00:00Florida's House just approved a bill that bans abortions after six weeks, and now it's headed
00:04to Governor Ron DeSantis' desk. The bill was already passed in the Florida Senate, and DeSantis
00:09has long vowed to sign any six-week abortion ban into law if and when it came across his desk. The
00:15new law will be stricter than the one currently in place, which already outlaws abortions after 15
00:20weeks. The new bill does make exceptions in cases of rape, incest, and when the mother's life is at
00:25risk, but only in specific scenarios and when strict conditions are met. The proposed law will
00:30only let physicians provide abortion services, and those who do not follow the new regulations
00:35could be charged with a third-degree felony. The bill also indicates that all abortions must be
00:40performed in person, meaning medicated abortions via pill prescriptions will no longer be allowed.
00:45Those who oppose the bill argue that the new law is essentially a near-total abortion ban
00:49and will disproportionately and negatively impact lower-income women in the state.
