00:00Authorities continue to arrest pekeng products such as cigarettes, which are harmful to health.
00:06More than one Filipino and four Chinese were arrested in raids against pekeng cigarettes in Valenzuela and San Rafael, Bulacan.
00:14Let's now hear from Bea Pinla.
00:19Thousands of boxes of pekeng cigarettes were confiscated by the police and officials of the Bureau of Internal Revenue in this warehouse in Valenzuela last night.
00:29This is just one of the warehouses they raided in the city where smugglers were found.
00:35Tax liabilities for pekeng cigarettes confiscated by the authorities in a factory in San Rafael, Bulacan and in three separate warehouses here in Valenzuela are up to Php 11 billion.
00:47Some of the boxes have tax stamps engraved in the old design.
00:52Others do not have tax stamps.
00:56This is considered an economic sabotage because of the magnitude of non-payment of taxes.
01:02Hopefully, we will be able to arrest and stop these kinds of activities.
01:06We are looking at who is really behind this operation.
01:11155 Filipinos and one Chinese employee were arrested in the factory of pekeng cigarettes that was raided in San Rafael, Bulacan.
01:20According to the BIR, the operation is dirty and messy.
01:25Aside from the messiness that we are looking at, we are seeing a lot of messiness because it's just on the beach.
01:30They don't have proper sanitation on how they are doing it.
01:35The facilities are very dirty.
01:38Three warehouses in Valenzuela were also found with pekeng cigarettes.
01:42Some do not have tax stamps while others have pekeng tax stamps.
01:47Three Chinese and one Filipino employee of the said warehouse were arrested here.
01:53Do you know that you're working for illegal operations here in the Philippines?
01:58You don't know sir?
02:00How long have you been working here?
02:02According to the police, they are contacting various government agencies to investigate the documents of the arrested.
02:11They have a Philippine driver's license.
02:15We are investigating them because they have a local address.
02:19We will verify this with the LTO.
02:21We have already coordinated with the Inter-Agency Committee Against Trafficking.
02:25We will send communications to the BI and request assistance for the disposition of foreigners.
02:34The police continues to track down those behind the illegal operation.
02:39We have already identified them and we are already in the process of tracking them down.
02:43We are looking for the lessees, the people who signed the contracts here.
02:48We will identify them.
02:51According to the BIR, the issue of tax stamps is a big problem.
02:55They plan to release a mechanism to let consumers know
02:59using their mobile phones if the products they are buying are fake or legitimate.
03:05Bea Pinlac reporting for GMA Integrated News.
03:09Let's update on the typhoon Marse that is expected to land on some parts of Northern Luzon.
03:15We will talk to Senior Weather Specialist Glyza Escoliar.
03:19Good morning and welcome to Balitang Hali.
03:23Good morning and good afternoon, Sir Rafi.
03:26Where is Marse at the moment?
03:29The last sighting of the typhoon Marse is at 115 km east of Apari, Cagayan.
03:37It is because of the strong winds of 175 km per hour.
03:41It is close to the middle and will reach to 215 km per hour.
03:46It is still slow to move west-north-westward at a speed of 10 km per hour.
03:52This is its peak intensity before it lands, 175 km per hour.
03:58We expect that by 2 to 5 p.m., it will reach the Maysanta Ana, Cagayan area.
04:06So that is its landfall area, Maysanta Ana?
04:09That is the projected landfall area.
04:12Even if it does not reach Maysanta Ana,
04:15the landfall will likely be here in Maybubuyan Islands by late afternoon or evening.
04:21Will the typhoon be stronger?
04:25The typhoon is 175 km per hour strong.
04:29But now, this is our estimated peak intensity before it lands.
04:34In the areas that are included in the Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4,
04:38how strong is the rain and wind that we can expect there?
04:43Here in Wind Signal No. 4, we are expecting
04:47that it will reach 118 to 184 km per hour
04:52for the northern portion of Cagayan,
04:56here in Maybubuyan Islands,
04:58the northern portion of Apayao,
05:00and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte.
05:03Meanwhile, the rain will reach intense to torrential.
05:06That will be a bit strong.
05:08That is why we are advising our countrymen there,
05:11if they are not evacuated,
05:13they should go to their neighbors
05:15whose houses are a bit high.
05:19You mentioned that the typhoon will run slowly.
05:22How long can you expect the typhoon to last in the north?
05:27We expect that, in general,
05:30the typhoon will have an effect in the northern part of Luzon
05:34until Friday morning.
05:37Thank you very much for the time you shared with us this afternoon.
05:42This is Senior Weather Specialist Glyza Escudiar.
