00:00:00Oh, hi there. I'm Natalie Calder. I'm moving in today. Are you the super? I'm supposed
00:00:17to get the keys. Calder. Right. Uh, 504. Door's open. Keys are on the counter. Welcome to
00:00:23this field town lob. Oh, thank you. You know what? Actually, the movers are going to be
00:00:27here any minute, so is there anything I need to tell them? Uh, left with your knees. Sorry,
00:00:32I got two sprinklers in the back trying to flood a ground level balcony and I gotta shut this valve
00:00:36off. Oh, do you need help? Ah. You okay? Never better. Yep. Good. But wait, should the movers
00:00:43use a freight elevator or? Okay. Uh, freight elevator. Yeah. No. No, no. Just a regular
00:00:54elevator is just fine. Oh, sure. Yeah, of course. So excited to meet everybody. What's your name?
00:01:00Uh, Mark. Mark. Yeah. The building is so beautiful and I love all these fog trees.
00:01:08Uh, we love autumn here. Me too. Okay.
00:01:12Okay. Hi there. I'm Natalie. I'm your new neighbor. Oh, hello, dear. Well, it's nice to
00:01:18meet you. I'm Sylvia. This is Lola. Well, hello, Lola. She's beautiful. She's my baby. Oh, and
00:01:27she's got very sensitive ears, so no loud music. Oh, and no cooking with garlic, because she can
00:01:31smell it from across the hall. How are folks doing? Oh, they're doing great. They're doing
00:01:36Oh, and no cooking with garlic, because she can smell it from across the hall.
00:01:40How are folks? Never. You bet. Oh, and there's no clutter in the hallway, no exterior decorations,
00:01:47and your doormat needs to be approved from the homeowners association. Otherwise,
00:01:52you're going to get a red HOA violation warning. Those HOA boards can be so strict,
00:01:56but I bet you anything we can get them to loosen up. I'm the HOA president.
00:02:00Welcome to the building. Come on, Lola, darling. Let's go outside.

00:02:54Welcome to the building. Come on, Lola, darling. Let's go outside.
00:02:57Um, it's Natalie Calder. Yes. Well, no, funnily enough, I was actually wondering how you'd feel
00:03:03about me coming in today. You know, meet the team, check out the workspace. Oh, yes. No,
00:03:11of course. That that totally makes sense. OK, so, um, then I'll just I'll see you in six weeks
00:03:18as planned. Great. Also, I just I wanted to say thank you so much for this opportunity. Hello.
00:03:24Hello. Bye.
00:03:30Oh, hello there. I'm Natalie. I just moved.
00:03:37Hector, what is that? It's for my new painting. Oh, so we're just painting in the lobby now. No,
00:03:42the lighting's all wrong. Why is it blocking my mailbox? I had too much to carry. I was
00:03:47coming back to move it. You know what? I'm happy to help you. I'm Natalie. I just moved
00:03:51into the building. Hi. Oh, why aren't these packages in order? Oh, I can help you organize
00:03:58it. I'm Natalie. Oh, great. See what you did, Hector. Thank you. She has no appreciation for
00:04:17art.
00:04:38Excuse me, ma'am. Oh, CMU. I work there or I'm going to next semester. Really doing what?
00:04:45Admissions. That's not an easy job. I always felt like I snuck in the side door.
00:04:50So we're looking for volunteers for Pittsburgh's annual walk to end Alzheimer's. You know,
00:04:54I just moved to town and my job starts soon. The walk is in three weeks. It's a pretty great way
00:05:00to make friends, too. You know what? How do I say no to a fellow tartan? Where do I sign up?
00:05:04Let me get Linda. She's the volunteer coordinator. Linda. Hi, I'm Linda. Hi, I'm Natalie. Nice to
00:05:11meet you. Natalie wants to sign up to help with the walk. Fantastic. Now, there are forms. Sorry,
00:05:17but after that, it's nothing but hard work that's going to help a lot of people. I like the sound
00:05:21of that. By the way, I love your hat. Oh, thank you. Yeah, it felt autumn-y. Autumn-y? Autumn-y.
00:05:29I love it. I'm stealing that. The phrase, not the hat. But you know what? It is perfect for
00:05:37the season. Just look at this beautiful fall day. I was thinking that, too. It's gorgeous.
00:05:42No, no. No phones. Camera can't capture this.
00:05:53Excuse me, sir. We're looking for volunteers for Pittsburgh's annual walk to end Alzheimer's.
00:05:57Uh, no. Sorry, but thank you. Okay. I'll be right back. You know what? Just give me a
00:06:05word second. Excuse me. Hey, Natalie. From the building? Hi. Right, yeah. Hi. Hi. Yeah,
00:06:12that volunteer. She was just telling you about a really important cause, but you didn't listen
00:06:16to the rest of her pitch. Oh, um, yeah. Well, it's not my fight. What does that mean? I, uh,
00:06:24I, I gotta go. You have to go?
00:06:33I don't have a fight.
00:06:38Sorry about that. Okay, where do I sign? Right here. Thank you. Great.
00:06:55So,
00:07:10see anything you like? Uh, yes, please. I will take one of everything.
00:07:14You joke, but I've seen people try. This place is fabulous. It's like a fall wonderland.
00:07:21Your apron should say queen of fall things. I like you. Just for that, first piece is on me.
00:07:28Well, now I like you. So much better.
00:07:36Tis the season. We have the classics. Pumpkin, pecan, apple. We also have walnut cranberry,
00:07:41and because I'm fancy, we have pumpkin spice latte, which I so fancy.
00:07:46Uh, okay, so it's, uh, fall, so I think I'll just go classic apple today. All right, whipped cream?
00:07:53Absolutely. Hey, Trey, this is my BLT. As usual, enjoy.
00:07:59Well? We meet again. Excuse me, uh, could I get some extra napkins? Of course, be there in a sec.
00:08:05Thank you. You're welcome.
00:08:20Thank you. Enjoy. The perfect piece of apple pie. Looks good. Enjoy. Uh, coffee? Okay.
00:08:29Hey, that guy, Mark, do you know him? Yeah, he's a doll. I mean, you know, a doll wrapped in barbed wire
00:08:35protected by guard dogs, but there's a real sweetie in there. He's the super in my building,
00:08:41and if I'm honest, everybody in there is a little bit prickly. Maybe you just haven't gotten to know
00:08:46them yet. I mean, I haven't, and they haven't gotten to know me. You know, I should have
00:08:50everybody over for, like, chili or something. People love my chili. I'll just go with chili.
00:08:56People love my chili. I'll have a chili party. Perfect. I'm gonna need some pies. Boom. Let me
00:09:02ask my boss if I can get you a discount. Oh, thanks. Hey, boss, can we give this nice lady
00:09:07a discount? Why, that sounds like a capital idea. Thanks, boss. That was 20% off sound.
00:09:15You're so weird. I'm obsessed. Can you ask your boss if there's a print shop around here?
00:09:22Hey, boss.
00:09:44Hey, darling.
00:09:51Hi. You live here? And hello to you. I do. 107 right off the lobby. Makes the commute shorter when I have to
00:10:11investigate a leak in 404 at 9 30 at night. And you just thought you'd stop by on your way for a free meal?
00:10:17Leak? 404? Right beneath you? I gotta look under your sink. Right. Yes.
00:10:29You having a party? Apparently not. Well, you're all set up already. You even got your books out.
00:10:35Yeah, I love to read. I just don't have time. I thought this would be so fun for a big chili
00:10:40party for all my neighbors. Long story short, no one came. Yeah, well, that tracks.
00:10:46What does that mean? Why would no one come to my party? Oh, there it is. Hey, you got a towel I can borrow?
00:10:51Here. Catch. Let me get this straight. You're the super in this building, right? You know about
00:10:57everything that goes on. What am I missing? All right, look, I just work here. I stay out of
00:11:01people's business. They stay out of mine. But they're your neighbors. Well, they're also my
00:11:06employers. But they're sometimes your neighbors. But they're always my employers. Only from 9 to 5.
00:11:13932. All right, answer one question. Why does no one in this building seem to get along?
00:11:18And how long has it been going on for? Has it always been this way? Or is it a new thing?
00:11:22And why would that be? Did something happen? Okay, fine. One long question with multiple parts.
00:11:30Like I said, I stay out of people's business. They stay out of mine. I don't like to get involved.
00:11:36Look, there's 30 units in the building. Half the people keep for themselves. The other half
00:11:41actively do not like each other. That is so sad. What would you say if I told you that in my last
00:11:46building it was one big family? I'd say you gotta screw loose. Excuse me? Out of the sink. You gotta
00:11:52screw loose. Okay, that should do it. All right, well, I'm all done here. I will leave you to your
00:12:02time. Thanks. You know what? Wait. Here, take this. Oh, no, no, no. No, it's really good chili,
00:12:11and the fridge is only so big. Just take it. Take it. It's delicious. Thank you. You're welcome.
00:12:18Oh, heavy, too. This is a hazard. Oh, well, now it's a choking hazard. Just be a neighborly. Would
00:12:24you mind being neighborly and grabbing the door for me? Oh. Here. Um, go ahead. Yeah. Yeah.
00:12:32So, go, go, go. Okay, you got it. You got it. Yeah. I'll get this back to you in three to four weeks.
00:12:38Hi. Nice day for a bike ride. Mm-hmm. Where are you off to? I'm gonna go out exploring.
00:13:07I'm also gonna grab some souvenirs for some of my friends back home. My friend Tobias,
00:13:11he wants a book from the Andy Warhol Museum. My friend Janice, she wants a Pittsburgh-themed cat
00:13:16toy. No idea where I'm gonna find that. Oh, and how's this for a coincidence? Beth wants a t-shirt
00:13:21from the bicycle museum. Did you know Pittsburgh had a bicycle museum? I did. Because you rode your
00:13:26bike there? Nope. I ride my bike because it's a way for me to get a little me time. But you don't
00:13:32get involved, right? So, isn't it all me time? Well, it's better than a full day of everyone
00:13:39else's time. What? You didn't like doing that stuff? Well, you don't do things for other people
00:13:43for yourself. You do things for other people for them. Like this. Let's just try it sometime.
00:13:52I'm on call 24 hours a day. For other people, I do this because this is something that is just
00:13:56for me. Maybe you should try it sometime.
00:14:12Tobias! Hey, Natalie. A bunch of us were about to decorate the lobby. Oh, that is so great. I wish
00:14:19I were there to help. Don't you have a lobby to decorate in Pittsburgh? Yeah, well, it's a little
00:14:24bit complicated. The people in the building, they're not the friendliest bunch. What? What is
00:14:29so funny? Don't you remember what it was like when you first moved in here? Nobody really knew each
00:14:34other. Sure, we're neighbors, but we just nodded to each other politely in the hallways. You're the
00:14:38one that pulled us together. You turned us into more than just neighbors. Thanks, buddy.
00:14:45The shanty has to be stopped. Why can't you just, I don't know, put up a laundry sign? Mira,
00:14:50all signs have to be approved by the HOA. Wait, they do? They must have taken down my
00:14:54chili party flyer. That's why no one came. I'm sure that's the reason. Wait, who are you? Oh,
00:14:59hi, I'm Natalie. I just moved into 504. Oh, fifth floor.
00:15:06What's wrong with the fifth floor? I just moved into the fifth floor. Don't ask. Wait, wait,
00:15:10wait, wait, wait. Building politics. Trust me, you are better off not getting involved. It's
00:15:15too late for that because I live on the fifth floor, so what is it? Is it haunted? Honestly,
00:15:22yeah. What? No, it's not haunted. I wish it was that simple. Why won't you tell me what's going
00:15:26on in this building? Why do you care so much? Well, one, because I'm a decent human being.
00:15:30Offended. And two, because I want to live in a place where people genuinely like each other
00:15:36and help each other. No, no, I want to do my job and I want to mind my own business.
00:15:41All right. OK, I'm just going to have to take matters into my own hands then. I'm going to
00:15:46bring the people in this building together. OK, that sounds great. And then when I succeed,
00:15:49I'm going to have the satisfaction of knowing that you, sir, were wrong. Don't you have a job?
00:15:55Oh, yeah, I got a job, but it doesn't start for six long weeks. Get used to her.
00:16:11Wow. So not a single person came? Not one. I'm choosing to believe that it's because somebody
00:16:21took down the flyer, but it was Mark. He's such a good egg. You know, I saw him refuse to even
00:16:27listen to a college student doing volunteer work. He's a hard boiled egg. Am I tasting bacon?
00:16:33Butternut squash and bacon every fall. People lose their minds. It tastes like something my
00:16:39grandmother would have made. Nostalgia keeps me in business. The stomach and the heart,
00:16:43there's a direct pipeline between them. You know what? I think I got to try again.
00:16:50More chili? No, I got to bring out the big guns, baked goods. Work for me.
00:17:01Hello there. Do you live in this building? No, we don't. No.
00:17:04Excellent. How's it going over there? So good.
00:17:11Hello there. It's a gorgeous fall morning. The perfect weather for a yummy muffin. I'm sorry,
00:17:16I don't have any cash. Oh, no, no, they're free. It's my way of saying howdy, neighbor.
00:17:21So we've got apple walnuts, cranberry bran and lemon poppy seed. Well, how much for all three?
00:17:26No, no, no, it's free. Yeah. Hi, I'm coming. Not a word. I just work here.
00:17:34Oh, hello there. Can I offer you a muffin? Oh, bless you.
00:17:47Hello, gentlemen. Who'd you care for a muffin?
00:17:59Are you laughing at me? Nope. No, I'm just thinking about a joke somebody told me earlier.
00:18:04Is it a joke about a lady giving out muffins no one wants? No, no, but that's funny. Who are they?
00:18:10Zeke, Preston, roommates. The roommates who hate each other? Yeah. Why? None of my business.
00:18:26Do I need takers? I figured out the problem. The fulcrum needs to be closer to the end
00:18:32to get the right leverage. No, no, no. It's this lobby and the entrance here. I mean, right now,
00:18:38it's just being used as a space for people to get from one place to the next. It needs to be a place
00:18:42people can gather, chat, share recipes, play muffin games and have muffin fights and tell
00:18:47stories about the times of muff. It needs to be decorated and it's fall, right? So reds and
00:18:55oranges, corn husks and gourds. Bing, bang, boom. All right. Come with me. Come with me.
00:19:04You can leave the muffins. No one's interested in taking those. Come on.
00:19:11Wait, are those decorations? Are those fall decorations? And Christmas? Hold on. I gotta
00:19:17get in there. It's a whole shebang. Are you kidding? When I was a kid, we used to decorate
00:19:22the lobby all the time. When you were a kid? You grew up here? My dad was a super. Oh, family
00:19:27business. Passed down from generation to generation. That's right. Just like the Carnegies. Well, why
00:19:32don't we use these? You're kind of obsessed. It's not complicated. I like to lend a hand when I can.
00:19:39I still have a lot of hands. Just two. Mark, there you are. You coming to the meeting tonight? Oh,
00:19:45that's tonight? Please be there. We're discussing those planters. Oh, I know. I know. I can't wait.
00:19:52Hi, Hector. Hi. Hi. What was that about? What's the meeting? It's just a homeowner association's
00:19:59monthly meeting. What a perfect way for me to meet everybody. No, no, don't even think about it. I'm
00:20:06gonna make snacks. Literally do anything else. None of you are listening. You need to get on the
00:20:12HOA board. Honestly. No, you don't want to even let your child sit on the board and do a thing.
00:20:20We are doing it. Just leave me alone. Order. Mira, the floor is yours. So the exterminators
00:20:28are coming this Saturday? Yes, for their annual visit. We need to vacate two till five. That's
00:20:34very inconvenient. What are we supposed to do from that time? I can't do that. Hector.
00:20:41The agenda says we're supposed to address painting the planter boxes.
00:20:45I vote blue. We are not painting the planter boxes. Wood should look like wood. What about
00:20:51red? Bread. Of course, Shanti wants red. What about bread? Bread is very in right now. Then
00:20:55I vote we stay out. So no bread. I have an idea. What about a compromise? You know, we could make
00:21:01the planter boxes neutral and then we could plant flowers that are going to bloom red or blue or
00:21:06something seasonal and then we could decorate the lobby. Who are you? Oh, hi, I'm Natalie. We've
00:21:11actually met a couple of times. Fifth floor. I brought treats. Wait, isn't she the one who left
00:21:21her muffins everywhere? Maybe that's why we need the exterminator. You know you like to lend a hand,
00:21:30but with this group you may never get it back.
00:21:33Oh no. Volunteers like you are critical. Your support and enthusiasm makes all the difference.
00:21:42Now, Vero here, who is my right hand and sometimes my left one too,
00:21:47is going to hand out some assignments. If you have any questions at all, my door is always open.
00:21:55That was so inspiring. Oh, thank you. I'm like one of those posters, you know, with the kittens
00:22:01hanging there. I'm Linda. Oh, Natalie, we met the other day by the pie place. You liked my hat.
00:22:08Autumny. Yes. Right. Sorry, I talk to so many people. Good. You just moved to Pittsburgh,
00:22:13right? I did, yeah, and if I'm honest, this is the most welcome I've felt since I got here.
00:22:18Well, new places are tough. When I first moved here from Houston, it took a while for me to
00:22:22fit in. What did you do? Well, they put me in charge, so I just ordered them to like me.
00:22:27Are you ready to get to work? Always.
00:22:34Oh, sorry. You have time for a slice? Pear, rosemary, and red wine. Delish, but be warned,
00:22:43she's woozy. I am so busy. Listen to this. I need to get a stuffed animal from the aquarium for
00:22:48Teddy. I have to stop at the school and I have to get a Carnegie Mellon pendant for Tom,
00:22:52and I still have to find a Pittsburgh cat toy for Janice. You do know you live here now, right?
00:22:59Why are you trying to get all this done in one day? I mean, with everything with the walk to
00:23:02end Alzheimer's and trying to get the people in the building to get along, it's like I need to
00:23:06figure out a way to be more efficient. I wish I knew the city better. Andrea, this is for me,
00:23:10BLT. Hello. Yeah, $12. Hey, also, um, our new friend Natalie here needs a local to show her
00:23:22around town. What are you doing today? No, no. No, I'm sure he's really busy. Well, I mean,
00:23:26I'm not that busy, but you probably want to go by yourself and, you know, it's probably easier if
00:23:29you walk around. Actually, I could use the help, but I don't want to pressure you. $12? Oh, uh,
00:23:33oh, that's the price of a BLT for helpers. For non-helpers, it's $1,200. Is that right?
00:23:42Steep. Don't make me get my boss. All right, I'll take you.
00:23:51On the house.
00:23:56There is not a single thing on this list that's for you. It's all for other people. We're not
00:24:00having this conversation again, okay? You're here purely to be a human GPS. The only thing
00:24:05I want to hear out of you is, in 10 feet, turn left. That being said, I'm sure this
00:24:10isn't exactly how you plan to spend your afternoon, so thanks. Is that Chuck from the building? It's
00:24:20Chuck. Oh, it's Chuck. Hey, Chuck. Chuck. Hi. Hi. I wasn't doing anything. No, I didn't say you
00:24:31were. It's Natalie from the building, right? And Mark. Mark, Chuck, Chuck, Mark, Natalie. Hi, Chuck.
00:24:39This is weird. No, it's not weird. No, it's weird. You know, we're neighbors.
00:24:43You're saying hi. I gotta go. You don't have to. No. He's right. That was weird. It didn't have to
00:24:52be, though, did it? Hey, do you want to get some cider? I do. Do you have any cash? Can I fill this
00:24:57up? Can I ask you a question? In three feet, turn right. You will have reached your final destination.
00:25:02You're getting good at that. Thank you. Now, you know everybody in this building better than anyone.
00:25:07Why don't you help them fix it? Will you hold this? Can you put this up? Yeah. I don't have any tape.
00:25:12I do. Thanks. Super's golden rule. You can fix the toilets. You cannot fix the people.
00:25:19What a cliche. Who said that? My dad. Sorry. Building super dynasty, remember?
00:25:26Taught me everything I know. Will you hang this up? I don't have any tape, but maybe you could.
00:25:32Thanks. Of course. So when did you take over for him? I didn't. He stepped down shortly
00:25:40after I graduated high school, and then we moved, and somebody else filled the position.
00:25:45So what'd you do in between? Kind of followed in my dad's footsteps out in the wild. You know, a
00:25:49little of this, a little of that. Mostly handyman stuff, and then I saw Steel Town was looking for
00:25:54a new super, and I thought... Full circle. Steady work. Would you hang this up for me? She doesn't
00:26:02have any tape. Thanks. Can I get it? Yeah. So how's your dad doing now? Oh, he's retired. He doesn't
00:26:09miss it one little bit. He still asks you for details about the building all the time, doesn't
00:26:13he? All the time. All the time. I love this book. I'm gonna buy it. Let's see. I have a... Can I give
00:26:22you six? Is that okay? Thank you so much. In fact, he doesn't miss it so much that he has already
00:26:27messaged me three separate times just to confirm that the exterminators are still coming. So our
00:26:32whole building is gonna be out for three hours on Saturday? Mm-hmm. Well, this is what they need
00:26:39to be out sipping cider, in nature, connecting, right? We can call it a captive audience
00:26:46extermination party. I'm not sure it's wordy enough. Whatever it is, it better be fantastic.
00:26:52You're gonna get everybody to play nice for three hours. It is. We're going leaf peeping.
00:27:03And you're coming.
00:27:14See, I'm trying to take that down.
00:27:20Oh, hello, dear. Hi. Do you mind giving me a hand? My old hips aren't what they used to be. You're
00:27:25young and healthy. Oh, tell that to my hips. You okay? Oh, yeah. I was just tying my shoe.
00:27:31And there's not really a bench to sit on out here. We were going to replace it, but we couldn't
00:27:36agree on the size or the style or what even constitutes a bench. Thank you, dear. Oh, wait.
00:27:43Before you go, we're gonna go leaf peeping. We'd love it if you joined us. Oh, wow. That looks like
00:27:49fun. But no. Thank you for your help, dear.
00:27:58So, yeah. Hello, dear.
00:28:02It's never gonna happen. Oh, yeah. Well, you'll see. Have fun. Always. Thank you.
00:28:10Mark says no one in the building is gonna want to go leaf peeping, but I think he's wrong.
00:28:14I think it's gonna be a blast. Yeah. Sounds like a regular carnival ride to me. Hey!
00:28:19Thank you. Oh, you remind me so much of myself. Oh, I'll take that as a compliment. It is. I'm fantastic.
00:28:27But I used to be a lot more worried about other people than I ever was about myself.
00:28:31And eventually, I learned that sometimes you gotta put yourself first. Says the woman running a giant
00:28:36charity walk. Running a very small part of it. And there's a huge team around me. But wait, you're
00:28:42doing that for other people. Yeah, but I'm doing it for myself, too. In a lot of ways. But the biggest
00:28:47is it all of this? Brings me joy. Hey, Linda, the pinwheel flowers came in. You have to see this.
00:29:05Flowers are a way to show your specific connection to Alzheimer's. Purple is for people who've lost
00:29:13someone to the disease. Yellow is for caregivers. Orange is for everyone else who supports our
00:29:19mission to rid the world of Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. And the blue flower is for those
00:29:28living with it. Wow, there's such life in these faces. Dads and moms.
00:29:44And friends.
00:29:50That's a picture of you. From last year. But I thought the blue flower was for people living.
00:29:57Early onset. No, but you're not... I mean... You're surprised I'm not old? Imagine my surprise.
00:30:06No, it's unusual, but it happens. I was lucky. I have a family history, so we knew what to look
00:30:13for. We're doing every intervention to slow things down. That is so heartbreaking, but
00:30:21but it's so inspiring. Like I said, sometimes
00:30:27you have to put yourself first. Maybe your friend Mark has a point.
00:30:46All right. Thanks, guys. Right through here. Happy hunting.
00:30:58Nobody showed up.
00:31:03Did you come to gloat? No, no, that's no fun anymore.
00:31:09You know, people still might show up. I just, I wanted to go leaf peeping.
00:31:13I know. Doesn't mean you can't still peep. I don't want to go by myself. Well, you know,
00:31:19just because people don't want you to do something nice for them doesn't mean you
00:31:22can't do something nice for yourself. I'll tell you what. I'll go with you. What? Really? Yeah.
00:31:30I'll go. I'll peep. But we're not walking.
00:31:43Well, this is what me time looks like. I am all in. Oh, it's exactly like this.
00:31:47Except, you know, just you. Wow. Look at the reflection of the leaves on the river.
00:31:53I never actually noticed that before. How do you not notice a river?
00:31:56Well, because I'm busy keeping my eyes on the road like you should be. Corner, corner.
00:32:02Thank you. You know, I think I'm going to like Pittsburgh. Good. I'm happy to hear that.
00:32:10You surprised me, Mark Wallace. Why? Because I'm not a curmudgeon? Oh, you are. You're a total
00:32:15curmudgeon. No, it's mostly just that you ride so slowly. Oh, all right.
00:32:34This is spectacular. Nature really knew what she was doing on this one.
00:32:40I'm just bummed more people from the building didn't come.
00:32:43You're so focused on everybody else. That's not true.
00:32:48OK, it's a little true. A little.
00:32:51When was the last time you sat under a tree, read a good book? When was the last time you did?
00:32:57Last week. And I'm a little offended by how surprised you seem by that.
00:33:01I'm sorry. I just want everybody in the building to be your friends.
00:33:06I didn't have a lot of friends growing up. My brother is 12 years older than me,
00:33:11and he left the house when I was six. My parents worked a lot. And I know what it's like to feel
00:33:18alone and disconnected. Everybody needs somebody. People. People need people. There's even a song
00:33:27about it. Oh, I know you. You don't need to sing it. You didn't come back to me.
00:33:33You didn't come back to the building because you wanted a steady job.
00:33:38You came back because you love that place. Maybe, possibly a little bit.
00:33:45I think you'd be a lot happier if you got involved in fixing whatever's going on between our
00:33:50neighbors. Well, I think you would be happy if you stopped worrying so much about everybody else.
00:33:55So I'll tell you what, I will help you broker peace in the building, but you have to spend
00:34:02more time just for you. Okay, so I help you to be more involved. You help me to be less involved.
00:34:09And I don't know that you would be helping me, but yeah. Well, that sounds like a win-win to me.
00:34:20Okay, so you said half of the building ignores each other, and the other half
00:34:24actively dislikes each other. Correct. So who exactly dislikes whom?
00:34:28Well, you got Mira and Shanti, Zeke and Preston. What about Celia? Oh, she's a special one. Okay, who else?
00:34:34Yeah, one sec.
00:34:39Now.
00:34:43It's fun, right? So fun. I know.
00:34:48Yeah, so the thing about the trash compactor is if you don't get the bags in all the way,
00:34:51or does anything kind of get jammed up a little bit? Yeah, that's a problem.
00:34:54There it is, yep. Okay, watch. What's gonna happen? We'll see. Hector.
00:35:02Hector! Oh, hi Liz. How did you know he was gonna do that? Not my first rodeo. Every day I get home
00:35:10with my kids, and what do you know? Five minutes later, the ground is shaking uncontrollably,
00:35:14because you are blasting your music. And every day you come down to complain. And what do I say to you?
00:35:20Hector, I can't control my kids. They're insane. If you can't control your noise, then I can't control mine.
00:35:36And also, compost has to go in the compost. Yeah, okay. Nope. Yep. Hey Liz. Not today. Yep.
00:35:44All right, this problem can be solved with some simple guidelines about noise. It would seem so.
00:35:50But the problem with Hector and Liz is nothing to do with noise. Something you learn by observing.
00:35:55You mean by being disconnected from the world like a total dude? No, I mean observing the human
00:36:00condition instead of just meddling. And what you would realize is that what people get upset about
00:36:05is rarely what they're actually upset about. All right, what are they upset about? I don't know.
00:36:08That's what we got to figure out. Well, we just need them to sit down and talk to each other.
00:36:12But how? I don't know. We need to find something that appeals to both of them. I mean,
00:36:16Hector likes to paint. Liz needs things to do with her kids. Maybe something creative?
00:36:21What? What is this? You're getting into this. I'm not getting into this. You are. I'm absolutely
00:36:24not getting into this. I want to put a stop to the yelling because I can hear it in my apartment.
00:36:29I got an idea. All right, you know what I'm gonna do? I'm just gonna go right in there and I'm just
00:36:44gonna be myself. I'm just gonna do what you do. Trust me. Trust me. Trust me. Hi. Hey, what's up,
00:36:52boss? How you doing? Wasn't it nice of Hector to bring all these art supplies? Wasn't that nice?
00:37:03Right. The reason I brought you out here today is I noticed you don't get along very well.
00:37:13Does that ring true for you at all? OK, I got to be honest. I got I got it. We got to just
00:37:20get this out there. Right. I don't think it's about the noise. I think there's something deeper
00:37:25going on. Right. Right. So. So let's just let's talk about it. You know,
00:37:30sunlight is the best disinfectant. OK, let me ask you a hypothetical. All right. OK. No,
00:37:37sorry. Trust me. Did not want to. Hector, you're an artist. What do you like to art?
00:37:47I'm a painter. Landscapes, mostly your grandmother was a painter. Yes. How do you know that? I
00:37:56remember from growing up in the building when I was a kid and you moved in after she passed away.
00:38:02I didn't know that. I'm really sorry for your loss. Thank you.
00:38:13She taught me everything I know. I'd go to her place after school. She always said
00:38:20the afternoon light was the best to paint by. But I think she was just trying to make me feel
00:38:27better because my mom was always working. Mine worked all the time, too.
00:38:34I swore when I became a mom, I was going to be there, you know, all the time.
00:38:42Even though it is extremely overwhelming.
00:38:46I'm sorry about the music.
00:38:50I don't like wearing headphones and I need something to help me concentrate.
00:39:02Where are we going? Almost there. Almost there. All right.
00:39:08Almost there. All right.
00:39:14This is it.
00:39:18What are we doing? This. Sitting.
00:39:26I don't understand. Yeah, just sit.
00:39:30Watch. Watch the world go by? Pretty much, yeah.
00:39:33What do you see? You know what?
00:39:40Actually, Liz should bring her kids here. They would love it. I'm going to text her.
00:39:45Or what if you just looked? Just look. Tell me what you see.
00:39:53I see people. Yeah. People having fun. I see leaves. You know what? I see a perfectly
00:40:06symmetrical leaf. Okay, wait. Wait, I think I just got it. So you can't see the forest because
00:40:12you're too busy looking at the trees. You can't see the trees for the forest. I never understood
00:40:16that before. I don't think I have to walk you through the irony of only just getting that
00:40:21right now. Only seeing the meaning. You know what? No. Drea was right about you. Oh, do tell.
00:40:30No, she said you're a good guy, but guarded. I bet she used more colorful language than that.
00:40:35Barb Dwyer and a guard dog. Yeah, that sounds about right.
00:40:39Whoa. Look at that. Not bad. Look at this. Yeah.
00:40:44What? What? I just, I'm, okay, I'm just wondering,
00:40:58like, why has the good guy not let his guard down? Or has he with, you know, someone special?
00:41:07Special. Special. He has. A couple times, actually, but that didn't work out so well.
00:41:16He got a meaner guard dog? Yeah, something like that.
00:41:20What about you? Come on. You spend your whole life making everybody else the wind beneath your
00:41:27wings. Don't. Don't sing. How did she know I had the answer to sing? Because I'm getting to know you.
00:41:32You never found somebody special to focus all that energy on? Yeah, there has been. I think
00:41:41my particular bright spotlight shining directly on him was a little overwhelming.
00:41:48Well, maybe there's a middle ground. Lose the Barb Dwyer, keep the guard dog?
00:41:54Shine that spotlight on yourself a little more. Forest for the trees. Trees for the forest.
00:42:00What does that mean? I don't know. That doesn't make sense in the contest. Just came out.
00:42:04You shouldn't just say things like that. Lose all credibility. Did I have any to begin with?
00:42:09No. Fair. What? Nothing. What? Just thinking. Just thinking.
00:42:39So
00:42:58I can't believe the zoo is double booked for our big walk event day. Oh, I know. Well,
00:43:03I already put in a call to CMU about their campus quad, so I'll follow up tomorrow. What else can I
00:43:08do? Don't suppose you could recruit another team for the walk? Well, I thought we had tons of teams.
00:43:13Yeah, well, one of them backed out. But you know what? The walks in a week. It's probably impossible.
00:43:18Well, I love impossible. You know what? I'm going to do this. I'm going to start right now. Natalie,
00:43:25it's quitting time, hon. Unplug, take out the batteries, do whatever it is you have to do to
00:43:31power down. We'll talk tomorrow, OK? OK. Bye.
00:44:01What do you see?
00:44:23I present. Oh, this is nice. I didn't even know this existed. No, no one ever uses it.
00:44:31Such a shame. You know, this would be a great place to build a garden or or a play space for
00:44:36Liz's kids. She would love that. All right. All right. Pump the brakes one thing at a time.
00:44:40That is the laundry room. Are we waiting for your delicates to dry?
00:44:48We are waiting for the weekly argument that Shanti and Mira have over wet clothes left
00:44:52in the washing machine. Let me guess. It's about something more than the laundry room.
00:44:57Wait for it. Shanti, your clothes are in here again. What? I'm trying to teach a class right
00:45:04now. How am I supposed to do laundry with a machine? Oh, no. We're going to need something
00:45:10a lot stronger than finger paints to fix this one. Yep. Do they have anything in common?
00:45:14I don't know. I mean, Mira's type A. All business. Shanti is like laid back, easy going. What does
00:45:19Shanti do for a living? I think she teaches yoga. The other day when you got off the elevator,
00:45:23Mira was carrying a yoga mat.
00:45:35Namaste. Namaste.
00:45:39Mira, thank you so much for agreeing to come out here today. Well, my regular yogi
00:45:44is on a trip to Kathmandu. Fifth dharma, second chakra. Twice removed.
00:45:54Just kidding. So, Mira, Shanti, it feels like the two of you are struggling with
00:46:01work-life balance, right? Mira, it seems like you're all work and Shanti, you're kind of all
00:46:07life. Well, and I just got a huge promotion and I didn't know that. Congrats. Thanks.
00:46:13But it's double the work and I'm exhausted and I just don't have time to be going in. To keep
00:46:19checking the laundry room to see if I've taken my clothes out of the machine. I get it. I'm sorry.
00:46:25I just got laid off a few months ago. Oh, really? Well, that's terrible. Well,
00:46:31how are you paying your bills? I'm doing virtual yoga lessons online,
00:46:35but I'm like a substitute teacher and I never know when they'll call. Oh, so that's why you
00:46:40keep forgetting your laundry. Mira, it sounds like you need less work and Shanti, you need more
00:46:46or at least more regular. Any chance you need to hire an assistant? Someone energetic who lives
00:46:52close by? I could do it. I could do it. Absolutely not. Does it pay? Very little. I'll take it.
00:46:59Yeah, let's talk benefits.
00:47:05Okay. I'm impressed. Thank you. You're not talking about me. It was my yoga skills that got us here.
00:47:13Well, that and the fact that you got involved. I did not get involved. You can't have it both
00:47:18ways, my friend. Watch me. Oh, you know what? I need to swing by Linda's office to talk to her
00:47:23about teams. Do you want to come? Do I have to be on a team?
00:47:29Well, I have someone who says they can find a few people to put a team together, but not the 10 we
00:47:35need to hit our stretch fundraising goal. Well, I can get you 10 people. No problem. Are you sure?
00:47:40Yeah. Because the walk is next week and you still have to get them to sign up and get donations. I
00:47:45mean, most teams have been at it for months. What happens if you don't make your fundraising
00:47:50goal? Well, it's not the end of the world, but it'll disappoint some people and I don't like
00:47:54disappointing people. You can count on me. Okay, but you have to promise me that you won't overdo
00:48:00it. You've already saved us with the new venue at the university campus. So don't forget to eat,
00:48:06drink water, take rest breaks. During the walk, you mean? No, during your life. Oh, I like you.
00:48:14I like her. Okay, Mark, it's your job to make sure she doesn't get carried away.
00:48:19Way ahead of you, boss. Now that you mention it, I'm kind of starving. All right. Well,
00:48:28how about a no work allowed afternoon? Yeah. Get out of here.
00:48:42Jimmy Wallace will serve no burger before it's time. I got a reputation to uphold, you know?
00:48:48You know, one of these days, Dad, you're gonna have to let somebody else man that grill.
00:48:52Oh, forget it. When I go, I'm taking this baby with me. I have no doubt.
00:48:58Hi. Hi, guys. Hi. Hello. Who's this? Uh, Natalie, this is my dad. This is Jimmy.
00:49:04It's Jimmy. I'm a Mark of friends. I mean, I'm a friend of Mark's. I'm for friends and friends.
00:49:10Friends. Uh, neighbors. Yeah, that's better. Natalie's a new tenant in 504. Oh, oh,
00:49:17fifth floor. Okay, will someone please tell me what's wrong with this door? Oh, nothing. Just
00:49:23some of the people who live up there think that they're better than everyone else because they
00:49:26live on the top floor. Hi, Andrea. What are you doing here? Well, I've been going to Glifty since
00:49:31before you were born, back when her aunt Diana ran it. So, uh, Dre gives me pie and I give her
00:49:36burgers. It's such beautiful French. Yeah, he makes the best burgers in town better than mine.
00:49:42This is true. I can't wait to try one. So what can I do to help? Oh, no, no, no. Nobody touches
00:49:47dad's grill. No, this is my kingdom. So, uh, please relax. Enjoy. I don't know. That might
00:49:53be a foreign concept to you. Do you know how to relax? Ye of little faith. Watch this.
00:50:00His dad is so nice. He is. He's a good guy. Heart as big as the Allegheny River.
00:50:12A lot like his son. So what's going on there? I see you two out and about and it looks like
00:50:19that grill over there isn't the only thing that's smoking. Would you stop? I don't, I have no idea
00:50:23what's going on, but we're very different. Hey, relationships are like pie. Everything is like
00:50:28pie to you. Everything. Some of the best ones have ingredients that you never think are going
00:50:33to go together, like cheddar cheese on a slice of classic apple. And it ends up being delicious.
00:50:41Kids, come get some pie. No, I've done the same thing.
00:50:48Hello. Now, are you a blueberry person or an apple person?
00:50:52Hmm. So, uh, this is a surprise. What's that? Well, you don't come to the cookouts too often.
00:51:00And when you do, you never bring a, uh, friend. The neighbor, huh? Yeah. The neighbor, you know,
00:51:07I mean, you know, yeah, she's, uh, she's, she's, she's, she's been hanging out a little bit, but
00:51:12it's not, it's, I'm, I'm not, it's more relaxed. You're going to pull a hamster and all that
00:51:17dancing around. Look, I know the building is where I work and, and I know what happens
00:51:22if you get too involved. So, end of story. Hey, Wallace. Sure. Yeah.
00:51:29You're going to stand on the sidelines. You're going to join us out on the iron grid.
00:51:33Gridiron. Gridiron. Hold my beer.
00:51:40We're going to get him. No mercy here. No mercy. Okay. You two are going to bootleg
00:51:44around and do a dummy run, but I'm really going to do a Hail Mary to Natalie in the end zone.
00:51:48Okay. Wait. I don't know what any of that means. Don't overthink it. I'm great.
00:51:54All right. Come on team. Here we go.
00:52:14Oh, I did. I did. Oh, it felt so good. Yeah, I bet. Wow. We beat you. Yeah, you did. Badly. Yeah.
00:52:34You really, what happened to teaming up? Set them up and knock them down. I set you up and then I
00:52:38knocked you down. Oh man. You are running the risk of another rift in the building. This is fun.
00:52:44It's fun. All right, here we go. We're going to go again. We're going to take this one
00:52:49all the way into the outfield. Ready. 47, 47, 79.
00:52:58Probably 15. No, no. Good night everyone. And thanks again, Jimmy, for the burgers.
00:53:06I expect an extra large slice of pie as payback. Oh, I'll talk to the boss. Oh no, not the pickle.
00:53:15I'll walk you out. Natalie is very special, Mark. Well, like I said, I'm keeping it professional.
00:53:25I know the rule. You know, if I've learned anything, it's a life is too short. Seriously?
00:53:33I broke that rule one time and it cost you everything you had. You know, we never really
00:53:43talked about what happened at the building back then. Not really. And that's on me.
00:53:49I know exactly what happened. I did something reckless and stupid. I mean, I should have said
00:53:55this to you years ago. You've been carrying all that weight. But hey, I'm okay. I really am.
00:54:04I really am. You should know that.
00:54:10And I know a good thing when I see it. And she's wonderful, so.
00:54:16What a fun night. Thank you for the invitation. Well, hey, any Mark of friends. Okay.
00:54:24Well, I got a question, Mr. Wallace. Jimmy. Jimmy, thank you. So Mark told me that when
00:54:31he graduated from high school, you stopped being the super in the building.
00:54:35What's that about? Did you just need a change of pace or?
00:54:42Wait, did I say something I wasn't supposed to say? No, no, no, no, no, no. It's okay. It's okay.
00:54:47No, dad loved being a super. He didn't need a change of pace at all, but he had one golden rule.
00:54:54Yeah. Listen, people have to trust us because we have the keys to their homes.
00:54:59So keep it professional. There was a couple of sisters that lived in the building,
00:55:06Clara and Lorraine. And one day they got into a big fight over something and Lorraine
00:55:13kicked Clara out and she didn't have anything, didn't have clothes or didn't have anything.
00:55:19And Clara asked her if she could come back in and she said no. So she went to dad
00:55:23and she asked for his master key. And he said, no, like he should have. But I was 18 and
00:55:34thought I knew better. You were a kid. You were barely out of high school. I was the grownup. I,
00:55:41I didn't handle it very well. So you let her into the condo. She just wanted what was hers.
00:55:47And then she stole everything but the doorknobs. And they blamed Mark. And they tried, but, uh,
00:55:55no, it was, it was dad who took the fall. HOA fired him. That was it. That's terrible.
00:56:06Yeah. And I was tired of unclogging shower drains anyways.
00:56:10You need to let this go, son.
00:56:16All right, we better get this stuff packed up. Come on, Mark. Give me a hand.
00:56:41So
00:57:01You know, I didn't tell me anything. No, it's a surprise. Okay.
00:57:03Wait, I'm scared. You're good. You're good. Okay. Pause. Okay. Door holding for the door.
00:57:11Easy. Easy. I gotcha. Okay. No peeking. Okay. No peeking. No, I'm not. I'm not peeking. And peeking.
00:57:23What? Wait, what is this? Uh, this is me winning.
00:57:28Are these the decorations from the storage room? We did the lobby too.
00:57:32I told you they wanted this. Oh, you were right.
00:57:35Is this my chili? Mark gave me the recipe he got from you. I hope I did it justice.
00:57:41I'm sure it's delicious, Shanti. Thank you. Liz and I put up the decorations. Together?
00:57:47It looks beautiful. Andrea, look at all these pies. Awesome, right? More like felsen.
00:57:55She's a keeper. Enjoy the party, everyone. You know where to find me.
00:58:00Great job. What is this? Well, thanks, Treya. You could say that I was feeling inspired to
00:58:08help out a little. So I found some old furniture left behind by some of the residents and
00:58:14took a little of this and a little of that and, uh...
00:58:20Wow. You made this? I did. I thought it could be a symbol of what it means to be a community.
00:58:28A collection of mismatched pieces that come together to make something pretty, uh, incredible.
00:58:39No, no, no, no, no, no.
00:58:44Is that my headboard? Uh, it was, Chuck. Yeah, it was. And, um, that's your sheet. Oh, okay.
00:58:52Well done. Thanks, man. Appreciate it. Way to go, sweetie. Thank you. Thanks for your help.
00:58:57All right. You win. I did, didn't I? Definitely. There's more. What? But the rest is up to you.
00:59:05What does that mean? Well, you said you needed a team.
00:59:08I'd say that's a pretty good-looking team.
00:59:25You know, honestly, I didn't think you could pull this off,
00:59:28getting everyone together like this. You doubted me. Yes, yes, I did. Although,
00:59:33truthfully, I really doubted them. If you can do this, you can do anything.
00:59:37That's pretty great. Is Sylvia here?
00:59:45Maybe one more thing to fix.
00:59:54Sylvia. Hi, Syl. Hi. We're having a party down in the common room. Oh, I know, dear.
01:00:00I can hear you. In fact... Sylvia, the entire rest of the board is already there.
01:00:06We'd love it if you joined us. No, I don't really go to parties anymore.
01:00:09You used to? Oh, did she ever?
01:00:12I used to host them back when my husband was still around and we knew everybody in the building.
01:00:17Well, you could still know everybody in the building. Everybody's down there.
01:00:20No, he don't want me at your party. We wouldn't be here if we didn't want you at our party.
01:00:26Is there pie? Is there pie?
01:00:28We have all the pie. We got so much pie.
01:00:31Okay. I love pie.
01:00:34And that is why the Walk to End Alzheimer's is the perfect opportunity for
01:00:39all of us to come together as a community to support an important cause.
01:00:45So, who's with me?
01:01:02Me.
01:01:06I'm in.
01:01:08Sure.
01:01:11Me too.
01:01:12I'm in.
01:01:14Yeah.
01:01:15Me.
01:01:15Yeah.
01:01:20This is awesome.
01:01:23Up top.
01:01:36That's not bad, huh?
01:01:37So good, right? It's perfect.
01:01:38No, no, the pie. I mean, yeah, the pie. But no, I mean like...
01:01:41That's the whole thing.
01:01:43Yeah, it's pretty perfect.
01:01:44Pretty good.
01:01:46Listen, I want to... Oh, sorry.
01:01:48No.
01:01:50I just thought it was in my head.
01:01:52Okay, we're both speaking at the same time. I'm going to let you talk.
01:01:57I like you.
01:02:01I, uh, I like you too.
01:02:04You do?
01:02:04I really do.
01:02:08That seems like a good place to start.
01:02:12Really?
01:02:15Yeah.
01:02:16I'm sorry, just give me one second.
01:02:18Sure, yeah, no, take it, take it, take it.
01:02:21Linda.
01:02:21Hi.
01:02:22Hey.
01:02:23Yes, I did. I found a team. I can register them tonight.
01:02:26I need the paperwork.
01:02:27Oh, you do right now?
01:02:28Yeah.
01:02:29Okay.
01:02:29You're not busy, are you?
01:02:30No, I'm not busy at all.
01:02:32How about the office?
01:02:33Perfect. All right, I'll see you soon.
01:02:35Okay, great. Bye.
01:02:36Okay, bye.
01:02:39I'm so sorry.
01:02:40Yeah.
01:02:40I have to, I, I just have to drop something over to Linda.
01:02:43Sure, I get it.
01:02:44But I'll, I'll be right back.
01:02:45I'll be right here.
01:02:45Okay, hold that kiss.
01:02:47No, hold that thought.
01:02:49Good save.
01:02:50Thank you. Okay, I'll be back.
01:02:59Do you know where Linda is?
01:03:01Oh, thanks.
01:03:02Hi.
01:03:05Linda.
01:03:06Hey.
01:03:07I got my whole team registered. Everyone's so excited.
01:03:10I just can't figure it out.
01:03:12What? Who is that?
01:03:14Which one?
01:03:16Her.
01:03:19I know her.
01:03:26Linda, that's you.
01:03:31Oh.
01:03:32Oh, right.
01:03:36Wow.
01:03:36Wow.
01:03:38Just when you think you have everything under control, life shows you you don't.
01:03:43No, no.
01:03:45It's okay.
01:03:48Hey, what does my t-shirt say?
01:03:52Life is ooh, hoot.
01:03:58Life is too short.
01:04:00Right.
01:04:01We just can't waste it getting upset about things we can't control, okay?
01:04:06Don't waste it, Natalie.
01:04:10Absolutely not.
01:04:13Can you guys just listen to each other?
01:04:14You're not even listening to each other.
01:04:15You are listening to me.
01:04:16I'm not listening to you either.
01:04:17You are so self-selfish.
01:04:19I was just saying that I think the bench would look nice in the breezeway.
01:04:23We could make it a garden.
01:04:25But that's where Lola's new doggie station is.
01:04:28Guys, I think we can accommodate both.
01:04:30No?
01:04:31With that dog, there's no room for anything else.
01:04:33No offense, Lola.
01:04:35I am simply suggesting that one bench is not symmetrical.
01:04:39Technically, it shouldn't even exist.
01:04:41The HOA never gave approval.
01:04:43This garden, are we talking flowers or vegetables?
01:04:46Because pollen might be a problem.
01:04:47Whatever type of garden we do, I can help make it.
01:04:49Really?
01:04:50Well, you already took enough time off making chili for this thing.
01:04:53It was an hour.
01:04:54Wait, why don't we all just take a deep breath?
01:04:57I knew this was a bad idea.
01:04:58I did.
01:04:59This is no party.
01:05:00This was just an excuse for you to get us all here so that we could help you with your
01:05:02volunteer thing, Natalie.
01:05:04Yep, this was a huge waste of time.
01:05:06What?
01:05:06It's true.
01:05:07And you know what?
01:05:08Things ran a whole lot smoother before she moved in.
01:05:10All right.
01:05:11All right.
01:05:11Hold on, everybody.
01:05:12Hold on.
01:05:13We were just trying to have a little community.
01:05:16I'm sure you had nothing but good intentions, dear.
01:05:19But as the president of the HOA board, I'm going to have to give you an official warning.
01:05:26Okay, I'm not giving you an official warning.
01:05:28I'm going to give you an official verbal warning.
01:05:30Going around the HOA is not acceptable.
01:05:34We don't want a repeat of what happened with your father.
01:05:37Mercy.
01:05:39You can forget about the walk.
01:05:41I can't stand another minute of these people.
01:05:45I'm with her.
01:05:46I mean, I'm not with her at all, but you know what I mean.
01:05:49But it's such a good cause.
01:05:51No, I'll just write you a check.
01:06:04Lola, come!
01:06:04I don't understand.
01:06:16I was gone for an hour.
01:06:18If we could just make them see...
01:06:20Would you please stop?
01:06:21Well, I'm sure that if everyone could just get into one room...
01:06:23Natalie, stop.
01:06:27I shouldn't have got involved.
01:06:28I got involved and I shouldn't have got involved.
01:06:30This wouldn't have happened.
01:06:31We can fix this.
01:06:33No, we can't, Natalie.
01:06:35We can't fix this.
01:06:37Some things are just too broken.
01:06:40Wait.
01:06:41No, I don't believe that.
01:06:44I don't want to believe that.
01:06:47I do.
01:06:48What?
01:06:51What?
01:07:02No, I think moving here might have been a huge mistake.
01:07:05Oh, come on, Natalie.
01:07:06Once you start your job, I'm sure you'll meet all sorts of people.
01:07:09You don't have to be friends with your neighbors.
01:07:11No, it's more than that.
01:07:13I almost got Mark fired.
01:07:14I disappointed Linda.
01:07:16Nobody is speaking to anybody else in the building.
01:07:18I tried to make everything better, but I just...
01:07:21I made everything worse.
01:07:23Did I mention Mark?
01:07:24You did.
01:07:25And Mark sounds great.
01:07:27But maybe take this as a sign.
01:07:29After the walk, I think you should take the next few weeks before you start your job
01:07:33and focus on yourself for a change.
01:07:35Some serious new time.
01:07:36That's what Mark always says to me.
01:07:39Maybe this building is a lost cause.
01:07:41You know what isn't?
01:07:43This Alzheimer's walk.
01:07:45It is just so inspiring.
01:07:47I want to be the best volunteer they've ever had.
01:07:50Oh, you know what?
01:07:50I gotta run.
01:07:51Linda's here.
01:07:51I'll talk to you soon.
01:07:53Hey, Linda.
01:07:54Hey, I just...
01:07:55I wanted to say I'm so sorry for not being able to get together a last minute team.
01:08:00It's okay.
01:08:01It was a tall order.
01:08:02I'm gonna make it up to you.
01:08:03Well, you've done plenty.
01:08:06Look, why don't you just, you know, be in the moment.
01:08:10Here, today.
01:08:11Take it all in.
01:08:12Well, today is not about me.
01:08:13It's about everyone else.
01:08:19Listen, I'm here if you need me.
01:08:22You know, for anything.
01:08:24And I don't just mean today.
01:08:27I mean, like, always, if you need anything.
01:08:32Okay?
01:08:35Um, I gotta get these pinwheels over to Vera.
01:08:39I'll see you out there.
01:08:40Okay.
01:08:44Hit me again.
01:08:51We have a three-piece limit.
01:08:52Here at the Pie Palace, we believe in pying responsibly.
01:08:59I'm sure we'll all blow over.
01:09:01I don't know, Andrea.
01:09:04I got involved.
01:09:05I shouldn't have got involved.
01:09:06I should have kept it professional.
01:09:09Being professional doesn't mean that you don't help fix the broken stuff.
01:09:13Doesn't mean that you don't care.
01:09:14And clearly, you care.
01:09:19About Natalie.
01:09:21I'm talking about Natalie.
01:09:24Excuse me.
01:09:25Could I get some salt?
01:09:27Yeah.
01:09:35I'm an out.
01:09:43I don't know, but I don't think this is the right...
01:10:00Well, we'll see.
01:10:01Let's see.
01:10:02Is it on?
01:10:04Guys!
01:10:05Oh, hey, Mark.
01:10:07Can we borrow your tools?
01:10:08I tried fixing this with glue, but I think it's a little more advanced than that.
01:10:13Lola got a little excited.
01:10:15Yeah, of course.
01:10:16This is...
01:10:21But actually, there's something I'd like you to help me fix first.
01:10:24What's up?
01:10:43Good morning, Pittsburgh!
01:10:48Welcome to the Walk to End Alzheimer's!
01:10:53My name is Linda Payne, and I'm the coordinator for today's event.
01:10:59I would like to thank some people, including
01:11:03Dear Vero, without whom none of this would have happened.
01:11:09All our wonderful volunteers.
01:11:11They all went well above and beyond.
01:11:14In fact, there is one I would like you to meet.
01:11:17Natalie, come on up here.
01:11:24Natalie is one of our most enthusiastic volunteers.
01:11:27She actually found us this lovely location at CMU's campus when the zoo fell through,
01:11:32and I would love to hear a few words about what she's learned right now.
01:11:37Oh, yeah.
01:11:39Okay.
01:11:40No, I really love giving speeches, so this is okay.
01:11:43Hi, everybody.
01:11:44My name is Natalie Calder, and I was supposed to be walking with a team today,
01:11:51but instead, I'm walking solo.
01:11:55It's okay.
01:11:57Here's what I see.
01:12:00Life is short.
01:12:03It's too short to not do the things that bring you joy.
01:12:08I thought I was doing that by trying so hard to create a community around me when
01:12:15the truth is there was one right in front of me.
01:12:23So today, I'm going to walk.
01:12:27I'm going to make friends.
01:12:28I'm going to meet new people.
01:12:30I'm going to look at these beautiful leaves that aren't changing.
01:12:35I'm going to breathe in that crisp autumn air.
01:12:39Those are the things that I am doing for me because that's what brings me joy.
01:12:51Can I walk with you?
01:12:56Oh.
01:13:02What are you doing here?
01:13:05Oh.
01:13:06Someone asked for the salt.
01:13:08You what?
01:13:09I was at the diner, and someone asked for the salt, and I, I don't know.
01:13:13I just got it for them.
01:13:14I didn't think about it, and I didn't intend to.
01:13:16I just, you know, I just helped them.
01:13:20You passed the salt?
01:13:21I did.
01:13:25It was because of you.
01:13:27You changed me.
01:13:30Actually, you changed a few other people as well.
01:13:34Come on, guys.
01:13:36No way.
01:13:38We like to make an entrance.
01:13:40How did you do this?
01:13:42Well, someone reminded me that you can't go through life just sitting on the sidelines.
01:13:51Natalie.
01:13:51Oh.
01:13:55I forgot what I was doing.
01:13:57Ladies and gentlemen, I'd like to introduce you to my team.
01:14:02I have a team.
01:14:04I have a team.
01:14:07The promise garden is our way to demonstrate our personal connection to Alzheimer's.
01:14:14Please raise a purple flower to honor someone you've lost.
01:14:22Yellow if you're caring for someone with Alzheimer's.
01:14:35Blue for those who are living with Alzheimer's or dementia.
01:14:43Orange flowers are for our advocates and our supporters.
01:14:51And this single white flower represents the future first survivor of Alzheimer's.
01:15:00So who's ready to walk?
01:15:13I've got all your files organized and tomorrow I'm going to clean up your calendar.
01:15:17It's a mess.
01:15:18I might have to give you a raise but only if we can talk financial planning.
01:15:22It's never too soon to start.
