00:00Liverpool is world-renowned for its impressive array of architectural styles and vast number
00:05of listed buildings. In fact, it lays claim to have more Georgian listed buildings than Bath.
00:10We're also a city famous for our skyline, dominated by the Three Graces. It's even said
00:16that some of those arriving by boat in the early 20th century believed they docked in New York. But
00:22what is your favourite building in the city? We've been on the streets of Liverpool to find out.
00:27I think my favourite building in Liverpool, out of all of them, and there's a lot to choose from,
00:32is the Town Hall, the bottom of Castle Street, or the top of Castle Street, depending which end
00:37you're at. My favourite building in Liverpool, I'm a Scouser born and bred, just wipe the accent,
00:43is the Libor buildings. I love the Libor buildings.
00:48I also love all of the buildings around the Georgian Quarter. Not necessarily one in
00:53particular, but there's a reason why there's a lot of filming goes on up there for period pieces
00:59and dramas, because they're just magnificent, and God knows how many listed buildings there are there.
01:07My favourite building is the Libor building at the Pier Head, because it's so iconic,
01:15it looks beautiful in the day, it looks lovely overnight, and inside it's just amazing.
01:22It's nice and reassuring to think that unlike a lot of developments taking place, good and bad,
01:26around the rest of Liverpool, that's stood unchanged, and hopefully, you know,
01:31such wood will stay unchanged for many generations to come.
01:35Europe's first skyscraper, the Royal Libor building, stands at 322 feet tall.
01:40Opened in 1911 as the headquarters of the Royal Libor Group, the building holds significant
01:45historical and cultural importance to the city, not least as adorning its towers are the mythical
01:50liverbirds said to protect the city and sailors coming in to port.
01:54Legend says that if they were ever to fly away, the city would cease to exist.
