Dallas Cowboys color analyst Babe Laufenberg on how the Cowboys can improve their offense. Does Dak need a new approach at how he handles his offense?

00:00Good morning. And as you knew, as you know, I should say that photo was taken, uh, when
00:20I was fly fishing on a river in Colorado. Holy crap. Is this beautiful? Yeah. How much
00:26I have really fixed. I'm not quite sure. Oh, you're like McCarthy saying you watch every
00:30piece of game tape. Yeah, exactly. Nope. You know what's funny though? McCarthy yesterday
00:35talked about in his presser, uh, they, the, the, the game that they look at the game to
00:41look at as a game from last year. And on my little three day sojourn to Colorado, uh,
00:47I did look at last year's tape of the game. I'd already, I told him, I said, Hey, I'm
00:51one step ahead of you. But how much does that actually help with the injury list on
00:56both sides? No, you're exactly right. I mean, it's, it's totally different, but here's kind
01:03of the bottom line. Shanahan's offense is going to be Shanahan's offense, right? Yeah.
01:07I mean, there's going to be tweaks and obviously they're missing people at the wide receiver
01:11position and so they're not going to be targeting certain things in their offense, but the offense
01:17remains the same. It's not like you say, well, we lost, we may not have Debo and we
01:21lost Brandon. Now you, so now we're going to, we're going to run Baltimore's offense
01:25and we're going to run read option or whatever the heck it is. So a lot of it remains the
01:29same. Uh, defensively is interesting. Um, you know, they've got their fourth coordinator
01:34in five years. Uh, and so Nick Sorenson's the first time, you know, coordinator for
01:41not just for them. I mean, in the league. So, uh, you know, you only have the first
01:45six games to go on. Uh, they've been beat up a little bit at their defensive tackle
01:49position. But again, I do think the, the principles of who you're playing remain the same, no
01:55matter which players are going to be out there. Your buddy is Troy Eggman. We all know what
02:01he said about CD lamb and the wide receiver routes. Do you agree? I was in Colorado, kind
02:09of lazy coming off the line and so on and so forth. Did, did you see the same thing?
02:14Are you seeing the same? Well, let me just say, I have a lot of respect for Troy. I know
02:19how hard he works. I know how much he puts into it. I know how much he looks at everything
02:24in the league and tape and, uh, and, and he's a very smart guy. He's won three Superbowls
02:31as a quarterback. So I think he, I think his comments carry weight. Um, he doesn't just
02:36flippantly throw something out there. I do know that. Um, are they a good route running
02:42team? No. And I've said that you, I've said that on a pregame show and you know, it's
02:46not, it's not a great route running team. They don't have great route runners. The best
02:50route runner is Brandon cooks and he got nine balls thrown to him or nine catches in the
02:55first four games. But that doesn't mean you can't be effective and route runners too.
03:02They tend to be quicker guys. Um, if I were, and I do, I coach some receivers a little
03:07bit, just help out. And, um, I would say, look, go watch Cooper cup. If you want to
03:13learn to run past patterns, go watch Cooper cup tape. Because to me, he's the best, the
03:18way he comes off. You talk about lazy coming off the ball. You guys have seen him. I mean,
03:23he's a hundred miles an hour on his first step. And it's not because he runs four, four.
03:27Yep. Matter of fact, he ran four, six, two at the combine. But to me, that's the guy
03:32you're looking at. But here's one, Sean, you're old enough to remember art month. I mean,
03:38he won the posse. Yeah. Yes. The Marv Levy of the hall of fame. Somebody else doesn't
03:45belong in, but you know, set the single season record. I think when he retired, I think when
03:51he retired, he had the most receptions of any receiver.
