00:00Previously, Backyard and Pool Week blasted off with over 100 extra tradies on site.
00:07Everyone had sort of mentioned to us that has done the block before how crazy Landscaping
00:12Week was, which we didn't discover until Monday actually hit.
00:17And with the combined backyards totaling a massive 2,269 square metres, we have the biggest
00:23spaces to fill and the most pandemonium and chaos on the block this season.
00:29The size, the amount of excavation that we have to do here is out of control.
00:32This is a six to eight week job that we're doing in six days.
00:36Then last night, it was Maddie and Charlotte's turn to host the weekly chumps dinner for
00:41the losing teams.
00:42For a lovely, wholesome, really bonding family meal.
00:49Until...
00:50Kylie accused them of being deceitful, representing themselves as accountants instead of property
00:58flippers.
00:59I said, what do you guys do?
01:00And Maddie just took over the conversation and you never turned around and said, oh,
01:04actually, no, like I work as an accountant, but that's not actually what I do.
01:07They thought that that was all a lie.
01:11And we actually are just property flippers.
01:13And I'm like, no, no, no, no.
01:15Yes, we do property flipping.
01:16Yes, we do accounting work.
01:18Yes, I do that.
01:19Yes, we do babysitting.
01:20Yes, I babysit.
01:21Yes, I do some marketing.
01:22Like, I would you like me to give you my CV?
01:26You 100% said, because you also said we work in accounting.
01:29Which means you shouldn't, you should just 100% be honest and be like, well, it's not
01:32that we were not honest.
01:34And then the conversation just kind of kept going around in circles and it just wasn't
01:39going anywhere.
01:40Like, we're literally, we're 22 and 24.
01:42I'm not qualified to be in that space.
01:45Don't need to deal with f****** wires, my God.
01:56It's backyard and pool week on the block, but you wouldn't know it out here.
02:03It's good to touch the green, green grass of home.
02:10Hello, sweetheart.
02:14Last night, Courtney and Grant had a winner's night away at Currajong Estate Winery with
02:21myself and past contestants, Dale and Sophia, from the Block 2012.
02:25Our pleasure.
02:26And this morning, they have woken up in the Gippsland countryside.
02:31My gosh, there's been a bit of drama last night.
02:35What do you mean?
02:36What drama?
02:37Kylie and the girls have had an argument.
02:39What, with Maddie and Charlotte?
02:42Yeah.
02:43I still don't understand what everyone's problem was with what they did before this,
02:47but we all have to work.
02:49Yeah.
02:50It's not a big deal.
02:55I woke up very sad.
02:58I didn't really sleep very well.
03:01And I just was a bit like, it almost felt like a bit heartbroken.
03:05That sounds dramatic, but like, just really sad.
03:08What they're accusing us of is just not who we are.
03:11Kylie, you know, for the minute we saw her, like, didn't even acknowledge our presence.
03:18When we first came in, it was kind of probably going to make us seem like liars,
03:24but that was never our intention, nor did we believe that we did lie.
03:29We just weren't giving away free information unless people asked.
03:34I just really care about people.
03:36It just makes me so sad that they don't care about us.
03:44Let's go!
03:49This is one of the most crowded, congested, busy block backyard weeks we've ever tackled.
03:54There's only one road in, hundreds of tradies, trucks, earth-moving vehicles,
03:59and non-stop deliveries.
04:01It's chaos.
04:05Let's get ridiculous!
04:14Over at house five, near the entrance to the block,
04:16Christian and Mimi have the biggest backyard at 552 square metres.
04:23One side of their backyard, there'll be a pool and timber deck.
04:27Behind it is an entertaining area with a smoker.
04:31And on the other side of the house,
04:33a basketball court next to a stone bench seating area with a fire pit.
04:40Day two, so Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday are huge,
04:42and today's no different than yesterday.
04:44We have to dig and prep and pour our basketball court.
04:47I have to do all the footings for our fire pit.
04:50I have to do all the subfloor for our decks.
04:53And we've got boys paving as well, so a big day.
04:56And as it is, nine and six are having to cart out all the dirt that we excavated out yesterday.
05:00So another big day, yes.
05:03Troy has an army, and we appreciate that,
05:06because it allows us to, you know, focus on, you know,
05:10me with styling, Christian finishing the rest of the house.
05:13I mean, like, for example, today I got the whole office painted,
05:16with the upstairs bedroom painted,
05:18which means that we can start, you know, styling that.
05:21It's a weight off our shoulders, you know, so it's really nice.
05:24Come here at the start of the week and think about what you've got to get done.
05:27It's impossible. It's impossible.
05:29It's going to turn impossible into a reality.
05:32So a week at a time per day, yes.
05:35Troy likes to push things to the very limit.
05:40And I like that.
05:45At House 1, near the front of the block,
05:48Maddie and Charlotte have 448 square metres to landscape.
05:53They are planning to have a deck straight off the back door
05:56with an outdoor kitchen, dining and lounge area.
05:59There's a fire pit area with a bench seat and a pizza oven.
06:04Then on the other side of the yard,
06:06a small basketball court and lawn area where the kids can play.
06:10Maddie and Charlotte have a team of seven landscapers,
06:13and they are led by young gun Ryan,
06:16who delivered Eliza and Liberty's backyard last year.
06:19Today we're working on the pool,
06:21doing the pool coping and pool tiling.
06:23We've got the chippies doing the deck for us,
06:25so they're smashing that out.
06:26And then we've got a couple of our guys
06:28doing the crazy paving for our pizza oven
06:30and just starting to clear out everything else for turf and plants.
06:34And right now, Charlotte's only just started working out
06:37the design of her barbecue area with her builder, Daniel.
06:41Yeah, I feel like fridge over this side.
06:43Barbie shelf.
06:46Yeah, because then you can have a bench top above the fridge.
06:50And then sink maybe, yeah, in that corner.
06:52The landscapers and the carpenters
06:54seem like they're all chugging away.
06:56I'm in here planning, picking out lightings
06:59and designing the barbecue area
07:01and sending off drawings to the engineer.
07:03Just getting the jobs that we need to get done
07:06and keep moving on.
07:08No point dwelling in it.
07:12Hello.
07:13Hello.
07:14What's going on?
07:16Not a whole lot.
07:17Doing some planning.
07:18I was talking to Mimi, and because you and Maddie
07:20have been having a bit of a tough time,
07:22we were just wondering if you wanted to go
07:24get something to eat tonight.
07:26That would be so nice.
07:27Go to the pub or go to Italian or whatever?
07:30Moffa.
07:31Alright.
07:32Yeah, that's so sweet.
07:33So we can get out of here for an hour or two.
07:35Sounds good.
07:36Thank you, Christian.
07:37No worries.
07:38We appreciate you guys.
07:39Yeah.
07:40Nah, we do what we can.
07:42Thanks.
07:43Happy planning.
07:44You too.
07:45See ya.
07:46Bye.
07:47Mimi and Christian have been really nice
07:49for the last little while.
07:51They've been, yeah, been looking out for us,
07:54so we appreciate that.
07:56We feel good to get out and about.
08:01Coming up, Grant fights the clock
08:04and blocks supervisor Aiden.
08:06Well, how'd you think it was eight?
08:07Well, we already told seven.
08:08You made it up.
08:09We already told seven.
08:10Who said it was eight?
08:11Who said it was seven?
08:12To get concrete poured for a crucial backyard feature.
08:15It was either pay for concrete that doesn't get poured
08:18or take the risk and pay anyway, so, you know.
08:21And a peace offering to Maddie and Charlotte
08:23is served up in the form of an intimate dinner.
08:26Feel like you can actually reach out to either Courtney or I.
08:29Yeah, I want that.
08:31I had to get up for the day cos I had stuff to do,
08:48so I had a shower and got on the road and had another cry.
08:52I think just when you spend a lot of time on your own
09:01like driving and just like sitting there and thinking,
09:05it's been quite sad, I'd say.
09:09But I ended up seeing Mimi, which was really nice.
09:15She's been really lovely.
09:17She came and checked on us last night
09:19and just kind of like, you know,
09:21shared that like she really cares about us
09:23and yeah, and she wants to be our friend.
09:31I think when they kind of voiced that
09:34they felt quite lonely like with their time here,
09:38that upset me even though, you know, I have part in that.
09:42Imagine if there's just, they have no one to reach out to.
09:46That'd be pretty ****.
09:48How are you?
09:49Oh, you know, not too bad.
09:51Do you feel better today? A little bit? No?
09:54You don't have to?
09:55Not really, but that's all right. I'm getting there.
09:57I've cried many times, but that's okay.
10:00It takes time.
10:01Yeah, it takes time.
10:02Let yourself feel what you need to feel.
10:03Yeah. Process it.
10:04And I think driving alone doesn't help.
10:06So I'm just like, what's going on?
10:09I felt like it was the first time
10:11that I properly got to connect with her
10:14because I think she's gone through her own self-reflection.
10:22Today I went to Glen Iris to go to Design 10
10:25to pick my decking.
10:26All right, so we've got a range of decking boards here.
10:28We've obviously got our wider and narrow boards
10:30in a bunch of different species.
10:31We've got like your spotted gum, your blackbark.
10:33You've got the options for the more darker boards
10:35with the kind of reddy tones.
10:36Yeah.
10:37And then we've also got your lighter boards
10:39in the blackbark and white stringybark down there
10:41for whatever you guys want.
10:42Obviously using this for outside in terms of a decking,
10:45what kind of look are you going for?
10:46Kitchen area, our sitting area, our dining area.
10:48So like it's just a huge deck
10:49and then we have like a little deck out the front
10:51and a little deck outside our main bedroom.
10:54My house is like super coastal and chill,
10:58so like lighter is my vibe.
11:00I don't want it to like pull too much orange.
11:03I think out of all of them, I like the spotted gum.
11:07I like the wider boards.
11:09Would it be possible to see it like when it's outside
11:12in the natural light?
11:13Yeah, for sure.
11:14We could head outside to have a look
11:15to see what it looks like in the lighting outside
11:16because they obviously will vary in the lighting
11:18in here for sure.
11:19So then you've got the blackbark here,
11:20which you can see.
11:21Yeah, see that's what I thought it would look like.
11:23And that kind of lighting out there
11:24looks completely different then.
11:25I'm not trying to right my wrongs.
11:28I just want them to come out of this
11:32feeling like they have people to talk to.
11:34So you're all sorted.
11:35Everything's already sorted.
11:36Yeah, go girl.
11:40This year our landscaping guru, Dave Franklin,
11:42is back with his team of landscapers
11:44and they've been working on the common area of the block,
11:47building a tropical resort style entertainment area
11:50with palm trees, pool, spa and tennis courts.
11:55And right now he's buying pool tarps.
11:57I'm thinking these two here.
11:59Yeah.
12:00Along with a lot of outdoor lighting.
12:02Yeah, so I'm going to say I'm going to need
12:05probably 60 of those.
12:06Okay.
12:07And I need path lights,
12:08probably some of these path lights.
12:10And if we can grab a couple of wall lights as well,
12:13I reckon I'm done.
12:14Perfect.
12:15And these are all coastal rated as well,
12:17so perfect for down there.
12:21At the end of the road down the back of the block is House 4,
12:26where Kylie and Brad have the smallest backyard,
12:28which is 378 square metres.
12:33Out the back, Kylie and Brad want to have a grassy area
12:36for their private entrance to the communal tennis court.
12:39Then there's a pathway up the side of the yard
12:41to a tiled plungy pool with a timber boardwalk.
12:44Plus pavers running up beside the house
12:47and behind it is a fire pit area that runs off the main bedroom.
12:58Outside on the road, there's a delivery backlog.
13:01Brad's crush rock has been sitting in a truck
13:03for two and a half hours
13:05and the driver's about to pull the pin.
13:07BJ's going to turn around and we're not going to get our crush rock.
13:11He asked where we wanted it and we told him...
13:14Can you come up and let's sort this out?
13:16I need him in now cos he's cracking it
13:18and we're not going to be able to pull a conk.
13:20Hey, this crush rock's still not in from 9pm.
13:22The crush rock is coming in now. I've been dropping it down there.
13:27No-one's dropped any rock down to us.
13:29House 4? Yep.
13:31Do we get a delivery in here from the garden supplies?
13:34No. OK, so then my delivery's still out on the road, then?
13:37Yes. OK, so that's what I'm saying.
13:39It hasn't been brought in here. But you're getting rock.
13:42But I've got to get him in because he's still waiting.
13:44There's a thousand more deliveries to go. I understand that.
13:46He's from the garden supplies. He's not from the supplier.
13:48I get that. Everyone's in the same boat.
13:50We'll get your rock in. I've been feeding your landscaper's rock.
13:52But I respect that. I respect that.
13:54Look, we've got to work together, OK? OK.
13:569.30 they had him on. 9.30, we were on the board.
13:58So did everybody.
14:00On the board, there was only one 9.30.
14:02A whiteboard, there was only one 9.30.
14:04I'll get him in there now. Yeah.
14:08After the traffic jam chaos yesterday,
14:11Foreman Dan's put up a whiteboard
14:13for contestants to schedule their deliveries.
14:16But it hasn't gone to plan.
14:18What's the point of the board?
14:20Yeah, well, the boats will throw the board out.
14:22Not working.
14:24BJ, I'm so sorry, mate.
14:26I'm so sorry, man.
14:28We're just going to back it here.
14:37We followed 9 and 6's schedule.
14:39We did everything as per the whiteboard.
14:42And our delivery still waited two and a half hours
14:44out the front.
14:46And the delivery took five minutes.
14:48Now the boys aren't going to be able to
14:50pour the concrete that we needed to pour today.
14:53So we'll try our best to try and stay on track.
14:57But it's going to be tomorrow's problem.
14:59And if we can't get down the driveway,
15:01there's going to be a lot of problems.
15:04WHISTLE BLOWS
15:08Let's go!
15:10To celebrate 20 fabulous seasons of The Block,
15:12head online to catch up with your favourite Block all-stars.
15:15And check out The Block shop for great deals
15:18on this season's winning design ideas.
15:21It's all at The Block website.
15:28In House 5, Christian and Mimi's basketball court
15:30is being poured and prepped.
15:32How big's this? What's this like?
15:34Nine by six.
15:36There's a proper three-point line, proper foul line,
15:38so all that's to scale.
15:40Even though they're very popular, these basketball courts,
15:43the kids still want to be able to shoot properly
15:46from a foul line and a three-point line.
15:48So anything underneath that, they don't really like it.
15:51So I always try and make sure that we have a foul line
15:54and a three-point line.
15:56The benefit of ours being so big is that
15:58it can be a multi-purpose thing.
16:00It doesn't have to be all for basketball.
16:02You can keep the soccer ball in there or the footy or, you know.
16:05So, it's awesome.
16:12Courtney and Grant are in House 2 in the middle of The Block
16:15and they have 403 square metres of backyard.
16:19Right outside their back door will be a covered deck
16:22with outdoor kitchen, dining table and lounge area,
16:25a pizza oven to the side, then a concrete bench seat
16:28and paved area for their fire pit.
16:30At the other end of the yard, there'll be a pool and sun deck
16:33as well as another seating area with an outdoor fireplace.
16:44The concrete bench seat in House 2, all been approved with the steel.
16:47It's very neat the way the boys have done it. Really good to see.
16:50The only issue we're facing here is concrete.
16:52It's 1.30 now.
16:54Concrete should be here getting poured because we've got setting times.
16:57This has got to set today.
16:58Then the boys have got to strip it, then trowel finish it.
17:00So, they've got to pour it, let it set.
17:03I don't know how many hours that is.
17:05Strip it all, trowel finish.
17:07Off site by 6.30pm tonight.
17:10It's getting tight.
17:16Are you serious?
17:17Yeah.
17:18So, it looks like probably 7 o'clock shut tonight.
17:24So, your truck's here now.
17:26Yeah.
17:27We're going to put it on you guys. It's up to you whether you want to pour.
17:30But either way, if they're not finished and they need to trowel,
17:33they have to leave site. They can't stay.
17:35So, it's a call you guys have got to make. It's a tough one.
17:37It's very late in the day to be doing it
17:39because we don't know how long it's going to take to set for them to strip it.
17:42And then they've got to burnish finish it, which could take hours.
17:47Burnished concrete is a form of polished concrete
17:50and the process will take longer than normal
17:53because once it's set, it needs to be troweled to achieve a smooth finish.
17:59Pour it now. It's going to take three hours to set.
18:01How do we deliver a backyard in a week if we can't work behind?
18:04I don't know.
18:05Seriously?
18:06Yeah. It's up to you guys.
18:08Alright.
18:09It's going to be risky.
18:12It's a risk.
18:13Yeah, I know. I don't know what to do.
18:24You've done burnished concrete before?
18:26No, no, I haven't. The boys wanted to do it
18:28because we thought it was 8 o'clock
18:30and if we don't, we're wasting the concrete anyway.
18:32We're paying for it.
18:33It's 3.30. It won't be poured until 4.30.
18:37I know.
18:38Which means it won't be able to be stripped until maybe 7.30, 6.30.
18:42It was either that or we don't pay for it.
18:44Sorry, it was either that or we pass it on.
18:45That's my opinion, but, you know.
18:47What time can we go to?
18:49Because we thought it was 8.00.
18:50Well, how did you think it was 8.00?
18:52You made it up.
18:53Who said it was 8.00? Who said it was 7.00?
18:55It could be 8.00.
18:56Who said it was 7.00 or 8.00?
18:57It was 7.00.
18:58Well, ****.
19:006.30.
19:01I said maybe 7.00, maybe 8.00.
19:04The boys are just pouring the seat now.
19:06It's a bit of a risk because they're going to be forced to go offside at 7.00.
19:10So, if the seat doesn't sort of set in time,
19:13then they can't pull it off where, not ****,
19:15but the seat won't be what we thought it was.
19:17I'm sure they'll give us some extra time just to finish it.
19:20No, they won't.
19:23We rolled the dice.
19:24We decided to pour when the truck arrived,
19:26and if it didn't roll our way,
19:28then we'd have to come up with another finish on that concrete bench.
19:34It was either pay for concrete that doesn't get poured
19:37or take the risk and pay anyway.
19:39So, you know, yeah.
19:42It's drying.
19:46I need more of these or...
19:49Don't you know that one wasn't built in a day?
19:53Hey, hey, hey.
19:59Looks nice.
20:01Very nice.
20:02It was always going to be a gamble,
20:04but I'm just glad it's paid off.
20:06Yeah.
20:07So, once again, told you so, Dan.
20:11Hang on, hang on, hang on.
20:14All in all, it came out really well.
20:16So, concrete's there.
20:17The boys used the heater, they troweled it,
20:20they did the polishing and all that.
20:22It's going to look awesome.
20:23We're very, very grateful.
20:30I just want to go back to normal life.
20:32Oddly, once it airs,
20:34I don't think you're ever going to have a normal life.
20:36Tonight, we will go to dinner with Maddie and Charlotte
20:40and potentially Pauline and Grant as well,
20:42depending on how they feel, which will be fun.
20:46Maddie!
20:47I'm coming.
20:48No, now.
20:49Five minutes.
20:50You haven't said that for ages.
20:51Bring the car down.
20:53You're like, I know.
20:56So, she said that she'd invited the girls out
20:58because she felt a bit bad about what happened Monday night,
21:01and she just didn't want them to feel alienated,
21:04so she thought it'd be a good idea to take them out to dinner.
21:07Like, I think it's good.
21:08Like, I'm glad that she's the bigger person
21:10and can do something like that.
21:13Go to the girls.
21:14You need nice Mimi.
21:17I'm always nice Mimi.
21:18No, I know.
21:19That's why you're going and not me,
21:20because I'd be like...
21:23I just don't want them to come out
21:25and feel like they have no one to talk to,
21:27because that'd be...
21:28Exactly.
21:29So, go, because you're the only one that will listen.
21:32We're not going to hate you.
21:33We're not going to hate you.
21:35Oh, my God.
21:36Be friends with whoever.
21:39Traitor.
21:40No, I'm kidding.
21:42See you, guys.
21:43See you, Christian. We love you.
21:45Love you, too. Have a lovely evening.
21:47Oh, she is.
21:51I heard they'd been, like, crying,
21:53and they didn't feel like they had a spot here,
21:56so I just thought it would be nice for them
21:58to sort of get off site
22:00and maybe just, you know,
22:02have an open chat to us about how they're feeling.
22:05I feel like out of all the couples,
22:07they probably trust us the most
22:08and, you know, would probably open up to us the most.
22:10You know, this is probably going to be the biggest season
22:12where they have to beep out so many words,
22:14because I swear, every single one of you
22:16say the F word every five seconds.
22:18You're either f***ed off, nor f***ed on.
22:22So, we went to dinner, and we invited Courtney and Grant,
22:25because they're, like, another couple
22:26that they sort of get along with.
22:28Anyway, I guess, moral of the story,
22:30we, like, we are sorry.
22:33We don't apologise at all.
22:35You got nothing to apologise for with me.
22:37And, like, also, just to let you know,
22:39our experience was, like,
22:40tiny little miner's cottage,
22:42where we, like, are, like, painting the walls white.
22:45We have done multiple houses, but that was...
22:47If anyone asked, that was never...
22:48You don't need to explain s***, honestly.
22:50Like...
22:51Hey, guys.
22:52Hi, boys.
22:53Sorry we're late.
22:54Sorry we're late.
22:55That's OK.
22:56And Rikki and Hayden walk in,
22:57and then they're like,
22:58oh, sorry we're late,
22:59and Mimi's like, I never invited you.
23:01You weren't even invited.
23:03Sorry.
23:04Are you hungry?
23:05We clearly knew you were here.
23:06Are you hungry?
23:07Do you want some chibis?
23:08No, I'm actually...
23:09I had a great light and easy.
23:10Oh.
23:11Cheers, cheers.
23:12We've come a long way since Sunday night.
23:14Amazing.
23:16Well, I feel like the six of us going out,
23:18so house five, two, and one,
23:20going out wasn't excluding people,
23:23like, singly out,
23:24because there was two couples missing.
23:26So then when Rikki and Hayden were there,
23:28and then there was only Kylie and Brad weren't there,
23:30we were like, oh,
23:31now it looks like we're excluding them,
23:34which was never...
23:35For us, like,
23:36obviously is the worst thing,
23:38because we've been excluded for the last however many weeks.
23:41I just hope that when you come home,
23:43you'll feel like you can actually reach out
23:45to, like, either Courtney or I.
23:47Yeah, I want that.
23:48It's sort of time for just people to move on, maybe,
23:52and just enjoy the last few weeks.
23:55And, yeah.
23:57Coming up, house five's landscaper,
23:59Troy, cuts corners and breaks rules.
24:02No, no, it's not all about you.
24:04Gary said...
24:05I understand, but you've got to understand five houses.
24:20Over in house two,
24:21Courtney and Grant have $71,700 saved for their backyard.
24:25And while it seems a lot,
24:27most of the other teams have about 20 grand more to spend.
24:31Look, it's not great,
24:33but we'll have enough to finish.
24:35It's just not going to be everything we want, all right?
24:37We've just got to make sacrifices.
24:38We'll put a bit more money into the backyard
24:40as opposed to the front yard.
24:41I think our backyard will have everything we want.
24:43Yeah.
24:44It's more the front yard with, like,
24:46if we could get a 10 or win this week,
24:48then we'll be fine for front yard.
24:50But right now, it'll be very simplified,
24:52because we're putting more of our budget into backyard.
24:55It's a bit of a shame,
24:56because we're not going to have every idea
24:58sort of finish the way we want it.
25:00But we still have a very nice sort of user-friendly yard.
25:03I think it'd be perfect for a holiday home.
25:14Courtney and Maddie needed to go to shops.
25:18So I said, let's go together.
25:23I did go out shopping with Courtney and Mimi,
25:25which was nice.
25:26I haven't had any kind of experience outside
25:29of, like, challenges and things
25:31that I have to be with other people.
25:33Oh, Jesus!
25:35Oh!
25:36What's it in?
25:38Did you put a handbrake?
25:39Yes.
25:40Ha-ha!
25:41Mimi, what the f***?
25:43Oh, my God!
25:45Ha-ha-ha!
25:51Security, will you let me in your car?
25:53I'm not looking for trouble.
25:55Ha-ha-ha!
25:56Do you think I'll get crucified if I put this in my backyard?
25:59Ha-ha-ha!
26:00Right in my pony!
26:03How's that sound?
26:06I love these lights.
26:07I do, too.
26:08You should get one.
26:09You should totally get one.
26:11Yes!
26:12Whoo!
26:13Ow!
26:14If you girls are done and you want to go
26:16and get your pizza oven or something,
26:17or go to lunch so that I don't hold you up,
26:19you can swing back and get me.
26:22So Courtney and I had lunch.
26:24This is going to be really hot, but I'm so hungry.
26:27I don't care.
26:28I'll take the burns.
26:29And then we went to pick up our pizza oven.
26:32You'll find that you cook pizzas,
26:34and the next day they're still warm.
26:36Oh, wow.
26:37So you can put a bit more water in.
26:38You can actually do breads and so on.
26:40It's got fantastic thermal retention.
26:41Yes.
26:45Came back and picked up Maddie.
26:48An hour and a half later.
26:54Back at the block in House 5,
26:56Christian and Mimi have landscaper Troy Lovett on board.
26:59This is his third block,
27:01and he's gunning for his third win.
27:04Artie's passion to succeed sometimes gets him in trouble.
27:08Because Troy's so passionate
27:10and just wants to get the job done
27:12and does maybe push the limits,
27:15I think he's had a fight with Aidan.
27:18I think he's had a fight with Aidan.
27:21I think he's had a fight with Aidan,
27:24Simmo, Dino, Gary.
27:29Oh, G-Mac.
27:32That's fun.
27:33Look, today is not a good day.
27:35We've got loads out in the street
27:37that have been lined up for hours that we're waiting for.
27:40Because every house is relatively the same size,
27:43and there is a minimum of 120 cubic metres
27:47of material that needs to be imported into the sites.
27:50If that's soil, crushed rock, sand, pebbles, mulch,
27:54all of the garden supply stuff.
27:56These trucks can only carry about 8 metres,
27:58so plus a little bit of extra,
28:00we're talking about 120 trucks that have to come in here.
28:04We aren't even getting one truck of soil works in here a day.
28:08So how are we going to get 120 in over the next three or four days?
28:12It's impossible.
28:13And those deliveries I'm talking about
28:15doesn't include Beaumont's, timber, Mitre 10,
28:18anything else that's got to come.
28:20Just soil works alone.
28:22Even if it's 100 trucks, it's not going to happen.
28:26Troy's seen the truck from Beaumont Tiles
28:28has driven past his house and down to the bottom of the block.
28:32So he's getting in before anybody else
28:34with the driver and machine he's commandeered.
28:40No, no, it's not all about you.
28:42Dean, I'm doing what... Lock him in. Lock him in.
28:45Gary said to do it, mate. Don't speak about it.
28:54I'm only doing what Gary said, Dean. I don't care.
28:58We're on a whole truck of tiles.
29:00We're putting all the tiles there. We will get them to you.
29:03Gary said if you see... We will get them to you.
29:05No, I know, Dean, but Gary said...
29:07I understand, but you've got to understand five houses.
29:09But he said if you see house five, get him to dump it on the way through.
29:12That's what he told me to do.
29:14I'm trying to get all the tiles in.
29:16I'm only doing what Gary said. That's all I'm doing.
29:20Why were you upset with Troy?
29:22Because I had a plan and then Troy...
29:25I put my tiles up here, put my tiles up here.
29:28So his tiles were up there. So, yeah.
29:31He's trying to organise five houses, 1,500 trucks, deliveries,
29:35but trying to do the right thing.
29:38But, yeah, he's under the pump, yeah.
29:43Rrrrr!
29:50It's backyard week on the block.
29:52To help rip into our two weeks of landscaping,
29:55today I've asked our blockheads to check out
29:57some Greenworks battery-operated equipment
30:00that will go into their houses for auction day.
30:02Are we doing OTS or what?
30:03Put everything in here.
30:04I want this one.
30:06Rikki looks like a kid.
30:07I've also got a cool buggy and scooter.
30:10Woo!
30:12But I have a different plan for those.
30:15Wouldn't be gardening week without some giveaways.
30:18Dave, talk us through the Greenworks kit. It's unreal.
30:21We have Greenworks here and they are the leaders in technology
30:24for battery-operated equipment, OK?
30:26And we all love sustainability here on the block here.
30:28You know what? It's that good that the Franklin guys
30:30are using it here at the block right now.
30:32All this kit is yours from Greenworks for you to use on the block
30:36and to put in the garage and sell with your homes.
30:39Now, I have noticed everybody is eyeing off the fun toys over here.
30:44Well, I'm going to give you all the chance to win these.
30:48I have a very cunning plan.
30:52As cunning as a fox who's just been appointed
30:55Professor of Cunning at Oxford University.
30:58It's that cunning.
31:00We've been given, like, a riddle sort of thing.
31:03Cunning. Cunning. Cunning.
31:05Some cunning plan.
31:07Cunning as a fox in Foxville or something.
31:09Scotty never says anything that doesn't mean something.
31:11That has to be one. I don't know who's going to get that.
31:14Is cunning... Is it cunning as a fox?
31:17Or is the Professor of Cunning at Oxford University?
31:22I don't know. I don't really...
31:24I think we're too young for those riddles.
31:26Some contestants take challenges a lot more seriously than others.
31:29I want to get to the bottom of it. It's living rent free in my head.
31:32Like, I can't let it go.
31:34As cunning as a fox who's just been appointed Professor of Cunning.
31:39Can't let it go. I'm struggling to cope.
31:41This riddle is consuming me.
31:43As cunning as a fox as a professor who's been to the...
31:46I went to the McCafe and I asked for two large foxes.
31:51I have a very cunning plan.
31:54Hang on. Foxes.
31:56There's no foxes on this island.
31:58I did some research. I read an article.
32:01And apparently there's only one fox left on the island.
32:04And it's a stuffed fox and it's located at the Penguin Parade.
32:14It's cracking day to solve riddles, mate.
32:20Oh, here it is.
32:22It's the only fox left on the island, mate.
32:25Hang on. Is that Phil's rock?
32:28Phil sits on next to Scotty. It was right there.
32:31Oh, dude, there's a fox underneath the rock.
32:34It's Michael J. Fox, dude.
32:36Oh, it's a fox. Oh, no. What's happening here?
32:40There was some sort of sticker on the back of it.
32:43Is it green? Is it like grass?
32:45And maybe a path going through grass or something.
32:48And maybe Michael J. Fox is hiding underneath the paver.
32:52Looked like pavers or something with an X marks the spot on it.
32:56It's a map.
32:58To me it looks green. I don't know what that means.
33:00Like it's grass or something.
33:02Green room.
33:04Photos on the wall.
33:06The all-star wall, mate.
33:08This matches the green room with all the all-star photos on it.
33:11And all the little tiles were the photo frames on the wall.
33:15That's the clue, dude.
33:17An X marks the spot.
33:22Race back to the all-star wall.
33:26Is it this one or that one? Hang on.
33:28We tracked where that photo was.
33:30You've got a photo of Scotty.
33:32And that was our X on our map.
33:34Is that them?
33:36Mate, maybe Michael J. Fox is in with Scotty.
33:39They're probably mates.
33:40Is it just opening?
33:42OK, mate, take it off.
33:45Boom! Oh, Jesus!
33:47The big Scotty's in there.
33:50How long have you been waiting here for?
33:52Since lunchtime yesterday.
33:54I'm so glad you finally found me.
33:56So, you solved the riddle and found the fox.
33:59We solved the riddle.
34:01Very cunning fox he was, too.
34:03He was, mate. Very cunning.
34:04Here is your final clue.
34:06Oh!
34:08Before this game is over,
34:10there will be one final test.
34:13If you want to win those,
34:16you must first learn about all of these.
34:21You're the first team to find me.
34:23Congratulations.
34:24Thanks, mate.
34:25I'm not staying in here for a day and a half
34:27without holding some special prize for you.
34:29Oh, yeah. All right.
34:30There you go.
34:31Open her up.
34:32Do we open it now?
34:33We have it open.
34:34Ooh!
34:35Oi!
34:37Yes!
34:38Daiwa.
34:39Nice work.
34:405,000 bucks worth of Daiwa fishing gear.
34:42Yes, thanks, mate.
34:445,000 bucks of Daiwa.
34:46That is a lot of coin on Daiwa.
34:48Wow.
34:49Put a couple of rods on the boat.
34:51Rest, take it yourself.
34:52Straight in the kayak, mate.
34:53Yes!
34:54Done. Legend.
34:55Yes, you can go.
34:56Boys, I'll see you later.
34:58All right.
35:00We're thinking there's going to be a test, like an exam.
35:02Yeah, we had a light bulb moment.
35:04We think there's going to be a final exam
35:06on the history of the block
35:08and on Michael J. Fox.
35:11So, study time.
35:22So far, Backyard Week has been crazy, chaotic and congested,
35:26and it's been the worst for houses 3 and 4,
35:29who are located down the back of the block
35:31at the end of the road.
35:33Managed chaos, or, like, some sort of chaos symphony.
35:39I've never seen so many trucks, so many guys,
35:42so many pieces of machinery and equipment and plant,
35:45you know, operating in the one place.
35:47Probably not the most efficient
35:49in terms of having that many things going on at the one time,
35:51but it seems to work.
35:53One truck in, one truck out,
35:55one machine down, one machine up.
35:57It's absolute chaos.
35:59Ricky and Hayden are planning the simplest backyard on the block.
36:02No paving and lots of lawn that wraps around the house.
36:06A large custom-built swing set,
36:08the largest pool on the block with a sun deck.
36:15They don't need a lot of concrete, as it costs big money,
36:18but will take any opportunity that comes their way to save money.
36:23Do you boys want any concrete?
36:25I've got some leftover concrete, if you want it.
36:27Yeah, I think we do, man. Yeah, you can have it.
36:29We've got a factory here of concrete!
36:33Keep it coming! Keep it coming!
36:37The problem we've got at the moment,
36:39we've got this concrete truck that the boys want to use,
36:41but then out the front we've got soil works for house 3
36:43that the boys want to dump, so they're snooping themselves.
36:46Right now we're just filling up as many wheelbarrows as possible with concrete,
36:50so he can go and the soil truck can come in,
36:53put the soil somewhere, and then we're going to somehow dig holes
36:55to get rid of the concrete.
36:57We're working upside down, but that's what house 3 do.
36:59They do their ceilings first, remember,
37:01then do the rest of the house underneath.
37:03It's the same idea now.
37:05Our team is filled with some very skilled
37:09and highly intelligent operators,
37:11so in whichever direction they want to build, we will follow them.
37:14We're doing the slab.
37:15Slab it out.
37:16Slab it out.
37:17Yep.
37:18We'll get some mesh, we'll get the chippies over here to do a frame,
37:21and we'll pour the concrete in.
37:23Done.
37:25The slab Duncan wants to build will be right outside the back door.
37:32Truck's gone.
37:33Get the big one in.
37:34Let's go.
37:35One scrape, we're on.
37:36Pour in conch.
37:37Y'all ready for this?
37:38We've got the ground level.
37:40Put together a big frame and, yeah,
37:43put our own slab so we've got our own little stairway out to the pool.
37:46And we got the concrete through.
37:49There you go.
37:50One step.
37:51That's how you get it done.
37:53Bring it in.
38:00Look on the block, you've just got to build how you can build,
38:02whether it's backwards, forwards, sideways,
38:04as long as you're building in one direction and that is forwards.
38:08It's not just the boys that are feeling the pinch.
38:10Everyone's budgets are tight, which is why last week this happened.
38:14Over the last couple of months,
38:16Jo from finance here has been keeping a very tight eye on your budgets
38:21and she's been tracking them by tracking your spending on Xero.
38:25It's not about how much you spend,
38:27it's more about how well you spend
38:29and whether you're paying your bills on time on Xero.
38:34Now it's time to find out who wins.
38:37G'day, good evening.
38:39Hi.
38:40Hello, hello, hello.
38:41A lot can happen in a week and apparently it did.
38:44It was nuts.
38:45I have never seen, in all my time on the block,
38:48contestants paying bills, uploading invoices to Xero
38:52like I've seen in the last week.
38:53Wow.
38:54It's been incredible and we should do it every year.
38:56Yeah.
38:57Should do it every week, you reckon?
38:58Every week, let's do it every week.
38:59Every week.
39:00Every week.
39:01Well, obviously, everyone wants to get their hands on the medals
39:04and the $10,000 from Xero.
39:08Now, Jo, how'd we go?
39:10Scotty, it was neck and neck.
39:12Yep.
39:13And I was sort of starting to think
39:14that I wasn't going to be able to make a decision.
39:16Ooh.
39:17Two teams had paid every single bill
39:19and uploaded every single invoice.
39:21Wow.
39:22I was starting to think,
39:23oh, we're going to have to share these medals.
39:26Yep.
39:27However, this afternoon,
39:30one of those teams sent me a budget forecast
39:33for the next two weeks
39:35detailing all their outgoing spend...
39:37Yes.
39:38..to the cent.
39:39Wow.
39:40So something bright at the death...
39:41Yeah.
39:42..has tipped them over the line.
39:43Crunch time, they came through.
39:44Who is it, Jo?
39:45The winner of the Xero Hero Award...
39:53..is House 3.
39:55Oh!
39:58Oh, boys, come and get your medals.
40:00Thanks, mate.
40:01Thank you, Jo.
40:02Yeah, take them off there.
40:04This one, I didn't do a lot for, to be honest.
40:06I just made sure any invoice I get,
40:07I send straight to Hayden.
40:08Scotty.
40:09So this is a lot of Hayden's work, really.
40:13Yeah, I reckon it's real gold.
40:14Yeah, I reckon it could be.
40:15I reckon that's solid, 24 carat.
40:17That's a tooth mark.
40:18Yeah.
40:19Here you go.
40:20Thanks, mate.
40:21You're going to have to redo that spreadsheet now.
40:22I'll do it.
40:23You can hold it for a minute.
40:24You're going to have to redo your spreadsheet.
40:25I will.
40:26You've got an extra 10 grand.
40:27Beautiful.
40:28That's it.
40:29I've got something in mind.
40:30Xero Heroes, baby.
40:31Xero Heroes.
40:32Come on.
40:33Yes.
40:3410K.
40:35I'll wear that medal with pride.
40:36See you later.
40:38Bye.
40:39Bye.
40:41Good job, boys.
40:44I was really close to being done.
40:45Thanks, guys.
40:46Cheers.
40:48Cheers.
40:52After a successful day with a couple of wins,
40:55Riggi and Hayden are taking a moment
40:57to commemorate the passing of a friend.
41:00Right, boys.
41:02Today is a very special day.
41:04Today's me late best mate Lockie's birthday.
41:07He's no longer with us.
41:13Yeah, we lost him in a car accident
41:15about just over 10 years ago.
41:17I watched him walk out the door on Cup Day
41:19and he never came back.
41:23I don't have much of a family.
41:25My family's basically my good mates
41:28and their family, really.
41:30This is the first time in a long time
41:32I haven't been able to see him where he now rests.
41:37We were like brothers, pretty much.
41:40We had matching tats.
41:42Brothers, different mothers.
41:46We always told each other,
41:47as long as we've got each other,
41:48we don't need anyone else.
41:50I know he'd be super proud of where we are.
41:54I think it's one of the driving reasons
41:55why it's never enough for me.
41:58We win one challenge
42:00and all I want to do is win the next one for him.
42:03I think it's just important that we enjoy each day, man.
42:08Something bad happens,
42:09but it can always be so much worse.
42:12It can always be so much worse.
42:14That's why me and H
42:15just lost his dad.
42:17I've lost my best mate.
42:19I think that's for me and H
42:20is just making sure that every day,
42:23no matter what happens,
42:24we just enjoy every day.
42:26We're so grateful.
42:30Tomorrow night,
42:31gung-ho behaviour by House 5's landscaper
42:33creates anarchy.
42:35Troy's gone and got an auger in there
42:38and now he's just drilling.
42:40There's live power.
42:41There's live sewer through these joints.
42:43Look, if we start hitting that,
42:44we're in trouble.
42:45We can shut the whole site down.
42:47Like, it's not the Troy Lovett Show.
42:49Kylie and Brad's house grinds to a halt
42:51when they order the wrong concrete.
42:54What mix is this?
42:55Brad, you got the wrong mix here, mate.
42:57It's not a 7mm mix.
42:58No, that is a disaster.
43:00And their landscaper forgets to order plants.
43:03We were under the impression
43:04that all our plants were sorted.
43:06That was a bit of a bombshell for us.
43:09Leaving them with these small, immature shrubs.
43:12We're a good day behind.
43:14It might just be not finished.
43:16Yeah.
43:19But despite all the problems,
43:21on Sunday night,
43:22some magnificent backyards rise up from the earth.
43:25That is phenomenal.
43:29It's miraculous that it's this good in this time frame.
43:35This is 35, 40 metres of perfection.
