00:00Exclusive coverage of GMA Integrated News, U.N. Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohamed
00:06about 17 Sustainable Development Goals or SDG.
00:10Although the Philippines is one of the countries with the lowest SDG score,
00:14it is not impossible for the country to reach the targets.
00:17This is the first news of Pia Arcangel.
00:23In 2015, the United Nations allocated 17 Sustainable Development Goals or SDG.
00:30These include Zero Hunger, Gender Equality, Quality Education, Climate Protection, and others.
00:36The Philippines is the 72nd out of 167 countries when it comes to SDG score,
00:43one of the lowest in ASEAN.
00:46In the exclusive coverage of GMA Integrated News, U.N. Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohamed
00:51who is in the Philippines for the International Conference on Women, Peace, and Security,
00:56he said that the Philippines is not alone in the difficulty of reaching the SDG.
01:00He said this is due to the COVID pandemic and other factors such as the climate crisis and war in Ukraine.
01:08The world is not doing well.
01:09It's not just the Philippines.
01:10We have a terrible score of 17% of the SDGs globally.
01:15What has really constrained countries for not achieving the SDGs has been the international finance.
01:22I see the potential for the Philippines to do much better,
01:25but it needs also the support of the international community.
01:28Mohamed believes that it is not impossible for the Philippines to reach the SDGs.
01:34I'm very optimistic that you will go far.
01:36There are a number of challenges that you have ahead.
01:39Reforms have to be owned and they have to be consolidated upon.
01:44It's important that we look at all the communities.
01:46This year, the United Nations celebrated the 77th anniversary of the establishment of the UN.
01:52Although many still believe in its ability and capacity,
01:56there are countries questioning its effectiveness.
02:00But for the UN, the importance of their organization remains.
02:04Multilateralism still works.
02:06And it's still very important to our global family being able to have a voice for their concerns,
02:15for the opportunities, for the challenges.
02:17A space where there is a light on all issues.
02:20Without us having that space to continue to try to do that, it would be much worse.
02:25This is the first news.
02:26Pia Arcangel for GMA Integrated News.
