's certain algorithms and apps, you see the stuff that you're interested in.
01:28So I think that makes it more likely for me to want to understand it because it's probably based off something that I quite like.
01:35I think it's less like choosing a story based on clicks but choosing a story because it's good and then building that fan base that people would think that you're reliable.
01:45In terms of what events, maybe you're platforming or whatever.
01:49And I think it's kind of like building the brand in terms of you being a trustworthy site and not going for what's going to be viral.
01:55I get given a variety of content and I quite like that as well. I think social media offers that better than most news sources.
