00:00Doomgate is a series of dark comedy twist in the tale stories all set on the same street
00:05so it's very sort of inside number nine league of gentlemen. It's the tales that you expected
00:12set in a fictional town in Northumberland called Mould on the Wall where the characters are some
00:17you might recognize from day-to-day life some are quite quirky but all of them are full of
00:22surprises. Yeah it's kind of heightened reality you know so it's a kind of twist in the tale
00:28stories and like Hannah said dark comedy funny a little bit eerie but all entertaining.
00:35So I thought of the concept ages ago like nine years ago in my first year of uni
00:40because I'd written a little short play about nosy neighbours which is actually one of them
00:43that you'll see tonight and one of my friends wrote another play that was a dark comedy play
00:48and we didn't end up collaborating in the end but I was thinking oh I wonder if your play and
00:52my play could be sat on the same street and also Doomgate is a real street and it's found
00:58in Applebeam Cumbria but it's definitely not based on other people there no definitely not
01:04definitely not but I was told when I was at school because I used to walk up and down the street was
01:09where the convicts would walk down before they got hung on Fair Hill. We're very lucky to have
01:14us on here at Laurels which is a perfect venue for this show because as you'll see the audience
01:20are right there and with the cast you know and there's no stage kind of thing so and it's perfect
01:26for that kind of intimate literally inside someone's living room. So I think it's great to
01:30have venues like this in places like Whitley Bay, North Shales you know quite places where you might
01:36not expect things like this just to make like Hannah says to make theatre less scary kind of
01:42thing just a place for a night out for anybody yeah you can see it down the world. Absolutely
01:47Whitley Bay welcome, it's Halloween. Go on the website or tickets on the door
01:52and we'd really love to have you along one for the support for a new theatre company but also because
01:57it's really funny.
