00:00Puerto Princesa City is now ready for the 2024 International Canoe Federation Dragon Boat World Championship.

00:06This is Orlan Habagat of the Philippine Information Agency for Balitang Pambansa.

00:13The City Baywalk of the 2024 International Canoe Federation Dragon Boat World Championship

00:19was better organized by the government of Puerto Princesa

00:24which will be held from October 28 to November 4.

00:28This is now one of the biggest sports events that will be held in the city this year.

00:32The City Baywalk was installed by the bleachers to better monitor the visitors who attended the event.

00:39In our last talk with Coach Len, we are already at 80%.

00:44The only thing that we haven't spread yet are the things that we will spread in the sea,

00:49which is maybe due to the bad weather, it hasn't been spread yet.

00:52But the equipment is already there, the technical people who will install it are already there.

00:58They are used to spread it because they always do it whenever there is an event.

01:04According to the Philippine Canoe and Dragon Boat Federation,

01:07more than 26 countries will be confirmed to participate in this event.

01:13The small vendors in the City Baywalk are hoping that this activity will help their business

01:20particularly in their income.

01:22Aside from the World Dragon Boat Championship,

01:24there will be another big sports event that will be held in the city before the end of 2024.

01:30There is another event that will be held in Bimpiaga,

01:33but it will be the biggest.

01:35This is Batang Pinoy.

01:37The number of registrants is already 13,500 athletes.

01:43They are just athletes.

01:45There are no 1,000 plus technical officials yet.

01:48Mayor Lucilo Bayron said that not only ecotourism will be implemented by the city government,

01:54but also sports tourism will be included.

01:58Before, we only focused on ecotourism.

02:03Now, we will not be able to live with just ecotourism.

02:08So now, we are not just focused on ecotourism anymore.

02:13We will focus on sports tourism.

02:15Although Puerto Princesa is already known for its underground river,

02:19which is one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature,

02:22the city government wants to recognize Puerto Princesa

02:26as the sports tourism capital of the Philippines

02:29from the Philippine Information Agency, Palawan or Lanjabagat

02:34for Balitang Pambansa.
