00:00What does it mean to be, you know, celebrated within the context of what you've accomplished
00:06in terms of opening doors for other women?
00:08Oh, it's an amazing honor.
00:10And look, I mean, Variety has just been, obviously, covering entertainment for so long, so having
00:14the longstanding relationship with Variety for decades at this point is amazing.
00:19But it's, you know, it's incredible if you just look at the women that I'm being honored
00:23with and what they've accomplished.
00:25And what I love so much about this event also is that, yes, sort of these things that
00:30I've accomplished in my career, but to be able to use this platform to actually showcase
00:34and talk about a charity and a cause that's really near and dear to me is just an incredible
00:39opportunity, especially when those two worlds can come together.
00:42And it's great to have this platform, you know, to be able to do that.
00:46Can we talk about Mindy real quick?
00:48She wrote a great note about what you've done for her, and obviously she's repaid that by
00:52naming characters for you.
00:54When you look at a career like hers and the opportunities she has had as another Indian
00:58American woman, how does it feel to know that it's other women who look like us that you're
01:06the one who gets to open the gateways for?
01:08Oh, that is actually way generous, and she's actually very generous to me in this way.
01:13The truth is, right, she is so incredibly talented.
01:16Mindy's like singular voice and always just had that incredible talent.
01:21My job was easy.
01:22I just got to champion somebody who I knew was very talented, and she gives me a lot
01:26of credit for doing that, except it was a really easy decision, and she's just been
01:31so prolific, and to do the Mindy project with her that I did many years ago, but to also
01:36do Never Have Ever with her on Netflix and what that meant to actually do an Indian American
01:43family show that was just loved all around the world, it was such an amazing thing to
01:48do together.
01:49We have her new show, Running Point, coming out too, so it's like we've done so many different
01:52kinds of things.
01:53Is Mindy a powerful woman in a job that we don't often see powerful women in?
01:57Yes, for sure, yes, and she's, you know, Mindy's just an incredible talent and a good friend,
02:03and my job was always easy, it was, you know, which is the job, it's like great writers,
02:07amazing filmmakers, creators, and you back that vision, and she was easy to do that.
02:12We've got to talk real quick about Carol Burnett, because I know you're a TV lover, but she's
02:18actually making a TV show about her life, her rise to fame in Hollywood.
02:23What would your TV show be about, if you were to capture your journey?
02:26Oh, wow, my TV show, first of all, I'd have to have Mindy create it.
02:30I think Mindy would have to create it, right?
02:33What is it?
02:34Well, I could say, like, you know, so here's an Indian immigrant girl comes to America,
02:40basically learns everything about American culture and high school and boys through watching
02:47television and film, and then rises to the job of being able to, you know, work on it
02:55and do the same thing and have those TV shows and films around the world.
02:58Mindy would definitely have to create it.
03:00Do you have a title?
03:02I don't have a title, but I'm sure you'll, yeah, you'll think of a good title.
03:07Mindy and I will get on it.
03:08I think you'll get on it, for sure.
03:10It's so nice to see you.
03:11Thank you so much.
03:12Beautiful.
03:14Is it special?
03:15It's very special.
03:16Can you tell us a little bit about your designer, Sabyasachi?
03:19Oh, yeah.
03:20So, this, there's a designer who's so amazing, and he's an Indian designer from India, and
03:27his name's Sabyasachi, and he does beautiful clothes, but he also makes this stunning necklaces
03:33and jewelry, and so I'm wearing something obviously not Indian, so I wanted to have
03:38a little sort of Indian touch, which is this beautiful necklace of his.
