00:00In County Durham, Beamish Museum have all sorts of events taking place across the half term holidays.
00:06I caught up with Helen Barker who told me more about this.
00:09So we've got loads going on this half term. We've been inspired by the 40th anniversary of the miners' strikes
00:15and the role that women played in the strike and we've worked with National Women Against Pit Closures
00:19to put on this wonderful exhibition of the banners in the hall.
00:22We've also worked with East Durham Artists Network who've been inspired by the women of the Durham Coalfield
00:27to display their shifted exhibition. So people can come and have a look at this.
00:30We've got family activities happening around the theme of protect and what is worth protecting today.
00:35We've got a march going on at 2.30 every day that people can take part in, come make loads of noise.
00:40We've got suffragette rallies in the town. So we're really thinking about all the women through history
00:45who've really kind of stood up and had their voices heard and had something to say.
00:49So we want people to come along, have a little think about what's going on in the world today,
00:53be inspired by some of the stories that they might hear and then take part and raise their voices too.
00:59So for younger children, they can obviously come and take part. We've got some lovely kind of artist led activities in here.
01:04So drawing, we've got a bit of music happening as well. We've got singing in the chapel most days at about half past 11.
01:10You can come and hear the story of Annie Errington who was a miner's wife from Sackreston
01:14and hear about the role that she played and some of the trips to Soviet Russia that she made.
01:19We've got the suffragette rally so everyone can come and have a good shout and shout out votes for women.
01:24So we've also got the Halloween evenings this week as well. So we've still got tickets left for Monday and Tuesday.
01:29It's a family friendly event. So there's loads of stuff. There's the bubblologists.
01:33We've got scary creatures to come and have a little look at as well. Lots of family friendly crafts as well.
01:38Music going on. We've got the samba band coming in as well. So get your best Halloween outfits on and come along.

01:46As you can see, Beamish Museum have tons to keep you busy over the half term week,
01:50especially with their work with National Women Against Pick Closures.
01:55If you're looking to pumpkin pick, however, Brock Bushes in Northumberland is a great venue
02:00where they also have a play barn to let the kids burn off some energy.
02:03Or there's East Grange Farm at Durham where they have a variety of 17 different pumpkins to choose from.
02:09Newcastle Castle, which is rumoured to be the most haunted venue in the city,
02:13has lots of crafting activities throughout the half term, which includes making spooky monsters out of clay,
02:18decorating gravestones and making baths.
02:21They also have an array of horror films to go and watch on an evening.
02:25There's also the Hancock Museum in Newcastle that has lots to keep the kids entertained
02:29with their underground adventure with Murray the Mole.
02:32And they have plenty of arts and crafts going on, like making an upcycled hedgehog.
02:38For teens and adults, Psychopath is of course a fantastic venue if you're looking for a scare this Halloween break,
02:44with brand new horror attractions to really test your nerves.
02:49The Glass House at Gateside Quayside are also playing Alfred Hitchcock's classic thriller Psycho,
02:54with Bernard Herrmann's chilling soundtrack played live for those looking for something more theatrical.
