A discussion to enhance the regulation of short-term rental accommodations (STRA) across Malaysia will be held between the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry and state authorities to address issues relating to the sector, says Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

The Tourism Minister said the initiative is aimed at fortifying the tourism accommodation ecosystem, adding that the oversight of tourism accommodation premises falls under the jurisdiction of the respective state governments.

00:04First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to Mr. Ali,

00:11on the issue of housing.
00:15Short-term or long-term housing.
00:21As I have informed in the previous hearing,
00:28the primary areas of housing and tourism
00:33are under the authority of the state government,
00:37which is supported by the authorities of the State Government
00:43in their respective states.
00:46Therefore, in order to ensure that the entire primary ecosystem
00:52of housing and tourism is strengthened,
00:57MOTEC will discuss with the State Government,
01:02the KPKT, and the PPT on the purchase of licenses
01:08and certificates for short-term or long-term housing.
01:15In terms of tourism agencies,
01:19online travel agents, OTAs,
01:25MOTEC, through the assistance of licensing applications,
01:30licensing agreements, and licensing agencies,
01:35the KPKT has drawn up the terms and conditions
01:46for the application for the Taupedi License.
01:49Under Article 1992, Article 482,
01:56the KPKT is applicable for OTAs registered and operating in Malaysia.
02:02At the same time, MOTEC is studying the best way
02:07to monitor foreign OTAs.
