The finalists for this years Heart of the Community Award have been announced so we caught up with the Chair of North Tyneside Business Forum and the wonderful businesses who have been nominated this year.
Transcript
00:00This is my favourite award and I say this every year, it's because the public actually vote for the winner of this award.
00:06They vote leading up to it and they vote on the night.
00:09And there are three fantastic finalists that we have on this category and it's probably the best award of the evening.
00:14We are the Willow Chippy, which is a family run business.
00:18We've got three shops now based in Wallsend, Walkergate and the new one in Highheaton.
00:23We do a load of things to help the community, we try our best.
00:26We've done a load of fundraisers, we've got two defibrillators outside two of the shops which has been great, they've been used.
00:33We always supply food for the homeless, we work well with a charity who do it every year for Christmas.
00:39We'll send as many meals as we can, we'll meet up with them, clothes as well.
00:44We like to look after our customers, we know them all by first names, what the orders are.
00:48I think if you look after the community, they'll look after you.
00:51My business is I Love North Shields, it's a magazine we make every month.
00:56It is a community driven publication, so it's made by and for the people of North Shields.
01:03We all get together to create a magazine each month.
01:06It means that there's all people that normally don't even know each other, work together to create a magazine.
01:14So we've got people from all walks of life and we also include all the people that are not online.
01:19So we've got a lot of elderly people in North Shields as well that are not on social media for instance.
01:24So this gives them insight into what's happening in North Shields.
01:28Hello, my name is Amanda and I'm from the North East Nipple Project.
01:32I work with another lady called Megan and we give back the gift of confidence through areola tattooing.
01:38So we offer complimentally realistic tattooing for those who have undergone breast surgery due to breast cancer.
01:46So we give up our time each month to give back as much confidence as we can.
01:51And also to create awareness to anyone else who needs the service.
01:56It means that the more people can benefit from the service.
