Abortion is on the ballot in FloridaOriginal
Transcript
00:00Abortion is on the ballot in Florida. As well as voting for president on
00:04November 5th, the Sunshine State will also vote on reproductive rights with
00:08Amendment 4. This is a Florida-specific ballot measure that would limit
00:11government interference with abortion at a time when the procedure is banned
00:15after six weeks. That's before most women know they're pregnant. Proponents say it's
00:20simply about Floridians' freedom to make their own health care decisions while
00:24maintaining the parental rights that are already in Florida's Constitution.
00:27Governor Ron DeSantis opposes the measure and threatened to prosecute TV
00:32stations running pro-amendment ads. But a federal court ruled these efforts
00:37trampled on free speech rights and issued a restraining order on these
00:40attempts by the anti-abortion lobby. Supporters of the amendment say it's not
00:45a partisan issue and it's just about voters having the right to determine
00:48their own medical decisions. At least 60% of the people need to vote yes for the
00:53measure to pass.
