00:05disaster response to the point of mastery at the professional and scientific level.

00:10Thus, it came as no surprise how the OCD and BFP rescue teams simply crushed the competition

00:17in a recent international contest and disaster response held in Pakistan.

00:22Philippine Information Agency Eastern Visayas' Rayyan Arinto has the report.

00:26The Philippines' unique geographical location exposes it to a range of natural disasters

00:33including earthquakes, typhoons, volcanic eruptions, floods, and landslides.

00:39As the frequency and severity of these events increase, the demand for skilled emergency

00:44response teams has never been more critical. The Office of Civil Defense and the Bureau of Fire

00:50Protection's Special Rescue Forces from the Eastern Visayas and Bicol regions recently

00:55showcased their expertise at the International Rescue Challenge 2024 in Lahore, Pakistan.

01:01The Philippine team engaged in various simulated emergency scenarios demonstrating their skills

01:07in search and rescue and emergency management. Jonathan Calvara, Technical Consultant for the

01:13Office of Civil Defense, highlighted that this event was more than just competition.

01:18It was a vital platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration among rescue professionals,

01:23government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders.

01:53During the International Rescue Challenge, the team secured impressive achievements.

01:59First runner-up in the confined space extrication, first runner-up in the

02:04fire fitness challenge, and overall first runner-up for the entire event.

02:09OCD Regional Director Lord Bayron Tonicarion added that the event fostered mutual learning

02:14and cooperation in emergency response across borders. The Philippine rescue team's success

02:20at the International Rescue Challenge underscores the dedication and commitment of its members
