00:00Tonight, it's a front yard free-for-all for our final week working on our block houses.
00:11If you've got any leftover concrete, lads, just send it down to House 3.
00:15But it's not a fair playing field for the girls in House 1.
00:19We can't even do, like, our deck.
00:21Our site has been a storage facility for, like, since day one, for the entire block.
00:25One team is flying high with plenty of cash to splash.
00:29You're talking nearly nine grand.
00:30Just because we've got 30 grand, we don't want to make a circus.
00:32Like, we want to do it tastefully.
00:34I love this idea. I think it'll look really nice.
00:36Yeah.
00:37We believe we're delivering a award Mustang-winning garden.
00:41And the boys from House 3 are left rocked by a massive error in judgement.
00:46We stood back and looked at it and went, oh, God, what have we just done?
00:51Oh, my God.
00:52This is a complete disaster, boys.
00:55You guys actually did this.
00:58Oh, this is going.
01:06Brad's like, oh, you know I'd follow your OnlyFans.
01:13It was so inappropriate, it wasn't even funny.
01:20We've got a situation.
01:21Oh, what's happened, Scotty?
01:23Kylie, she went off to her flooring extra consult this morning.
01:32It was seen with a small bag.
01:36She went to the flooring extra consult and then she's never been seen since.
01:42She's not been seen.
01:49We've done everything we can to locate her
01:51and we've just discovered she's landed in Brisbane.
01:56She's gone back home.
01:57She's landed in Brisbane at about 20 minutes ago.
02:00We're assuming that she's heading to Cairns.
02:06All right, so I'm saying goodbye.
02:08I can't be on national television with having my marriage breaking down.
02:14I'm going home and I can't say I'll be returning.
02:19So we went to the cafe today and Tina and Lulu basically said
02:24that Brad said something to Mimi on Saturday night
02:27while they were all having a drink.
02:29But Kylie was asleep and then she wasn't asleep.
02:34But we don't know what Brad has said.
02:36Now, I think it might be, yeah, if she's left,
02:39it's obviously something that's pushed her over the edge.
02:44Are you going to call me again in the morning or what?
02:46No.
02:47What I did when I was drunk is none of my business.
02:50It's none of mine either.
03:00I'd very much say that I've just single-handedly destroyed my family.
03:17I love you.
03:30It's not true
03:36Tell me I've been lied to
03:41Crying isn't like you
03:50Morning, everyone.
03:55One day.
03:58So we'll have all the deliveries the same as always,
04:01every day this week and last week.
04:03If you know what's going on, put it on the whiteboard,
04:06help traffic, help us in the street.
04:08Knowing Kylie, do you think it's likely that she'll come back?
04:14I guess I don't know.
04:18I don't know what's going to happen.
04:31Is that house three's true call?
04:34We can't even do like our deck.
04:36We can't do our pavers.
04:37It's not really a level playing field when we can't do anything.
04:42The house type had everything under the sun on it.
04:46It had house two, three and four's true call.
04:49It had nine and six's eve.
04:52It had every single person's paint.
04:54It had timber.
04:56It had people's fireplaces and pots.
04:58And so it was like literally like a garage sale.
05:03Hayden, do you want to...
05:04That's your true call.
05:05Oh, is this yours? You're coming to get it?
05:06What's that?
05:07That's yours.
05:08Oh, yeah, sweet.
05:10Bit of everyone else's crap on our land.
05:12So what happens is the deliveries get dropped at ours
05:16and then I think they either don't come and get them
05:18because they don't need or they don't have space
05:21so they just leave them there.
05:23Our site has been a storage facility for like...
05:25Since day one.
05:26Yeah.
05:27For the entire block.
05:28Let's come up with a game plan.
05:30Yeah.
05:31What's better for you guys for them to concentrate on?
05:33This paving.
05:34We need to get that paving slab in.
05:36So the digging will be gone
05:37and then we can get that cladding moved somewhere else.
05:39So that cladding in there we want ASAP done.
05:41Because we need to do a deck in there.
05:43Nine and six are cladding the front of our house.
05:46So they've essentially got their scissor lifts,
05:48their scaffolds, all the things set up
05:50like directly where you would have a garden bed.
05:53So there's no hope for doing any softscaping today.
05:57Softscaping refers to the living, growing elements
05:59of your landscaping.
06:00These include trees, shrubs, flowers, grass
06:02and all other horticultural components.
06:04But we're going to at least try and get...
06:06Attempt.
06:07..a concrete slab down for our front path.
06:10Maddie and Charlotte's front pathway
06:12will feature a bright white Beaumont tile
06:15that will be lined with only very young plants
06:18simply because...
06:19It's all about the money.
06:21Because of the budget, like, I can't have heaps of plants.
06:25I can't do any water feature.
06:27I can't have custom, like, doors
06:29that I would have loved to have had.
06:31So we've just had to really strip it back.
06:33Like, it's still going to be beautiful.
06:35And there's, like, there is beauty and simplicity.
06:38But it's just not anything extravagant.
06:51Have you heard about Kylie?
06:53No.
06:55Apparently, she's gone.
06:59What do you mean, gone?
07:00Like, off the island?
07:01That's what we've been told, that maybe she's left.
07:03Like, gone home.
07:05To Cairns?
07:06Apparently.
07:07We haven't seen Brad.
07:08I don't think I'll see Brad.
07:10Yep.
07:11So I don't know if you should check up on her or something.
07:16I don't have anything, OK?
07:18Of hers.
07:19I can contact her.
07:21If she's not here.
07:22She was really bad yesterday.
07:25Did she speak to you?
07:26Barely.
07:27Like, we tried to ask.
07:28Barely got a hello.
07:29And she just said she was pretty much done.
07:31Brad seemed very down.
07:34I don't think they were talking yesterday.
07:37Is she, like, gone gone?
07:39Apparently, yep.
07:42Which probably makes...
07:43I think she did need a breather.
07:44She did need a...
07:46SIGHS
07:51Hopefully it's just a couple of days.
07:56They said that Kylie's gone home.
07:58Is this the first you're hearing of anything like that?
08:02Do you know why she's left?
08:04I don't know.
08:05Maybe landscaping?
08:10She's home?
08:12She's right there.
08:15Was that, like, an up and left?
08:17Or was it a discussion?
08:22SIGHS
08:29I don't know.
08:30Like, she's always, like, threatening to leave and stuff,
08:32but I never think she'd actually leave.
08:35Especially with, like, two weeks left.
08:42Morning, guys.
08:43I'm going to go get a vest before I get in trouble.
08:47I'm just going to get a coffee, Grant.
08:49All right.
08:50The news is getting back through.
08:52Cos you came back, you had the goss.
08:54I assume everybody was like,
08:55what do you know, what do you know?
08:57Obviously, like, it was slowly getting out there
08:59that Kylie is no longer on the block.
09:02Did you hear...
09:04Yeah.
09:06Yeah.
09:07Did you hear what?
09:09Kylie.
09:10Kylie had left, yeah.
09:12It's a shock, because we've got one more week.
09:14Like, I'd love to just end this on a high,
09:17but there is a massive elephant in the room.
09:20I didn't know until last night.
09:22Scottie announced it at dinner.
09:23I thought he was joking at first.
09:25What do you mean? He said Kylie's what?
09:26Kylie's left.
09:27Oh.
09:28And that was, like, when we found out,
09:29and we're all, like, just sitting there in shock.
09:32Um...
09:34I did text Mimi last night, and I said,
09:36look, have you heard?
09:37And she's like, what the f***?
09:39Oh, so Mimi knew?
09:41Um...
09:42Yeah.
09:44Interesting.
09:46Well, I think she's involved.
09:48I have no idea.
09:58It's the final week of work on our block houses this week.
10:04Which also means it's the final week
10:06of worrying about block budgets.
10:08But at this point in the competition,
10:11it's no longer about balancing the books.
10:13It's all about finding enough money
10:15to present a decent front yard for the final week.
10:20Unless your name is Courtney or Grant,
10:22who just so happen to have an extra 30 grand in their pocket,
10:26thanks to a win and two tens worth 10 grand each just last week.
10:31Yeah, 30 grand.
10:32That's our biggest win.
10:33Yeah, we loved our backyard, but we didn't think
10:35I didn't think we'd get the reaction that it got.
10:37So we go decking to here.
10:38Yeah.
10:39And then we'll go a post there.
10:41We're trying to put a lot of our budget into an entrance feature
10:44and having, like, you know, really great street presence.
10:49So we are going to get three or four arbors
10:53leading up to our front door,
10:54which will have the exact same angle
10:56as the slanted undercover area
10:58before you walk into the house.
10:59So basically to continue that, but make it a bit more of an aisle.
11:02So, yeah, we're just tossing up between
11:04if it's going to be three or four arbors.
11:07So that's three.
11:08Yeah.
11:09I think three.
11:11I mean, I don't know.
11:13What's the difference?
11:14Two grand.
11:15Yeah.
11:16But you think, you're talking 150 bucks a lilypilly.
11:19Yeah.
11:20You get a lot of lilypillies.
11:21It's nearly another 20 lilypillies.
11:23Yeah.
11:24I think six or three.
11:25Having decided on three blue croc steel arbors
11:28to accompany their French travertine tile walkway,
11:31Courtney and Grant also plan to add in some lilypilly trees,
11:35a stringy bark wooden deck and a custom-made timber door.
11:38Just because we've got 30 grand, we don't want to make it a circus.
11:41Like, we want to do it tastefully.
11:43Investing in the arbors and the custom timber door,
11:45I think, is the main thing, and obviously the main suite patio.
11:48Like, I think they would be our key areas.
11:51Us Two's main suite patio is positioned here
11:54to the right of the main entrance.
11:56Ideally, Courtney and Grant would love to add
11:59additional blue croc arbors around their patio,
12:01but their total arbor outlay would skyrocket.
12:04You're talking nearly nine grand.
12:06Nine grand.
12:07Four of them, yeah.
12:08It's not worth it.
12:09It's not worth it.
12:10We love the blue croc arbors that we've got at the front.
12:12There's no doubt that they come with a price.
12:14So we have to sort of think about how we can do them a little bit cheaper
12:18and still with a quality product.
12:20What we're thinking is, for this,
12:21we can do it with timber and paint them black.
12:23Yeah, and not too high.
12:25No, as high as the door.
12:27Yeah.
12:28So Courtney and Grant have decided to design
12:31and build their own cheaper wooden arbors
12:34to frame their curved French pattern
12:36travertine tile main bedroom patio.
12:39I love this idea.
12:40I think it'll look really nice.
12:41Yeah.
12:42We believe we're delivering a Ford Mustang-winning garden.
12:46Reason being is your front yard's meant to be
12:49about a grand entrance, about street appeal,
12:51and, you know, you don't need to rewrite history to do that.
12:55So we feel like we'll tick all those boxes, definitely.
13:04Hi, guys.
13:05How are you?
13:06Hi, Scotty.
13:07Good to see you.
13:08Good to see you.
13:09Hi.
13:10Good to see you.
13:11How are you travelling?
13:12Yeah, pretty average at the moment.
13:14Yeah.
13:15Well, look, I know you sort of are up to speed on what's going on
13:20because I've been on the Ford getaway,
13:23and last night, we were worried about Kylie yesterday,
13:26and then last night I find out that she's in Cairns.
13:30Yeah.
13:31You know that?
13:32Yeah, we know that.
13:33She's in Cairns, and so I understand that it stemmed
13:37from something that happened on Saturday night.
13:40Yeah, so Saturday night, the three of us were all hanging out together,
13:45having a few drinks.
13:47You said something's a little bit flirty,
13:51but I didn't feel that it was, so, you know.
13:56I mean, I'm here not to, I'm here to make sure you're all right.
14:00Yeah.
14:01I'm here to make sure that you're comfortable with what happened.
14:04Yeah, I'm honestly fine.
14:06I just, you know, I just want them to be okay.
14:09Yes, yes, we all do.
14:11But I want you to be okay.
14:13Yeah.
14:14That's why I came here first, and now I'm going down to see Brad.
14:17Yeah, I'm honestly fine.
14:19Okay.
14:20Thanks, Scotty.
14:21Thanks, Scotty.
14:22Ten days to go.
14:23Ten days.
14:24Only.
14:25Ten days to go.
14:26Good idea.
14:27Happy?
14:28Yes.
14:29Okay, then.
14:30Well done, guys.
14:31Thanks, Scotty.
14:32Thanks, Scotty.
14:33Bye.
14:38It's like you guys were just talking.
14:40Yeah.
14:41Hi.
14:50That's fine.
14:58They're okay.
15:03That'd be fun.
15:04Oh.
15:09Mimi, can you tell me what happened on Saturday night?
15:12So, Saturday night, Backyard Week,
15:16I was at Kylie and Brad's house.
15:19We were just hanging out, drinking,
15:22and then we were just chatting,
15:24and then Kylie went to sleep on the deck next to us,
15:29and then I just stayed chatting,
15:32and, you know, maybe there were some comments that were made
15:36that came across as flirty.
15:38I personally felt, like, comfortable in the situation.
15:42All I know is that Kylie woke up and then she went into bed,
15:47and I think that was when it started, so that's when I left.
15:53It's unfortunate that, you know, Kylie overheard,
15:59which led her to, you know, leaving,
16:03which was not anyone's intention.
16:09Christian, how do you feel about all this?
16:12Um, I think...
16:14I don't think Mimi should have any regrets
16:16about going out and having a good time.
16:19It's coming to that time where we're going to have to say goodbye,
16:22so she wants to make the most with the beautiful people
16:25and friends that we've met.
16:28But in terms of the comment, I mean,
16:30if Mimi didn't feel uncomfortable about what was said,
16:34then I've got no reason to, do you know what I mean?
16:36I'm not that type of partner that's going to be overprotective
16:39and, like, you literally haven't done nothing wrong.
16:43You were just sitting there having a conversation.
16:45It's not like you were flirting back.
16:59Oh, my gosh, that is outstanding.
17:01Oh! She likes it too!
17:03See how our all-stars Dan and Danni rate the Blockheads' rooms
17:07when they award their weekly champs and chomps.
17:10Who are your champs?
17:11Exclusively at the Block website.
17:20Radley. Scotty.
17:22Um, mate, obviously I've been on the forward getaway,
17:25been away, and I found out last night
17:29that something had happened on Saturday night
17:33between you, Kylie, and Mimi.
17:37The problem I've got now is that Kylie's in Cairns.
17:41Yeah, it's... I don't know what to say, mate.
17:46Yeah, well, look, I can tell you, right, mate,
17:49that I've spoken to Kylie and she's coming back tomorrow.
17:55She's flying back.
17:58Is that good news? Yeah.
18:00Yeah. Good. Yeah. It is good news.
18:03She's still upset, but she is going to come back.
18:07And, um, and I think that you've got a role.
18:11I don't know.
18:13Be the best husband you can be.
18:15Yeah, definitely. Get it all back on track.
18:18Yeah, that's all I want. It'll be good to see her.
18:21Yeah. Thanks, mate.
18:23All right. See you, buddy.
18:27Kylie's coming back tomorrow?
18:29Yeah, that's... that's, um, a massive relief, really.
18:33Um, still...
18:36Yeah.
18:38Still a lot.
18:42Over in house three,
18:44the boys are out on the prowl for any cheap extra goods
18:47they can get their hands on.
18:50And by cheap, I mean free.
18:53Using recycled hoses?
18:56Yeah, apparently this is a free-for-all.
18:58And, um, in Brad's driveway, he's having a free yard sale.
19:03It's a recycling facility.
19:05Yes, it's all about sustainability,
19:07so making sure that this hose gets another life.
19:12If you've got any leftover concrete, lads, we know where to put it.
19:16Yeah, that's fine. I don't know how we'll go.
19:18We've got a few more holes like that.
19:20Oh, you've got a few left? Yeah.
19:22But if we do, yeah, that's fine.
19:24Yeah, if you do, just send it down to house three.
19:26Whose concrete is it?
19:28It's house one's concrete.
19:30House one's concrete, but it's leftover,
19:32so it's going to get binned, or it can go in our vehicle.
19:35It's about sustainability here on the block,
19:37and we don't want to see anything wasted.
19:39Do we, Duncan? No. No.
19:41No, it's about things for free.
19:43No, sustainability. Sustainability.
19:45Free concrete. Who doesn't love that?
19:47100%.
19:48We're just going to empty it into there so he can get going.
19:51It's all about sustainability, apparently.
19:54I don't know what that word...
19:56Yes, yes.
19:58That word seems to work around here,
20:00so I'm going to keep using it.
20:02Well done, Jake.
20:04And Duncan isn't the only one
20:06embracing sustainability at the block this year,
20:08because for our 20th season,
20:10we've partnered with CommBank
20:12to help build a brighter and more sustainable block for all.
20:16And as Shell and I have been discussing with the blockheads
20:19throughout the series...
20:20CommBank are helping us in our quest for sustainability
20:23with $100,000.
20:26So far, we've already spent 60 of the 100 grand on...
20:30Solar panels on all the roofs.
20:32Yeah, it's all about that building a brighter future, right?
20:35For 2024.
20:36You've got your induction cooktops from E&S downstairs.
20:38Highly energy efficient. They are.
20:40We're doing water filtration into the whole house.
20:42So there's a lot of little things happening around the place.
20:45And in another sustainable initiative,
20:47Kingspan are on site to install the last of the many water tanks
20:51that now populate the block.
20:53And they're game,
20:54because they're letting 4Dan tell us about their product.
20:57Happy to have a go, mate?
20:58You can do it a couple of times.
20:59We're going to need a few.
21:00So this year on the block,
21:01we have the Urban Water Tanks from Kingspan.
21:04Now, they worked...
21:05So this year on the tank,
21:06we have the Urban Water Tank from Kingspan.
21:10So this year on the block,
21:11we're installing the Urban Water Tanks from Kingspan.
21:14It acts as an on-site water detention system,
21:16which is amazing.
21:17It's a two-part tank.
21:18Now, the top part, when we have a heavy rainfall,
21:21it brings all the water from the roof,
21:23stores it on there,
21:24so it doesn't go down the storm water drain
21:26and causes flooding.
21:27It'll slowly release it.
21:28Then from halfway down,
21:30it acts as our recycling water
21:31that we use for our toilets and our gardens.
21:39Kingspan are amazing.
21:40They're Australian-made.
21:41They've been around since 1934.
21:43They'll have four types of tanks
21:44to fit all sizes and yards.
21:46Get one of these,
21:47help the environment,
21:48don't clog all the storm water systems,
21:50and water your garden for free.
21:53Every little thing you do,
21:56it all goes a long, long way.
21:58One bit of rubbish,
22:00couple of holes of concrete.
22:03We all got to do our bit for the planet.
22:05Hey, where does wastage concrete go?
22:07Do they just stick it in landfill?
22:09Yeah.
22:10No, they turn it back up
22:11and turn it into new concrete.
22:13So it doesn't get wasted.
22:15No.
22:16But think about the fossil fuels
22:18that that truck's going to waste
22:19getting back to the depot.
22:21Otherwise, it's a waste of fuel.
22:23The carbon footprint.
22:24You know, it's a win-win.
22:28Can you get one more?
22:32Coming up,
22:33budget woes leave House 5's garage build in limbo.
22:37I'm just stressed
22:38because I wasn't expecting
22:39to refit the whole garage.
22:41We can't afford to have our chippies here.
22:43It just keeps piling up
22:44and piling up and piling up.
22:46Rikki and Hayden's week hits rock bottom.
22:49Oh, f***.
22:50You guys actually did this.
22:54It's definitely not what we envisioned.
22:56And Brad faces the music
22:58as Kylie returns to the block.
23:12Welcome back to the block, Phillip Island,
23:14at our second consecutive week
23:16of the hustle and bustle of working outdoors.
23:20Truckloads of deliveries...
23:21Thank you very much.
23:23..noisy earth-moving equipment,
23:25an army of landscapers to deal with,
23:27front yard week is certainly no walk in the park.
23:32Just to top things off,
23:33our blockheads are also planning
23:35for next week's Disney Plus Clubhouse reveals.
23:39And there's a game-changing prize on offer
23:41with a massive $50,000
23:43to come off one lucky team's reserve price
23:46come auction day.
23:47Rikki and Hayden have chosen
23:49to do the alfresco area of said clubhouse,
23:52which is basically one big veranda.
23:54And the boys from House 3
23:56couldn't be happier with their space.
23:58Yeah, really excited for our Disney Plus Clubhouse.
24:01We're starting to ramp it up a little bit.
24:04We had some concrete poured
24:06for the big plinth, the big hearth
24:08that goes underneath the fireplace today.
24:10And this is no ordinary run-of-the-mill fireplace
24:13because it also doubles up as a pizza oven and grill,
24:16stacked with firewood either side
24:18and brickwork all the way up to the roof.
24:21This fireplace is going to be an alfresco showstopper.
24:25It's good to start seeing it take some shape.
24:28With the slab now poured,
24:30this job is far from finished
24:32because the boys have decided
24:34to have a crack at burnishing their concrete
24:37to try and achieve a high-end knockout finish.
24:42We want to put the right effort in
24:45and we want to make sure we're doing everything we can
24:48to be in the best position to win that 50K.
24:51But with zero experience burnishing concrete,
24:54who better to ask for advice
24:56than our resident concrete aficionado,
24:58Phil the Concreter.
25:00So you keep trailing it while it's drying?
25:03Yeah, keep doing it in stages.
25:05You might have to do it every half an hour or something.
25:07Until it gets really hard.
25:09It's pretty cold out here on Phillip Island
25:11so unfortunately the concrete takes a bit to cure.
25:13So if I'm going to burnish it,
25:15I'm going to be doing it all night.
25:17Keep trailing it as best you can,
25:19filling all your little holes.
25:21And eventually it gets to a point where it's that hard,
25:23where it's nearly doing nothing,
25:25maybe add a little bit of water,
25:27keep trailing it, gives it that sort of burnished look.
25:29For me it's not about time or how long something takes,
25:32it's about getting the best finish,
25:34especially when it comes to that clubhouse.
25:36So if I've got to go till sunrise, I'll go till sunrise.
25:38Rick's going to take the night shifts.
25:40I'll make sure I'm there in the morning,
25:42holding the fort.
25:44Thanks mate, appreciate that.
25:46Appreciate the support.
25:48Sounds like I'll be here solo.
25:52Confirmed.
25:58The trick's going to be
26:00getting it across the whole thing.
26:12It's probably been going at it for
26:14probably about an hour.
26:18Oh mate, you alright?
26:20Concrete's our job.
26:30Yeah!
26:34I know the more work I put into it,
26:36the better the result will be.
26:38So I don't really care how long it takes man,
26:40if it takes all night, if it takes all sunrise.
26:52It's a new day here on the block,
26:54but it's the same old pre-start ritual.
26:56Maddie and Charlotte are both turned up,
26:58but it's not to see G-Mac.
27:00Instead, they're awaiting the arrival
27:02of someone pretty special.
27:14Our dad has come to visit.
27:16He just got back from Europe
27:18and decided he was going to
27:20drive down and see us.
27:22I have to get a new shirt.
27:24I know you're looking very fresh
27:26with your new shoes.
27:28And we were like, you know what,
27:30if you're coming all this way,
27:32we may as well put you to work.
27:34Look at that, part of the team.
27:36Probably not the best look to be honest,
27:38but it's okay.
27:40He went and got his white card on Monday
27:42so that he could come on site.
27:44And then drove down on Tuesday
27:46and was here on Wednesday.
27:48Welcome to the block.
27:50This is what happens, eh?
27:54Yeah, he's straight to work.
27:56No time to waste.
27:58And his first job is jackhammering up
28:00the tiles in the garage.
28:02The fun job.
28:12He's such a hard worker.
28:14Both our parents are really hard workers
28:16and so we've grown up watching them work so hard.
28:18And so that's probably where we get
28:20a lot of our drive from.
28:22And so he wouldn't have it any other way.
28:24He's like, what can I do?
28:26How can I help?
28:36Although he's getting a bit old
28:38so we'll see how long he actually lasts.
28:40There you go.
28:42Group hug.
28:44Reunited.
28:46I must admit it's the best time
28:48I've first time been overseas
28:50that I really look forward
28:52to coming back and seeing the girls.
28:54Oh, you don't miss me all the time?
28:56Normally you don't miss them that much.
28:58Is that an honour or a compliment? I'm not sure.
29:00Well, there's certainly no doubt
29:02that Graeme is about as honest
29:04as the day is long.
29:06Speaking of long days.
29:08So I finished burnishing
29:10the concrete
29:12for our fireplace this morning
29:14at about half past two.
29:16How'd you go with the concrete?
29:18Alright.
29:20I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out
29:22because I'd never done it before
29:24and everyone was really happy with how it turned out.
29:26See the reflection?
29:28Yeah, you can see the light bouncing off it.
29:30Mate, it's like a mirror, look at that.
29:32Great job, mate.
29:34For an amateur to do something of this level
29:36is impressive.
29:38And with burnished concrete
29:40this good, word travels fast.
29:42Once the fire's going on
29:44it's just going to heat up and be nice and warm to sit on.
29:46Oh yeah, it's a nice colour too, isn't it?
29:48Looks good, that's impressive.
29:50Yeah, thanks, mate.
29:52Maybe you should be a concreter.
29:54Might have to be.
29:56Are you serious?
30:02Unfortunately, I left the slab unattended
30:04and now there's probably 500,
30:06600 kilos in plaster
30:08and products stored on top of it.
30:10That's brutal, mate.
30:12I worked so hard on that all night
30:14to come back and find all that on it.
30:16That's devastating.
30:18Last night, working till 3 o'clock in the morning
30:20could be all for nothing.
30:28Are you worried about Sam Bailey?
30:30Yeah, definitely.
30:36I've upset her and
30:38I know she wants more space
30:40and we're just coming back to her, so...
30:44What's your plan?
30:48I don't know, I don't have a plan.
30:56Just keep doing, I guess,
30:58until she's here
31:00and try and give her
31:02as much space as she wants.
31:06How are you travelling?
31:08Getting better.
31:10She's coming back.
31:12Yeah, sweet.
31:14Oh, awesome.
31:16You see a friend that's down,
31:18you see someone that's going through something rough,
31:20you don't want to give them any help.
31:22Well, you can.
31:24Brad's going to stay with us
31:26and we'll give him whatever he wants,
31:28whether it's a spare bed, fireplace,
31:30whatever he wants.
31:32Open house for Brad.
31:42Do you think you guys can get through this, Brad?
31:48I have no idea.
31:50I hope so.
31:52But it's also unfair for me to hope so.
32:13Ready, set, go!
32:25Front Yard Week has so far proven
32:27to be a whole lot tougher than expected.
32:31Not only do our blockheads have decks to build,
32:33walkways to lay,
32:35forests of green to plant,
32:37but they've also had the additional task
32:39of revealing their garages this week.
32:42And for Christian in house five,
32:44that means a whole lot of unforeseen extra work.
32:47I'm just stressed because I wasn't expecting
32:49to re-sheet the whole garage.
32:51And then that just was a curveball
32:53that got thrown to me on Monday.
32:55We need to batten and plaster those walls.
32:57I thought I could just patch the few little holes
32:59and keep it as it was.
33:01We're going to have to pull the whole thing out.
33:03Christian was hoping to leave the garage's
33:05original plaster in place,
33:07but as it's been damaged during the renovation,
33:09the plaster will all come out.
33:11Then the walls need to be battened,
33:13insulated, sheeted,
33:15and support nogs installed for the roller door.
33:17We can't afford to have our chippies here
33:19to sort of help out,
33:21and there's nogs that need to be installed,
33:23so it just keeps piling up and piling up.
33:27How's your budget looking?
33:29It is not looking very nice.
33:31It's all my fault.
33:33It's not your fault at all.
33:35I trusted everything.
33:37You also trusted me when I said
33:39our budget's looking fine,
33:41even though I never checked.
33:43Yeah.
33:45Every time we had an interview,
33:47how's your budget look?
33:49We're doing great.
33:51So good. We're under budget,
33:53but I never checked.
33:55So the budget
33:57is looking really good.
33:59I'm budget queen.
34:01How's your budget looking then?
34:03Our budget's looking great.
34:05So good.
34:07Overall, our budget is looking really good.
34:09Our main goal is to, you know,
34:11keep winning, keep getting $10,000
34:13because front and backyard
34:15are going to be expensive.
34:17The thing that's too stressful
34:19would be traffic.
34:23Do you know what I mean?
34:25Because then you see how much you spend.
34:27One person who might not find
34:29this a laughing matter
34:31is House 5's landscaper, Troy Lovett,
34:33who's working with a razor-thin budget.
34:39To complement their existing
34:41giant palm tree,
34:43Christian and Mimi are adding in some new turf,
34:45several wooden posts,
34:47a pale stone gravel driveway for boat parking,
34:49some garden beds,
34:51along with some large feature rocks.
34:53So today I've got to get
34:55the slab done
34:57for the garden shed.
34:59To do that, create some garden beds.
35:01Put in the ground today,
35:03and then I've got to confirm the grass.
35:05So still a lot of work that needs to be done.
35:07Yep, a whole lot of work,
35:09but not a whole lot of money to do it with.
35:11This is a concept
35:13that the boys down the back in House 3
35:15are very familiar with.
35:19Budget's tight.
35:21Talking dollars and cents,
35:23especially with some plans that we've got this week.
35:25Awesome, mate.
35:27Can't wait, brother.
35:29See ya, bud.
35:31Who's that?
35:33It's Brendan from Food Cube.
35:35So we've got eight
35:37self-contained,
35:39sustainable
35:41living gardens
35:43being installed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
35:45You've got a bunch of sustainable
35:47features in this house, haven't you?
35:49Talk us through all of those.
35:51Even just the way that we've designed our landscape
35:53is very sustainable.
35:55So we're using a lot of recycled timbers
35:57and stones and things like that.
35:59For us, that natural Australian landscape
36:01is going to be just deck,
36:03grass
36:05and a heap of fun.
36:07Positioned at the rear of the block,
36:09House 3's yard this week
36:11wraps around the left-hand side of their house.
36:13Out the back,
36:15Ricky and Hayden are leaning into their
36:17sustainability mantra
36:19with plans for a large recycled timber deck,
36:21self-sustaining food cubes
36:23featuring veggie gardens
36:25that supply fresh herbs and vegetables
36:27and at ground level, there's not a
36:29paver in sight.
36:31You don't remember those good times you had on some pavers out the back.
36:33It's like, how good was that, you know,
36:35those summer memories, kicking back on the deck
36:37or, you know, kicking the footy
36:39or playing cricket on the grass.
36:41So, sustainability-wise,
36:43fun-wise, that was
36:45always going to be our sort of goal.
36:47It just so happened that
36:49that sort of helped our budget a little bit as well.
36:55I'm going to see
36:57if there's any concrete deliveries
36:59today. I mean, we only need three barrows,
37:01so...
37:03Ooh.
37:07Zoe, I noticed you've got
37:09concrete coming at three.
37:11I think I've only got one concrete coming at the moment.
37:13Have you got concrete coming?
37:15No. No? No.
37:17No, it's all good. Oh.
37:19I'm just... just
37:21checking, see what's going to block the driveway.
37:23Oh, gotcha. OK.
37:25We got you.
37:27Wow, she can leap that. That's good.
37:29Actually, Dunk, it's a 2pm concrete
37:31delivery locked in. Tick.
37:33Next mission, find
37:35Phil the concreter.
37:37Hey, Phil.
37:39OK, Benny. Are you concreting
37:41today? Yeah. You reckon you'll
37:43have four barrows left over? No, no.
37:45I've got one truck coming.
37:47Lovett's got a few up here as well.
37:49He's taken off me. OK. If there's any left, yeah.
37:51Oh, if there's any left, yeah.
37:53We don't want to send it back empty. Nah.
37:55I've only got two pee holes.
37:57Thanks, Phil.
37:59Potential free concrete, a definite
38:01possibility.
38:03Phil, what do you think of House 3?
38:05Well, it's the leftover concrete house.
38:07Every day they come and ask, I need this, I need that.
38:09Just leftovers. Very
38:11environmentally friendly.
38:13Yep, that's right, Phil. Very environmentally
38:15friendly and also...
38:17Free, free, free. Recycling wood.
38:19Absolutely. We're recycling
38:21everywhere. This is great. This costs
38:23a fortune. Where'd you get that from?
38:25Spence has it left over
38:27from the
38:29magnificent Alfresco area.
38:31He's got about six of these left over.
38:33I don't even know where I'm going to use it yet,
38:35but I'll take it
38:37down. That's what it's all about.
38:39Comes to the end of this game, you've got to save dollars
38:41and you've got to use it before someone
38:43else does. Which is
38:45a very sustainable concept
38:47unless someone is still using
38:49said goods.
38:51Yep.
38:53Duncan said
38:55you were done with them.
39:03Right. Yeah, I'm just
39:05following orders. Result?
39:07Free timber. Fail.
39:09I'm happy for you to use them, but I will
39:11need them back to finish the roof.
39:13Cool. Let me know when you need them back.
39:15Alright.
39:17I'm struggling to get over that.
39:27Over at House 5,
39:29Christian is still cleaning out the
39:31garage. When is this
39:33ever going to end? Seriously.
39:35And to add to Christian's
39:37misery, foreman Dan now
39:39needs the driveway clear as well.
39:41This is going to be down in about
39:43an hour. Yep. So we're going to get
39:45Kieran from DIY Blinds, we're going to get
39:47him working off a scissor or a boom lift.
39:49Yep. But we just need out here cleaned.
39:51Yep. It's just got to be out of the way
39:53so we can get these blinds in.
39:55So now that the scaffold
39:57is coming down slowly,
39:59DIY Blinds are
40:01coming in and they will be
40:03installing the drop-down
40:05blinds on the balcony. So the way
40:07we envisioned it was, if we had the
40:09drop-down blinds, it could almost be like
40:11you open up the double doors and
40:13you've got an inside and then an outside area
40:15that sort of becomes one.
40:17But DIY Blinds, they need the
40:19driveway cleared out so that they can get
40:21the scissor lift in there. I'm trying
40:23to clean up. All good. Thanks, mate.
40:25****. **** over.
40:29I'm just feeling overwhelmed.
40:31Yeah.
40:33There was a lot happening in my head.
40:35****.
40:39Are you supposed to be helping Christian?
40:41Anton!
40:43Hello?
40:45Um, I'm planning.
40:47Oh, nice.
40:49Whereabouts are you?
40:51I'm upstairs.
40:53Oh, beautiful. Alright.
40:55No worries. Keep doing what you're doing.
40:57OK. I'll chat to you later. Love you, mate.
41:01Mimi!
41:03It just kept coming out!
41:05Christian is
41:07such a patient man.
41:09That's what my parents said.
41:11If it's not Christian, you'll be on your own forever.
41:15I think I agree with your parents.
41:17Should we make Christian noodles? Are you going to take it back to him?
41:19Nah, he's busy.
41:21I haven't smiled for about
41:23two weeks. I **** hate this place.
41:33To see more of The Block,
41:35head online for loads of exclusive extras.
41:37And why not get social
41:39with fellow Blockaholics by giving
41:41At The Block a follow and going
41:43behind the scenes with our teams.
41:53When it comes to landscaping on The Block,
41:55you need to be able to work fast.
41:57So it's paramount to have an
41:59experienced operator in charge.
42:01Unfortunately, Ricky and Hayden
42:03lost not one, but two experienced
42:05landscapers in the lead-up to
42:07our front and backyard weeks.
42:09So the boys were obliged to form
42:11their own start-up company,
42:13R&H
42:15Landscaping Team.
42:17Hard as the saying goes, every good team
42:19needs a good captain.
42:21So this week, the boys have brought in
42:23an experienced horticulturalist
42:25to captain their team, in the hope
42:27of taking out one last big room win.
42:29Katie has like a,
42:31not only is she good at what she's doing,
42:33but then she's good at
42:35governing everyone else and just leading.
42:37She can answer everyone's questions
42:39at the same time and be still doing what she's doing.
42:41She's an absolute weapon.
42:43R&H Landscaping would be nothing without Katie.
42:45Which is a scenario that might
42:47just be put to the test.
42:49So you got paid, did you get paid last week?
42:51No, not yet. Not yet.
42:53Because I just had to, my ABN
42:55number got frozen, so my accountant unfroze
42:57that, so Jenny, I've just sent her
42:59the ATO tax and everything
43:01this morning. We're going to have to get it sorted out
43:03because apparently, it's not, you're not
43:05an employee of Pound Out.
43:07Katie had some issues with
43:09her insurance because I think she came on
43:11working for Dunk, but then switched over to work
43:13as a sole trader for herself
43:15and then didn't have the proper
43:17insurances in check. We'll have to sort it out,
43:19but we can't have you working right now. Absolutely.
43:21Yeah. Alright. Thanks for that.
43:23So just had to send Katie from House 3 away.
43:25She hasn't been signed in correctly.
43:27Her papers aren't up to date or all of her
43:29insurances, so it's not the end of the world.
43:31Everyone's got direction in House 3 on what to do.
43:33She can go away for half a day,
43:35get all this sorted, and come back tomorrow morning
43:37ready to rock and roll.
43:39The whole team fell apart when she wasn't there.
43:41From a landscaping point of view, we were all
43:43scrambling. Yeah, it was bad.
43:45We ordered four cubes of river rocks
43:47and basically screwed the whole backyard.
43:49I didn't want it done there.
43:51Who wants to shovel this?
43:53I can go in there.
43:57Okay, paper, scissors, rock to see who
43:59shovels it.
44:01This looks like a hand job.
44:03A what?
44:05So where are we
44:07putting this? Come on, talk us
44:09through it. Yeah, we got, so in the morning
44:11there's a bit of confusion. We ordered
44:13two cubes of 20mm river rocks
44:15and two cubes of
44:17mixed river rocks.
44:19And... What's the difference for a start?
44:21Mixed river rocks can be anywhere from
44:23like 100mm down to like
44:2510mm.
44:27The ones that
44:29we ordered were 20mm and
44:31the mixed. So
44:33we ended up with
44:35a real mix of all
44:37the 20mm and the mixed.
44:39So...
44:41The original plan was to use the larger
44:43river rocks as a feature between
44:45the garden and the pathway, along
44:47here. With the smaller
44:4920mm rocks used along the thoroughfare
44:51along here.
44:53Not only were the rocks delivered incorrectly
44:55in one big mix,
44:57they were also dumped in the wrong
44:59place. So now the House 3 team
45:01need to move this pile of
45:03rocks to the other side of the house.
45:05If you don't like
45:07shoveling dirt, try shoveling big rocks.
45:09That is not a good
45:11time.
45:19Seriously?
45:21Don't worry,
45:23I've got it fellas.
45:25How long did that take you?
45:27It took each dunk and two
45:29labourers probably
45:31a couple of hours.
45:37Come to the block, do some carpentry they said.
45:43It's got to be done.
45:45Luckily it's only Wednesday,
45:47so we've still got plenty of time.
45:55Then once it was all out the back,
45:57we stood back and looked at it and went,
45:59oh God, what have we just done?
46:03Yeah, I honestly,
46:05in all my days of landscaping,
46:07I haven't seen anything like this before.
46:09No.
46:11What have we just done?
46:13We even got Miles in from
46:15Franklin's landscaping team
46:17and he literally walked in
46:19and said, oh my God.
46:21Yeah.
46:23Oh mate.
46:27Oh, you guys actually did this.
46:33Oh, this is gold.
46:35Yeah, I think
46:37it's definitely not worth it
46:39It's definitely not
46:41what we envisioned,
46:43that's for sure.
46:45You can maybe get toppings on top of it.
46:47That's what I'm thinking, what do you reckon?
46:49Lilladale topping, compact it down.
46:51Lilladale topping straight over.
46:53Just whack it down.
46:55Get it level, that way you're using less toppings.
46:57How do I get it level?
46:59Get a rake and rake it.
47:01So House 3's contingency plan
47:03for their garden path is to now
47:05remove all the large rocks
47:07from the former level base
47:09and then cover said path with a topping
47:11made up of very small rocks.
47:13But unfortunately, these river rocks
47:15are unrakeable.
47:17So now the House 3 crew
47:19have to shift all of the larger rocks
47:21from their garden path by hand.
47:25I'll tell you what, this is the gift
47:27that keeps on giving.
47:33Brad, what are you after?
47:35Caramel latte
47:37and cap with one.
47:39And I'll go
47:41decaf, whatever.
47:43You're after coffee?
47:45Yeah.
47:47What's going on there?
47:49Anxiety.
47:51It does make it worse.
47:53Why do you love Kylie, mate?
47:59I love Kylie because she,
48:01despite what some people may think,
48:03is the nicest,
48:05most giving person there is.
48:09She's
48:11so driven.
48:13We came on the block
48:15because it was always,
48:17it was always Kylie's dream to do it.
48:19She tried every year
48:23and we just wanted to
48:27have an opportunity to set ourselves up
48:29for the family.
48:33The family I hope
48:35I still have.
48:37♪
49:01Can I have a break?
49:07Can I have a break?
49:37♪
50:08If you hand me it,
50:10I'm going to throw it at you.
50:12Do you understand
50:14what I heard?
50:16I feel like something happened.
50:18You've just
50:20completely annihilated
50:22our entire relationship.
50:26Tomorrow night,
50:28as the clock counts down,
50:30big things arrive.
50:32We've got just all our new plans.
50:34How many?
50:36Try 150.
50:38That is enormous.
50:40Oh, that's massive.
50:42Feels like 100 trays.
50:46And with the end in sight,
50:48what can go wrong does go wrong.
50:50All I hear is crunch.
50:52So I've gone through both ends
50:54of the stormwater pipe.
50:56I can't do this today.
50:58I actually can't do this today.
51:00Some slight complications
51:02trying to get the tree in the hole.
51:04No. No.
51:06I was worried about that.
51:08It was a nightmare.
51:10Big chunk.
51:12I wouldn't have set up on my worst enemy.
51:14No.
