00:43Made Smarter and the reason why you're getting involved with the awards.
00:50Well we're really proud to be the co-sponsor. Made Smarter helps manufacturing businesses adopt digital technology.
00:57So this is a perfect place and we're so proud to be part of it.
01:02And some of the businesses that you've supported are in the room
01:08tonight that's a good sign for you and for them I think.
01:12It's fantastic to see. Hopefully we'll get to meet them in the next little programme.
01:18So I'm here with Samantha Busalo of Horizon Works, one of the sponsors of the event.
01:23Sam, tell us quickly about Horizon Works and why you're supporting the manufacturing sector in the region.
01:31Horizon Works is a specialist small tech agency.
01:35Our key focus is manufacturing and engineering for the industrial business.
01:40And it's really important for us to be part of the sector, to champion the sector.
01:45And tonight is a good reason to celebrate the brilliant companies that make up the region
01:51and the custom of manufacturing and engineering.
01:54There's an array of different angles and perspectives.
01:57We're so proud to be part of that landscape and to work with so many exciting businesses.
02:03And of course, people that we sponsor, which is Manufacturing of the Year,
02:08under £25 million, I'm really looking forward to witnessing that.
02:12It's going to be a hard competition because there's so many good manufacturing and engineering businesses in the region.
02:19Thank you Sam.
02:21So Dawn Hungrove of Mate UK, one of our judges.
02:25What's your assessment of this year's nominees and shortlisted?
02:30I'm really thrilled to see some exciting companies this year.
02:33They've all been super talented, super eager.
02:37And I think a really good representation of the businesses that are based in the north-east of England at this time.
02:44The sector is thriving at the moment, you say. There are some challenges, of course.
02:48There's an awful lot of challenges for the businesses this year.
02:52We've got various things affecting businesses.
02:56But to see them rising against those challenges and coming out and putting their companies up for awards
03:04is just a real testament to how good the north-east is.
03:07Absolutely. We're looking forward to a good night, aren't we?
03:09Absolutely. It's going to be absolutely brilliant. It is every year.
03:12Thank you Dawn.
03:14So I'm here with Michael Tyman of Filtronic.
03:20You won the Manufacturing of the Year, over £25 million.
03:24What does it feel like to win the award?
03:26Absolutely delighted. It's been a really interesting last two years.
03:29We've invested a lot of money in the business.
03:31We've been growing our headcount and delivering revenue growth.
03:35To be recognised for that achievement in the north-east is absolutely delighted.
03:40We're passionate about the area that we operate in.
03:43We've got a lot of innovative technology.
03:46The growth has really come from SpaceX, who are one of the world's most innovative companies.
03:52But they've come to a small group in the north-east of England for support.
03:56The contract you won with SpaceX and with the European Space Agency has really driven the growth of the business.
04:03There's more of that to come, I'm sure.
04:04I hope so, yes. We've certainly got a lot of opportunity.
04:08Not only within SpaceX and ESA, but other opportunities within the overall market.
04:13We're developing technology which is appropriate for the wider market as well.
04:17But we also have opportunities within the defence market.
04:21There's a lot of emphasis on software capability at the moment.
04:24We've won a couple of contracts with BAE Kinetic.
04:28We hope that we'll be further successful.
04:31Positive 2025?
04:34Absolutely.
04:35Great. Congratulations again.
04:37Thanks, Michael.
04:38I'm here with two-time winner of the Maiden Awards, Petard's Rail.
04:44Congratulations. What does it mean to win two awards tonight?
04:48Absolutely delighted.
04:49For the people, like Dave said, of Aberdeen, it's just a testament to the hard work that we've done over the last two years.
04:56So, absolutely delighted.
04:57You've won the awards for some of the great innovative stuff that you've got.
05:02Some new products on the market.
05:04In digital technology.
05:07Can you tell us something about them?
05:09Absolutely.
05:10That's one of the challenges we face at Petard's Rail.
05:12Because we're servicing legacy equipment from 10, 15, 20 years ago.
05:17But we also have to keep our foot well and firmly in the AI camp.
05:21Talking to rail operators about the future of technology.
05:24That's what we're very proud of.
05:25Absolutely.
05:26You're going forward for two awards made in the UK.
05:30I hope you're going to be there and proudly representing the North East.
05:34Yeah, very excited about that.
05:36Passing innovation with them.
05:38Awards to win as well.
05:39Innovation.
05:40Sustainable.
05:41Great, great.
05:43Absolutely.
05:44Well, congratulations again.
05:45We look forward to seeing you in Liverpool.
