00:00Authorities continue to arrest pekeng products such as cigarettes, which are harmful to health.
00:06More than one Filipino and four Chinese were arrested in raids against pekeng cigarettes in Valenzuela and San Rafael, Bulacan.
00:14Let's hear from Bea Pinla.
00:19Thousands of boxes of pekeng cigarettes were confiscated by the police and officials of the Bureau of Internal Revenue in this warehouse in Valenzuela last night.
00:29This is just one of the warehouses they raided in the city where smugglers were found.
00:35Tax liabilities for pekeng cigarettes confiscated by the authorities in a factory in San Rafael, Bulacan and in three separate warehouses here in Valenzuela are up to Php 11 billion.
00:47Some of the boxes have tax stamps engraved in the old design and others do not have tax stamps.
00:56This is considered an economic sabotage because of the magnitude of non-payment of taxes.
01:02Hopefully, we will be able to arrest and stop these kinds of activities.
01:06We are looking at who is behind this operation.
01:11One hundred and fifty-five Filipinos and one Chinese employee were arrested in the factory of pekeng cigarettes raided in San Rafael, Bulacan.
01:20According to the BIR, the operation is dirty and messy.
01:25Aside from the messiness we are looking at, we can see a lot of messiness because it's just on the beach.
01:30They don't have proper sanitation on how they do it.
01:35The facilities are very dirty.
01:38Three warehouses in Valenzuela were also found with pekeng cigarettes.
01:42Some of them have no tax stamps while others have pekeng tax stamps.
01:47Three Chinese and one Filipino employee of the said warehouse were arrested here.
01:52Sir, do you know that you're working for illegal operations here in the Philippines?
01:57No.
01:58You don't know sir?
02:00How long have you been working here?
02:02According to the police, they are contacting various government agencies to investigate the documents of the arrested.
02:11They have Philippine driver's license and we are investigating them because they have local addresses.
02:19We will verify this with the LTO.
02:21We have already coordinated with the Inter-Agency Committee Against Trafficking.
02:26We will send communications to the BI and request assistance for the disposition of foreigners.
02:34The police continues to trace those behind the illegal operation.
02:39We have already identified them and we are already in the process of tracking them down.
02:43We are looking for the lessees, the people who signed the contracts here.
02:48We will identify them.
02:51According to the BIR, it is a serious problem to issue tax stamps.
02:55They plan to release a mechanism to let consumers know
02:59using their mobile phones if the products they are buying are fake or legitimate.
