00:00Listen to me, we don't want to kill any of you, but trust me, we will.
00:07Wake him up a little!

00:31Lara Tomb Raids Again
00:33We can be partners.
00:35You might try to kill me.
00:36I'm not going to kill you.
00:37I said you'd try.
00:39Lara Croft is continuing her comeback tour to reclaim her title as the original Tomb Raider.
00:44Alongside remasters of her classic PS1 adventures, as well as a Netflix anime adaptation,
00:50Lara Croft will be returning to live action for the first time since the Alicia Vikander-led film in 2018.
00:56Led by showrunner Phoebe Waller-Bridge, whose previous efforts include her Amazon series Fleabag
01:01and the woefully disappointing conclusion to Indiana Jones' saga Dial of Destiny,
01:06it would seem that after a few delays, the series is finally entering pre-production.
01:11Both Sophia Turner of Game of Thrones and Lucy Boynton of Bohemian Rhapsody
01:15have reportedly screen-tested to bring the iconic hero to life alongside Vikander and Angelina Jolie.
01:22Not much else is known about the series so far, but we'd wager a guess it'll no doubt involve a globetrotting adventure
01:28full of danger chasing down a mysterious and ancient relic.
01:32Or the whole series could be about locking the poor butler Winston in the freezer.
01:36With no clear release date for the series, all we can do is wait and see.
01:40Can you save the universe?
01:41Absolutely.
01:42Nintendo Music
01:44Everyone knows Nintendo is lawsuit and copyright happy when it comes to their games.
01:49But they also have a tendency to strike down fans attempting to share their catalog of iconic music.
01:55Well, now Nintendo fans no longer need to worry about the gaze of Nintendo to enjoy some of their favorite Nintendo music.
02:02Nintendo shadow-dropped their own app for iOS and Android simply titled Nintendo Music
02:08and features a variety of fan-favorite tracks from games such as Animal Crossing, Legend of Zelda,
02:13and more with additional tracks planned for future updates.
02:17Audiophiles can build their own playlists based on mood, characters, or favorite moments from specific games,
02:23and will also be able to download their music to listen offline and can even play their favorites on a loop.
02:29All this comes at a cost, however, as anyone who wants to relive these incredible music moments
02:34will need a Nintendo Switch Online membership to access the app.
02:38Because of course there was no way Nintendo was going to give this all away for free!
02:42They've got a team of lawyers on standby they need to pay for!
02:45Firewalk flames out.
02:47Being really old and almost dying a bunch doesn't count as research.
02:51Almost dying is the best way to learn how not to die.
02:53In a move that everyone saw coming,
02:56PlayStation formally announced the closure of Firewalk Studios
02:59after delisting and taking their live-shooter Concord offline after barely two weeks.
03:05After the shooter failed to make an impact in an already overcrowded market,
03:10Sony pulled the game from both digital and physical sale and offered customers full refunds.
03:15While Sony originally stated they were exploring options for the game,
03:19given the abysmal player count, not even going free-to-play could have saved the shooter that was doomed from the start.
03:26Reportedly, Sony acquired Firewalk during the development of Concord for roughly $200 million
03:32and then plugged an additional $200 million into the game to get it over the finish line.
03:37While this has yet to be confirmed, Concord reportedly only sold 25,000 copies total,
03:44making the game and acquisition a total financial loss for Sony.
03:48Sony was already facing quite a lot of resistance for their push into the live-service market,
03:53and after Concord's tepid release, Sony has since scaled back their ambitions,
03:58with the likes of Fair Games and Marathon apparently still moving forward.
04:03Perhaps we should have let go also.
04:04One-off? Do not dare!
04:06Well, we were supposed to stick together.
04:07If you let go, I swear I won't.
04:10Voice actors empowered.
04:12Well, I don't recognize that dour expression anywhere.
04:16The rise of AI has become a major concern in all industries,
04:20but particularly in movies, television, and especially video game development.
04:25With numerous actors' voices being recreated by fans, steps needed to be taken to protect the industry
04:31and its actors who bring some of our favorite characters to life.
04:35SAG-AFTRA announced a legal agreement with AI voice company Ethovox
04:39to protect voice actors' livelihood and future projects amidst the rise of AI voice generation.
04:45Actors who sign up for the program will only have their voice used as a model for the program
04:50and will be compensated with ongoing payments for the duration of their use.
04:54While actors will still need to consent to their voices being used for the program,
04:58this is only a small step in the right direction to ensure the artists are protected from countless AI programs.
05:05Shame we're not on the same side.
05:07I am a man of fortune, and I must seek my fortune.
05:12Nuketown returns.
05:21Nuketown has been a staple of the Call of Duty franchise for over a decade now,
05:25making its first appearance in Call of Duty Black Ops way back in 2010.
05:30Since then, fans of the claustrophobic map have seen numerous incarnations over the years,
05:35and Activision and Treyarch have announced the return of the classic map as well as the addition of Infected Mode.
05:41Nuketown will mostly retain everything fans love about the classic map,
05:45albeit with some 90s aesthetic touches to match the time period of the campaign.
05:50Infected Mode will likely function much like previous iterations,
05:53in which one player is infected and the uninfected attempting to survive the mounting number of zombies before the timer runs out.
06:00Activision also announced that the Call of Duty series has sold 500 million copies in its entirety since the series debuted back in 2003,
06:09and remains the undisputed juggernaut of the FPS genre 20 years later.
06:14Built with care.
06:15Blown up with flair.
06:19Another blow to video game preservation.
06:21Even though video games have been part of the mainstream and cultural zeitgeist for almost 40 years,
06:27these works of art have yet to be recognized in the same way films, television programs, and music are.
06:33With roughly 87% of video games released before 2010 either going out of print or simply being completely lost to time,
06:41many fans have dedicated themselves to preserving this rich history,
06:45but continuously run into roadblocks in this most noble of causes.
06:49In yet another blow to this desire to save gaming history,
06:52after a three year long battle,
06:54the US Copyright Office has struck down a proposal to allow libraries to share out of print games,
07:00similar to the way library books or films used to be rented.
07:03Their reasoning?
07:04There was no way to guarantee there wouldn't be a, quote,
07:12Proving yet again that those in charge still don't truly understand video games or their value as art alongside films and literature.
07:19The Video Game History Foundation has vowed to continue to fight for video game preservation,
07:24and expressed their disappointment of what they called a, quote,
07:27With countless titles from Nintendo, Sony, and even Microsoft becoming unplayable every year,
07:34as well as these companies continuing to strike down emulators,
07:38hundreds, if not thousands of games are at risk of being completely lost to time or forgotten.
07:44The saga is complete.
07:46Well, here we are. Not too shabby, huh?
07:50After shuttering the Wii U and 3DS games,
07:54After shuttering the Wii U and 3DS online store,
07:58Nintendo has been doing a fairly decent job of updating many classic titles from those consoles and porting them to the Switch.
08:05The latest update is Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition,
08:09which brings the entire Xenoblade saga to Switch for players to experience in its entirety.
08:14While not officially part of the Xenoblade Trilogy,
08:16Chronicles X is considered a standalone adventure that takes place within the same universe.
08:21The Definitive version adds updated visuals as well as additional story elements not available in the initial release.
08:28Along with Xenoblade Chronicles X,
08:30Nintendo has also ported Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze,
08:33New Super Mario Bros. U,
08:35and Pikmin 3 among others that were once exclusive to the failed Wii U,
08:39giving these games a second chance to find an audience on a vastly more successful console.
08:45Fancy seeing you here.
