00:00What a better way to celebrate Halloween than planning out a wedding.
00:03Here's your Spooky Spot on the Diamond Slack the Crow Eric Draven Mini Bust.
00:08The
00:32Crow is a tale of young musician Eric Draven, who along with his fiancée is murdered on
00:37the eve of their Halloween wedding.
00:38Exactly one year after their deaths, Eric is risen from the grave by a mysterious crow
00:42to seek out his killers and force them to answer for their crimes.
00:46This 1-6th scale mini bust of Eric Draven is based on his appearance in The Crow and
00:51is made of high quality resin and features detailed sculpting and paint applications.
00:55It is limited to 3,000 pieces worldwide and comes packaged with a numbered certificate
01:00of authenticity.
01:01It was designed by Cesar and sculpted by Rocco Taramella.
01:04Guess it's not a bad day to look at a good statue.
01:07Just before we get a closer look at the Crow mini bust, first I'd like to thank the folks
01:10over at Diamond Select.
01:11They were kind enough to provide this sample we could have a look at.
01:14Eric Draven is missing his lower half, but at least he has a better half, the crow, perched
01:18of course on his shoulder.
01:19Collectively, between the two, you're looking at the bust of Eric standing at about 9 inches
01:24in height, or roughly 23 centimeters tall.
01:27Joining us for this review is the spooky candle.
01:29Joining the release of this bust, a certificate of authenticity.
01:32This certificate on one side features, of course, the image of the bust that we're
01:35about to have a look at, though to the adjacent side is all the necessary 411 details that
01:39this is an authentic Diamond Select release of the Crow mini bust, sculpted again by Rocco
01:43Taramella and designed by Cesar.
01:45Of course, of the limited run of 3,000 only available worldwide, this happens to be 0664.
01:51It would have been perfect if it was 0666.
01:54Of course, I always do like to hold on to these.
01:55One thing I do mention when it comes to looking at any statues on this channel is if you ever
01:59decide to want to put this on display, let's say, for example, we just line it up to the
02:03thumbs of Eric Draven so Eric can kind of hold his own card.
02:06I don't know if necessarily I would say put this anywhere near a sunlight source.
02:10I actually had a couple of these near a close window, and unfortunately, though, the window
02:14had bleached the card.
02:16So if you are that one that likes to have these displayed on the shelf along with your
02:20statues, just put them away from a window because, again, you don't want these to be
02:23bleached out.
02:24Moving now off to the side, though, and getting a closer look at Eric Draven.
02:27Again, we are kind of missing his lower half.
02:29I did make mention earlier, of course, his better half being the crow.
02:32Obviously, his better half would be Shelley.
02:34Shelley's not around for this review, but the crow at least is.
02:37The crow is perched on top of his shoulder.
02:40The one thing you will want to be careful, though, is when you're removing the crow from
02:42the styrofoam prison is that the crow doesn't seem to be wrapped up at all.
02:48Eric Draven, sure enough, was wrapped in cling film, but the crow wasn't.
02:52So when you are removing it, make sure, though, that the individual feathers so talentedly
02:55sculpted by Rocco don't actually clip the inside interior of the styrofoam tray because
03:00you don't want any of these feathers to break.
03:02The crow is nicely detailed, as you can see.
03:05Is shrieking.
03:06That's actually...
03:07That wasn't the crow.
03:08That was my own.
03:09That was on my own mouth.
03:10But you can see they've colored the inside of the crow mouth, as you can see, in pink.
03:13Looks really nice.
03:14The crow does look good, and I think they've done a really nice job on it.
03:17I'm glad as well that the crow does have some action with it.
03:20It's not just a case that it's got a relaxed pair of wings.
03:23And it looks like the crow is ready to fly off the shoulders of Eric.
03:26So that's really a nice touch.
03:27Before, in fact, actually we look at Eric, one thing I did want to talk a little bit
03:31about is the fact that this is a minibus.
03:33And with minibus, usually what they do with Diamond Select, and I'm really glad that they
03:36do this, is that they take, of course, the source material, this, of course, being the
03:40crow, and then they find a base that suits that subject.
03:45So in this case, we actually get ourselves the balcony apartment of Eric Draven and Shelley.
03:49I don't know if you can actually see this as well.
03:51This is the cracked window, but it's cracked in the shape of a crow.
03:54Really, really cool stuff.
03:55They've brushed, of course, across this some kind of grayish blue, just to add a little
03:59bit of detail to that.
04:00If we carefully tilt this upside down, you can see that on the corners, they've added
04:05felt feet, not only prevent scratching on surfaces, but something I also mentioned as
04:09well when we look at these statues, I feel it also is an aid to prevent the number from
04:13wearing away.
04:14Because keep in mind, of course, if you're putting it on a surface, and say you start
04:16to slide this thing around, it may, in the process, also wear off that number.
04:21You don't want that number to start to disappear on you.
04:23As for the Eric Draven himself, I like the face sculpt.
04:26Would I say it looks a lot like Eric Draven?
04:29Subjective.
04:30I would feel like on certain angles, it does.
04:32If you look at it from the side, I think it looks a little bit more, though, like Brandon
04:35Lee, the late Brandon Lee.
04:38For a tradition of mine, at least in my own house, I always like to watch the crow on
04:41Halloween night, or even the night before Halloween night was always the perfect time
04:45to watch the crow.
04:46With all the subsequent other things that I was watching sequel-wise for Halloween, usually
04:50the crow, unfortunately, just sort of took a backburn.
04:52I want to really kind of start this year going back to the tradition of watching the crow,
04:55because it is one of my favorite, not only action movies, top 10 easily favorite films
05:00of all time, but it certainly was, for a while, one of my favorite Halloween movies to watch.
05:04Now, again, like when you're looking at it from the side, I think it looks pretty good.
05:07I think the paint they've done is nicely done here.
05:09So it looks, doesn't look as much like it's been painted by a brush.
05:13It looks very similar to the way that Eric would have applied the makeup in the movie,
05:17almost like he just brushed and wiped it on there.
05:20So there are a few little areas where you can see a bit of the skin kind of bleeding
05:23through the white.
05:24I really like the way that they've painted this.
05:27Of course, you've got the lines there around the outer darkened areas of his eyes.
05:31You got, again, the lipstick that he's painted on there as well.
05:33I like that the paint on the lipstick and the eyes have a bit of a sheen to it.
05:37That's, again, like that's a perfect profile right there.
05:40The teeth nicely sculpted there as well.
05:42No complaints at all.
05:43Again, I feel like it probably could have been a little bit more of a likeness to Brandon
05:46Lee, but it's pretty close.
05:47It's one of the better ones we've gotten from statues.
05:50Of course, you've got the longer hair there on the sides.
05:52The hair itself have a few little areas that would be a little bit more worrisome, but
05:55luckily this thing was packed very carefully inside of its packaging.
05:58When I received this, the little hairs, as you can see, could be subjected to breakage,
06:02of course, being the fact that this is carefully cast in resin and very meticulously hand-painted.
06:08One of the nice little touches of detail is the fact they still have the Shelley ring
06:11on there as well.
06:12Of course, he's got all the rips and tears that he develops over the time of having the
06:15suit on taped up down below here in his abdomen.
06:18He's got, of course, the long jacket.
06:19The jacket isn't so long, obviously, because, I mean, it's meeting in the middle.
06:23You only get really just the straps of the jacket draping down the back.
06:26All the rest of the tail of the jacket for his trench coat has completely disappeared.
06:30The jacket is nicely done.
06:31I feel like maybe they could have added a little bit more of a wet look to the jacket.
06:34So, I mean, from the front, it does have a bit of a sheen.
06:37On the back, though, like I said, maybe it's just a few little drops of little beads of
06:40water or something like that.
06:42I don't know if that's something that they would ever consider, but I think that would
06:44kind of be fun if they would find a way to add like little droplets of water on there
06:47so it looks like the crow's jacket is soaking wet.
06:50All in all, though, it's a nice looking, obviously, it's a nice looking bust.
06:53The bust itself being made of resin, you just will want to be really careful when taking
06:57this thing out of packaging.
06:58Not only do you really have to worry about Eric Draven and the hopes of his survival
07:02throughout the course of the movie, but, of course, the whole survival of him existing
07:05in the movie is due to the crow.
07:07You wouldn't want to really have these wings clipped.
07:09The wings on the crow and the crow as a whole looks really good on this release, and I'm
07:12glad that they had the chance to have a look at this.
07:15Whether during the spooky season or not, I mean, I don't think crow necessarily is
07:18one that has to be relegated during a hallow season if it's one that you like to watch
07:22all year round.
07:23And, you know, again, like I used to watch the crow quite regularly, always the night
07:27before Halloween or sometimes even Halloween night, and it's been, I don't know, like at
07:31least the last couple of years, it's just been dismissed altogether in favor of other
07:35Halloween movies.
07:36I need to really go back to the idea of watching the crow.
07:38Not only, again, one of my favorite Halloween traditions at one point, but one of my all-time
07:43favorite movies as well.
07:44This one, I think, has done a service not only to Eric Draven, but also as well to fans
07:48of the crow.
07:49Even though, again, we're not getting the complete Eric Draven, we're only getting the
07:52top half of him.
07:53The top half, though, is just as sculpted if the figure was completely whole.
07:57Speaking of the crow and scary, yours truly decided to finally get around to watching
08:01the crow remake to see if it was as bad as everybody said it was.
08:04I can't say that it was a terrible movie.
08:06It's one that I would honestly go back and rewatch again to maybe see if I like it a
08:10little bit more.
08:11I can't say that same thing about going and rewatching the fourth outing starring Edward
08:14Furlong.
08:15That movie is garbage.
08:17One thing I would say, though, is faulting the remake film is that the writers and the
08:21studio felt the need to reuse the names of the Eric Draven and Shelley.
08:25Right away, I feel that that was a nail on the coffin.
08:27You can tell a new story of the crow with brand new characters and a brand new environment.
08:31The story of revenge and love will always still be true when it comes to the crow franchise,
08:36but it didn't need to come at the expense of the OG characters.
08:39I mean, Bill Skarsgård was a fine Eric, but he's nowhere near the levels of Brandon Lee.
08:44You can't.
08:45That's a tall leather jacket to fill, and you'll never beat the classic.
08:49The original crow film is still one of my all time favorite films, top five easily.
08:53And even though it has taken a sideburner, sidelined for all the other Halloween movies
08:58that I tend to watch during the Hallows season, perhaps now seeing how good Diamond has given
09:02a tribute to Brandon Lee here and Eric Draven might now remind me it's prime time to go
09:07back and have that as a Halloween classic again where I watch the original.
09:11Maybe even the second one.
09:12The first and the second crows are still superior films, and it sort of took a downward spiral.
09:18The third is okay.
09:19The fourth is terrible, though.
09:20What's your favorite crow film?
09:21Do I even really need to ask?
09:23Let me know down below in the comments section.
09:24It's probably just going to be the original one.
09:26Although again, like the second one, City of Angels is a fine film.
09:29It's not the original, but it's still a good sequel.
09:33Big thank you once again to the folks over at Diamond Select that did provide the sample
09:35of the brand new Crow Eric Draven mini bust.
09:38I mean, for the top half of what we get from Eric Draven, it's a nicely sculpted piece.
09:42Once again, from the very talented artist behind the scenes, Rocco Tartamello.
09:46And of course, we also got as well a really neat looking perched crow that's on the shoulder
09:50of Eric.
09:51Careful, though, when removing the statue out of its styrofoam tray as carefully as
09:55this may have been packaged by Diamond.
09:57You don't want to quickly be removing this.
09:59You really only quickly removing any resin bust out of their styrofoam trays just for
10:03the risk that something stays behind.
10:04And probably what it would have stayed behind was one of the wings from the crow.
10:08All in all, though, a nice looking piece, well painted, like I said, and also adding
10:11the additional balcony apartment is one way that they've also incorporated some of the
10:15elements from the film.
10:17Head to toe, or I guess head to balcony, it's one of the best crow statues we've gotten
10:21from Diamond Select.
10:22If you guys did enjoy this video, do it a solid, throw it a like.
10:25You guys want to stick around for more, so I hope so.
10:27Even though we are wrapping up things right now for the original Eric Draven, the best,
10:31you'll never beat the classic.
10:33We are going to have a couple of more spooky spots coming your way during the rest, at
10:36least of Spottober, before we wrap up the remainder of this month.
10:40So make sure, of course, you're keeping your ghoulish peepers peeled to this channel.
10:43And as always, thanks for watching.
10:45See you guys next time.
