00:00Tonight, it's a dirty, dirty week on the block.
00:05That's a lot of dirt.
00:07We landlocked ourselves.
00:08What's wrong?
00:09How you getting concrete in, mate?
00:11With both the soil and tensions rising
00:14as contestants tackle the largest spaces on the block this season.
00:18Concrete is going to be angry.
00:20We don't have one pier drilled.
00:22Ran.
00:23Did anyone read Doug's details on it?
00:26This footing's nowhere near what we need.
00:28Then later, old wounds are reopened.
00:31You just don't ever expect that you would be the reason
00:34a group of eight adults come together and tear you apart.
00:39You guys were all there.
00:41You can't say nobody else.
00:42I said, what do you guys do?
00:44Would you like me to give you my CV?
00:47It was a conversation that I just didn't want to be a part of anymore,
00:50so I left.
00:51Don't need to deal with wires, my God.
00:54And it seems Kylie's mood hasn't improved since last night's judge.
00:58It's not planned well.
01:00This mezzanine has no idea what it is.
01:03The obsession with the black and white has to end.
01:06So if you were going to give some feedback to the judges tonight,
01:09what would you say?
01:10I have nothing to say to the judges.
01:12It feels like only yesterday a blockhead's broke ground on Phillip Island.
01:27But it's actually been 10 weeks of blood, sweat and tears
01:31in bringing these dream holiday homes to life.
01:34And with 75 internal spaces now complete,
01:40this week could only mean one thing.
01:44The landscapers have arrived.
01:49And I can guarantee that our contestants haven't grasped the sheer scale
01:54of what needs to be done this week.
01:56Everyone had sort of mentioned to us that has done the block before
01:59how crazy landscaping week was,
02:02and that it sort of like changes gears a little bit,
02:07which we didn't discover until Monday actually hit.
02:11There was all these extra people.
02:13No idea who they are or what they're doing.
02:16Let me help you out there.
02:18Each house have all trades on site this week,
02:21who specialise in soil work, concrete, paving, decking, plants, fencing,
02:27plumbing, electrics, lawns, tiling, pools and even basketball courts.
02:34So that gives us the final tally of over 100 people on site,
02:38making this the biggest single day of trades across the series.
02:45We all have to work in together to make this work
02:48over the next couple of weeks, starting today.
02:51We've got excavator operators for you, as you guys already know.
02:55So come and see us. You'll be allocated an operator for your house.
02:59Everybody get along, be nice to each other and have a good day.
03:05How you going? Nice to meet you.
03:08Nice day for it. Ready to roll?
03:10Yeah, ready. Ready.
03:12Well, they better be ready because this year the combined total
03:16of all the backyard areas comes in at a whopping 2,269 square metres.
03:22And if that wasn't enough, the resort's communal pool
03:25and surrounding garden will be landscaped by Dave Franklin and his team,
03:29making it an absolutely mammoth amount of ground to cover.
03:33So our blockheads better be focused, right?
03:38We watched the first episode last night. How was that?
03:40Yeah, it was good. It was good? It was good.
03:44OK, maybe not so focused.
03:46They're a little distracted because last night I gathered everyone together
03:50to take a sneak peek at episode one before it went to air.
03:54Well, everyone except Kylie.
03:57I'm going to bed. Thanks, guys.
03:59You're not going to want to miss the show.
04:01Oh, 100% I'm going to want to miss it.
04:05This was the first time the contestants had seen any footage of themselves on TV.
04:12Welcome to the block.
04:14Buckle up, everyone, because this year we're going island-like.
04:20Contestants, prepare to see it for the first time.
04:23Whoo!
04:25Whoo!
04:29My mum thinks that I am a disappointment.
04:35It was quite surreal watching the first episode back.
04:39It was quite amazing.
04:41It's like the sheep took a **** out of our hall.
04:43Oh, my God. That was it?
04:46Do you know when you see yourself on camera or whatever,
04:49you're just like, God, you're so annoying.
04:51Batman would be nothing without Robin.
04:54To be clear, I'm Batman.
04:57That was cool. That was cool to see our heads on telly.
05:00I don't know if everyone was laughing,
05:02and maybe I don't know if everyone was enjoying it as much as what we were.
05:05Bit of a snitch move.
05:06He's a dog.
05:07Rookie, honestly, he's the best.
05:09It's funny. Like, you've got to own what you say.
05:12Get the **** out.
05:13You talk **** about me, you get **** cut.
05:16I think everyone's probably said or done something they probably regret.
05:19You guys are listening to this.
05:20I think you should actually start looking for replacements.
05:25Fresh blood.
05:26So nice to meet you.
05:27Nice to meet you. Are you nervous?
05:29We didn't expect to be featured, but we were featured.
05:31Yeah, that was interesting.
05:33The new arrival, Secret House Flipping Pass,
05:35throws a wrench in the gears.
05:37I was watching videos of you girls last night.
05:39Of us? On what?
05:41Starting out with an ambitious Paul Reno.
05:43People have approached him and asked him directly,
05:45and they've denied it,
05:46and then all of a sudden for it to come out,
05:48and they're still playing it down.
05:49The girls, I think, were a little bit upset.
05:52They had the opportunity to be upfront and be transparent,
05:56but they didn't do that.
05:57They haven't tried anything.
06:02I don't regret anything I said,
06:04because that's how I felt at the time.
06:07But I do regret the body language I was using.
06:10That was inappropriate, that was unnecessary.
06:13And I know watching that can be really,
06:16I don't know,
06:18triggering and confronting.
06:20Yeah, you guys are all welcome.
06:24I'm not sure I would say I was surprised by what I saw.
06:29It's not pleasant,
06:30but I understand we're on a reality TV show,
06:32like this is what we signed up for.
06:34You just don't ever expect,
06:37maybe,
06:38that you would be
06:40the reason
06:42a group of eight adults come together
06:45and tear you apart.
06:51I'm sorry.
06:57Putting all those mixed feelings behind them,
06:59it's now the start of a new week.
07:01And while the landscaping teams get set,
07:04our blockheads are off to check out
07:06last week's mezzanine bedrooms and laundry areas
07:09at the Domain Open for Inspection.
07:12Wow, that is solid.
07:14With only 20 points,
07:15the girls came in last place
07:17due to their non-completed room.
07:19Yeah, we know the girls
07:21worked hard to get those custom bunk beds done.
07:24This is the whole area which you can,
07:26has its own separate staircase, right?
07:28Yeah.
07:29The girls, if they finished,
07:31they would have been up there for sure
07:32because the layout,
07:33like having that separate area is really cool.
07:36I think we were surprised to see the bunk beds
07:38the way that they were.
07:39Yeah.
07:40Imagine trying to make the bed.
07:42You gotta be on it.
07:43It's technically in an adult space.
07:45It'd either be all the kids are up there,
07:47or you would have adults with kids above your heads.
07:49You're not gonna have double adults up there.
07:51Like, that's just weird.
07:53You know that's two queen beds, right?
07:55What?
07:56We were unsure as to how they only lost to us
08:00by half a point when they hadn't finished.
08:03Look at the floor.
08:04Look at the skirtings.
08:05Look at the finishes.
08:06It's incomplete.
08:08Coming last was not a surprise to us at all.
08:10We obviously didn't finish both our rooms.
08:13You cannot expect to do well
08:15if you have paint and plaster all over the floor
08:18and your room is not styled to how you would desire.
08:20Oh.
08:24You're right.
08:26There's zero storage.
08:27Zero storage?
08:29There's a washing machine.
08:30There's a dryer.
08:31We've got a blind.
08:32There's a toilet.
08:33Yeah.
08:34What more could you buy?
08:35A down light.
08:37You've got two toilets downstairs.
08:38Do you need another?
08:39What if someone's on their ****
08:40and you need to do your laundry?
08:42What if someone does their ****
08:43and then you need to come in after and do your laundry as well?
08:51In fourth place, beating the girls by only half a point,
08:54were Christian and Mimi receiving a score of 20.5.
08:59I love this, like, this buttery colour.
09:02I love that bedroom.
09:03That was my favourite bedroom that Christian and Mimi produced.
09:06I like what they've done with that wall
09:08and then all the cabinetry behind.
09:10Like, that's really smart with how much space you get.
09:12Oh, this is what I wanted to do.
09:19I really liked the bedroom with the walk-around.
09:23Yeah, I don't know how they got second last.
09:25Bedroom that should have been the rumpus.
09:27Oh!
09:29Wouldn't this be a better living space than a bedroom?
09:31That's how it was designed.
09:32Well, I guess we can call it now.
09:35It is an error.
09:36This should have been the downstairs rumpus.
09:39When the judges say things that you just don't agree with,
09:42what do I do?
09:43Am I meant to appeal to the judges or just, like, stay true to myself?
09:46I think they were harshly judged for that room.
09:48I think because they didn't make the change in their location.
09:50Oh, no, their laundry.
09:51Oh, and their laundry was great.
09:52Their laundry was my favourite.
09:53I just remembered them.
09:54Yeah, we liked their cabinetry.
09:56Wow, their appliances are nice.
09:58Yeah, I really love this.
09:59This is incredible.
10:00Yeah, I've got to say.
10:01There's so much storage.
10:03This is a laundry that deserves a ten.
10:05Oh, my God!
10:06That's a whole room in there.
10:08How good is that?
10:10See you, mate.
10:12I'll call you.
10:13Riggi!
10:14See you, mate.
10:15Riggi!
10:21Third place for Kylie and Brad on 22 and a half points.
10:25Oh, look at the wallpaper.
10:27I like the art.
10:28I know, I love the art.
10:29That was an artwork, like, perfectly made for Kylie.
10:33There's an echo.
10:36Wee!
10:39Jeez, how's the echo in here?
10:41Wow!
10:42Acoustically, this is...
10:43Not working.
10:45I'm off the judges.
10:46Completely.
10:47All of them.
10:48I think if they had shears, honestly, that would soften the space so much.
10:53Shears in all their upstairs areas.
10:54I don't think they like shears.
10:55They don't like shears.
10:57That's Kinsman.
10:58That's very impressive.
10:59It's a nicely styled room.
11:00I love it.
11:02I like their striped bedroom.
11:03Lack of storage probably got them.
11:08They utilised the space really well.
11:12Oh, yes.
11:16Wow.
11:17So much storage.
11:18Dekton everywhere in this joint.
11:22Coming in second with a thumping 29 points and a 10 from Shaina.
11:27That's like a perfect fit, hey?
11:29Other boys in house three.
11:31To pull off a room that felt so calming and felt very holiday.
11:36Well executed.
11:37Yeah, I was really impressed.
11:39I got a 10.
11:41But they would have won if Courtney and Grant didn't play the penguin.
11:44So then with the sofa next door, this is now a 12 sleeping house.
11:50Which makes it the most accommodation on the block this year.
11:53Wow.
11:54I like the idea of having the kids ward and then the adults ward.
11:57It's not a hospital.
11:58It's a wing, not a ward.
12:01Is there anything in it you don't like?
12:05You.
12:07They were definitely very thought out.
12:09The laundry, the powder room, the storage that they had in there.
12:13Like all the pre-thought and the process.
12:17They done really well.
12:19Wow.
12:20Oh, that's so cute.
12:21I love that.
12:22Wow.
12:23Okay.
12:24They did do well.
12:25Laundry on its own is a 10 out of 10.
12:26Perfectly executed.
12:27This basin's so nice.
12:29This is a nude coat one, Grant.
12:31This little powder room is very well done.
12:33I thought ours was definitely the clear winner.
12:35The judges' scores reflected it was the best.
12:37It was just the penguin.
12:39We'll go down as a team who won the least amount of rooms.
12:43And in first place, through the use of their one-point penguin,
12:46were Courtney and Grant in house two.
12:49It's a creepy lady.
12:50That is so terrifying, the one-armed.
12:52It's beautiful.
12:53I like it.
12:54It's beautiful.
12:55Yeah, it works.
12:56I'm watching you.
12:58Look at her, and then you keep looking.
12:59And then look at her hands.
13:01And then you look at her dog.
13:02Look at her dog's paws.
13:04So, you know how everyone's been talking about these different styles and that, right?
13:07Yeah.
13:08Compared to Steppenjones Japandy.
13:09Yeah.
13:10I've got a new name for the style.
13:12Later on.
13:14Crumpandy.
13:15Crumpandy.
13:16Crumpandy.
13:17Well, based on the laundry, I would have given Ricky and Hayden the win.
13:20If it was based on the bedroom, I would have given us the win.
13:22There wasn't a lot we could do with our laundry.
13:26That's sick.
13:27That's sick.
13:29I don't know how to laundry, so, like...
13:32Oh, my God.
13:33She even put bloody towels in here.
13:35Yeah, see?
13:36That's how it's got to be.
13:37Oh, they've got their stuff in there.
13:39I like that.
13:40House two.
13:41Great.
13:42Should have won without Penguin.
13:51Today is the beginning of backyard and pool week on the block,
13:53and there are no shortage of trades on site.
13:56Over in house five, landscape for Troy has hit the ground running.
14:00That's right.
14:01Troy Lovett is back again.
14:05Bursting onto our screens in Gisborne,
14:07he designed the winning landscape for Tom and Sarah Jane,
14:10as well as returning last year in Hampton,
14:12delivering a stunning oasis backyard for Carl and Lesley.
14:17We were lucky enough to lock in Troy from, I think, the second or third week.
14:22Just in the lead-up to this week,
14:24we've been slowly getting more and more excited to see how he works
14:27and, yeah, how it's all going to come together.
14:30This site is actually very, very tricky,
14:33and they've had some rain over the weekend,
14:35so it's very muddy, and it's quite a big site,
14:37so this is probably the hardest that I will have done.
14:43For each team's total front and backyard landscaping budget,
14:46I suggest that they all needed to set aside at least $74,000
14:51in their Combank accounts, which is still rather tight,
14:54because in the past, winning landscapes have been worth more than $100,000.
15:00We saved 95,000.
15:05Troy said from the start that our budget for landscaping
15:09is going to be, what was it, 90% for the backyard.
15:15House 5 had the largest backyard area this week,
15:18stretching across 552 square metres.
15:21Their design plan currently includes a pool and surrounding timber deck
15:25next to an outside barbecue zone,
15:27complete with a drinks bar in the shape of a boat.
15:30Then, as we head around to the other side of the house,
15:33there'll be a half-sized basketball court
15:35next to their fire pit and seating area.
15:42That's a lot of dirt.
15:43As you can see now, we have got tens and tens of metres of dirt.
15:47120 wheelbarrows.
15:50It's all right. It's a block. We've got to do it.
15:52I've got a plan.
15:53We've got concrete in two hours. We've got a lot to do in two hours.
15:57Look, I really like Troy. He does great work.
15:59He's on schedule, minute by minute, which is what the block is all about,
16:03and he always pushes the limits.
16:05And I know the 96 boys, it gets on their nerves a few times,
16:08but it's a fine line here of bringing too much stock in or not enough.
16:14Having previous experience working on the block is always a bonus.
16:19Across the road in House 1, we have another very familiar face.
16:24Ryan did the block last year for Eliza and Liberty.
16:28I can't believe that.
16:29They had three days' notice last year,
16:31so we thought we would consider it and had a couple of weeks' notice this year.
16:34Yeah.
16:35That's right, baby-faced landscaper Ryan
16:37came to Eliza and Liberty's rescue in Hampton East at the last minute
16:41and delivered a beautiful result for the girls.
16:45It's always good to be back on the show and bigger crew this year too.
16:48What makes it easier?
16:50So there's seven of us.
16:51I've got my brother helping me and Ruby from last year, so yeah.
16:56Corey's got Rio, and we've got Crush Rock coming soon.
17:01We have to get this dug out.
17:04I had $75,000 budgeted for landscaping front and back,
17:11and I knew that backyard would take majority of that.
17:16It's insane the amount of pockets of a backyard that we're creating
17:21that has to get done this week.
17:23It was a lot of different spaces.
17:26Sporting a backyard size of 448 square metres,
17:29Maddie and Charlotte's space starts around the side
17:32with their basketball court and recreation area,
17:35as well as their secret weapon,
17:37a spiral staircase to the first floor of their home.
17:41Then along the back of the house will be their above-ground pool,
17:44barbecue and dining area,
17:46which will then lead on down to the fire pit and pizza oven.
17:50By Thursday, we need to kind of have all the hardscapes in,
17:53like concreting, paving, decking, anything to do with the pool area.
17:58We've got Friday and Saturday did all the softscaping,
18:00so plants, turf, lighting, stuff like that.
18:04Remind me how old you are again, Ryan?
18:0623.
18:08With Gen Z forging ahead in House 1, next door in House 2,
18:12despite Graham being a landscape manager,
18:14Courtney is taking firm control of the budget this week.
18:18So I'm going to do the accounts because you ****ed them all up.
18:20Yep.
18:21What's your take on the budget, Courtney?
18:25Making it rain.
18:27That's been since day one when she spent $15,000 on tiles.
18:31And then I'm going to order the lights.
18:33Lights, lights right now.
18:35Lights now.
18:36Before our 10 grand prize.
18:37OK, OK, do that.
18:38But fans, lights, heaters, we need it all.
18:41We initially budgeted $40,000 for backyard,
18:46but we pushed that to $50,000 when we won last week.
18:50So we got the news on Sunday by Scotty
18:53that Freedom were actually giving us $10,000 in Freedom furniture,
18:56which was incredible.
18:57It saved our ass.
18:59But that's not all, gang.
19:01Freedom are giving each of you $10,000 cash.
19:09Hello.
19:10Hey, Courtney.
19:11How are you?
19:12Good, how are you?
19:13Good to see you.
19:14You too.
19:15I've already spent the 10 grand in my head.
19:17Yeah, it's already spent.
19:18It's already spent.
19:19It reminds me of that classic, it reminds me of my...
19:22Italian palace.
19:24That's what I'm going for.
19:25I wasn't thinking that, but I love that.
19:28Have you got a plan?
19:30In keeping with the Italian theme,
19:32this week Courtney is hoping to use ancient Rome as her inspiration.
19:36Their backyard will feature tall marble columns and archways,
19:40large golden statues of ancient gods.
19:43All the paths will be laid in mosaic tiles,
19:46and while others will have a simple pizza oven,
19:48House 2 will be building a full pizzeria.
19:52That kind of goes with, like, the Mediterranean style.
19:55It does.
19:57Unfortunately, Jack from Freedom says they don't stock any of that,
20:01so Courtney is going to have to pare it back a little.
20:04I need umbrellas.
20:05Yep, alright.
20:06And then outdoor cushions, love those, the striped ones.
20:08I need thousands.
20:09Let's screenshot it.
20:10Yeah.
20:11Here's what Courtney is really planning
20:13for their 403 square metres of little Italy.
20:16Stepping out onto their undercover barbecue and dining area,
20:19their backyard will also consist of a pizza oven
20:22that leads down to their fire pit.
20:24And at the opposite end of the yard,
20:26they'll have their pool and sun deck,
20:28as well as a secondary seating area,
20:30complete with an outdoor fireplace.
20:34Have we got our list?
20:35Yep.
20:36We're ready to go.
20:37Perfect.
20:38You've got your $10,000 from Freedom.
20:39And I've spent it in, what, 10 minutes?
20:40Yeah.
20:41She spends money quick.
20:44Look how happy it makes her look.
20:47Ha-ha-ha-ha!
20:49Back at House 5,
20:50Troy's been able to manoeuvre even more landscaping materials
20:54in before the other houses.
20:56This is because being located at the front of the block
20:59has its advantages today.
21:02Well-managed traffic flow will be the key to success
21:04for all contestants,
21:06because for Houses 3 and 4,
21:08who are located at the back of the driveway,
21:10if other houses, a.k.a. 1, 2 and 5,
21:13dump their materials in the wrong spots,
21:15it could cause a delivery's traffic jam and major delays.
21:21Have we landlocked ourselves?
21:23Which one?
21:24How are you going to get the barrows?
21:25So I'll...
21:26How are you getting concrete in, mate?
21:27How are we... You've got concrete coming.
21:28How are we getting in?
21:29Who put them there?
21:30Remember the first thing that Simo said today?
21:32That pre-start?
21:35You don't remember, do you?
21:39There is nowhere to tip off and store stuff.
21:42So don't start bringing soil in today and go,
21:44I need to store it there,
21:45because it's not happening.
21:46I will send it away.
21:48We just need to make this work together.
21:53Go have a look around the corner.
21:54It's even worse.
21:55I said you could store a little bit of it.
21:57No, have you seen how he's dumped it?
21:58No.
21:59We can't get dirt out now.
22:02Sometimes Troy may be over-prepared,
22:06and rather than getting the deliveries,
22:08like, the day before he needs them,
22:10he'll get...
22:11Like, he got a couple of deliveries today
22:12that we didn't need until, like, Friday.
22:15So I guess he may have pushed the wrong buttons
22:20for the nine and six boys.
22:21Troy had his first delivery waiting for us this morning
22:24when we got to site at 7 o'clock,
22:25and they've been coming ever since.
22:26He also told me at 7 o'clock this morning,
22:28I've only got one delivery today.
22:30Well, that was one delivery from Soilworks.
22:32He's then had many multiple other deliveries
22:35from Mitre 10 and his own truck,
22:37and many things have come today.
22:39So now he's got a heap of stuff in the way
22:41where he needs to get soil out.
22:42So he can't even get all that bulk dirt out?
22:44No.
22:45You're landlocking yourself in there.
22:47Where's the conk truck going?
22:48Going to block the whole street?
22:49I think Troy's got concrete coming soon,
22:52which, again, he needs to be able to get in
22:54to his yard somehow,
22:55which there's a fair bit of stuff in the way.
23:01Day one, landscaping.
23:10It's a very busy backyard week on the block
23:12with trades and vehicles everywhere.
23:14And while the houses at the front of the block are on track,
23:17those up the back end of the block
23:19are starting to feel the effects of the tradie traffic jam.
23:23Being down the end of the block's not great
23:26when it comes to deliveries.
23:27I don't think we've felt it as much
23:30as what we're probably feeling now.
23:32Pretty much every delivery that comes down the back of the block
23:35has to sit up in a straight for two or three hours.
23:37The machines are, for whatever reason,
23:39are all up the other end of the block
23:41and it just looks like we're sort of last in the race at the moment.
23:44Adding to their woes,
23:45the boys lost their landscaper three weeks ago.
23:48Today we got the phone call from our landscaper.
23:51If you can't get the labour, you can't get the labour.
23:53So they had to resort to plan B.
23:55Tell us about your landscaping team.
23:57Who are they and how did you get on to them?
23:59We've got a gun team coming on, R&H Landscaping.
24:02What do you know about them?
24:04What do we know about them?
24:06They're strapping lads.
24:08They're young, they're fit, they're firing.
24:10They're creative, educated.
24:12Plenty of ideas.
24:14Hilarious, absolutely hilarious dudes.
24:17And I reckon we're going to get along just fine.
24:20Are you confident they can pull it all off?
24:22No, we're not confident in them at all.
24:24But you've got to start somewhere.
24:26There's a lot of prep work that has to get done
24:28for us to even get started to decking, get started to grass.
24:32So that's what our landscape is.
24:34It's deck, grass, plants, no paving.
24:36It's the most sustainable we can be.
24:38That's right.
24:40Wicked Hayden will have 488 square metres
24:43of environmental sustainability.
24:45Heroed by their large wraparound lawn,
24:48providing plenty of room for all sorts of kids' activities,
24:51including a large swing set.
24:53Then at the far end, they'll have their big pool and deck area.
24:57We budgeted $105,000 for landscaping.
25:03And split between front and back.
25:05I think we had budgeted $60,000 for the back
25:09and the rest for the front.
25:13This huge amount of cash was helped by the $50,000 they won
25:17back at the Domain Buyers' Turing.
25:19Which means our winners are...
25:22our number three!
25:26We could win the block now.
25:28Winning that $50,000 cash, we knew that we'd just gone
25:31from pushing barrows ourselves
25:33to being able to finish on a very strong note.
25:35And it's about to get stronger,
25:37because these boys scored a 10 at last night's judging,
25:40and I've got some very rich morning tea to share with them.
25:44Oh, hello, boys.
25:46Oi!
25:47Well, it's midday.
25:49Hey.
25:50Good as time as any to have smoke, Aaron.
25:52It is, mate.
25:53I mean, I don't know what you blokes like for morning tea.
25:56Bite the corners off a Tim Tam, mate.
25:58Oh, yeah? All right, there you go.
26:00That's yours. What else have we got?
26:02Oh, salted caramel.
26:03Oh, the Choc Ribble.
26:05I don't mind the raspberry shortcake.
26:07I'll tell you what my favourite one is.
26:09$10,000!
26:10Oh, mate, I'll take that. Don't give that to him.
26:12He snatches everything.
26:14That's my favourite morning tea.
26:16That's good.
26:17It's 10 grand from Arnott's.
26:18We need it.
26:19Big Vickies.
26:20The Big Vickies, 10K, straight in the bank.
26:22Has Cale's got a casino by any chance,
26:24or probably I can double this.
26:26Our money's going quite quickly into landscaping,
26:29so that 10K will be well spent very quickly.
26:35We have $89,000 left,
26:39and we are splitting 37,000 backyard, 37,000 front yard.
26:44To have a little bit either side as a buffer
26:47was where we needed to be.
26:49With the smallest backyard on the block,
26:51coming in at 378 square metres,
26:54Cale and Brad's space will consist
26:56of a stone-cladded plungy pool,
26:58timber boardwalk and large stone pavers.
27:01Behind it, there'll be a fire pit area
27:04with a wrap-around stone bench,
27:06as well as a narrow yard leading around
27:08to the side of the property.
27:10There they'll have a private entrance
27:12to the communal tennis court,
27:13which Brad managed to get over the line a few weeks ago.
27:17Does anyone have anything they want to vote on?
27:20Is anyone opposed to us putting a gate into the tennis court?
27:24Some people were a bit shocked that I even suggested it.
27:28I hadn't even run it by Kylie yet.
27:30I have no problem with it.
27:32Anyone else?
27:34Awesome, guys.
27:36And this week, Brad's forward planning is coming to fruition.
27:40That is, if he can ever get any machinery down onto his site.
27:44Navigating the driveway seems to be the biggest obstacle
27:46at the moment.
27:47There's a lot of scaffold still to be removed from site,
27:50so the sooner that's out of the way, we might have some space.
27:53Not only is it just the deliveries that affect us
27:55at the back of the block,
27:56but even just trying to get an operator or someone's attention
28:00where you need something done.
28:02They've got to drive past every single house.
28:04And then for them to come to us,
28:05they need a clear run of nobody in the driveway.
28:08Have you liaised with Nextdoor to use the same concrete truck?
28:12Because ideally what we don't want is everyone using their own truck.
28:15I just thought I'd come down to House 4 just to explain to them
28:18if you're going to order concrete,
28:19you should actually order it with House 3.
28:21We've got so much happening here in the main street,
28:23we can't have two trucks coming at two different times.
28:26It doesn't make sense.
28:27So I've got Brad to ask Duncan, let's just use the same truck.
28:31That way it's one pour for both houses.
28:33The frustration of things not going your way,
28:38I think, has probably been the most tolling.
28:42There's so much going on, you know.
28:44I just think it's going to be so f***ing epic when it's all done.
28:47What do you think?
28:48Hell yeah.
28:49We only need to go to Freedom, so it's fine.
28:50Yes.
28:51This week was organised chaos.
28:53On Monday I went shopping with Kylie.
28:57And we had a look at all of the outdoor furniture.
29:01I actually still had $10,000 of bookmarks left over,
29:04so I've got 20.
29:06My favourite place to be?
29:09Where I feel completely free.
29:13Freedom was wonderful.
29:15This is outdoor?
29:16They're all outdoor.
29:17I purposely think that Freedom have been like,
29:21we have a girl that loves black, we need more black.
29:26There were black cushions, black vases.
29:29I'm glad they waited till week ten.
29:31Yeah.
29:32My favourite colour of black.
29:34You spent ten grand.
29:36I don't know yet.
29:37I told Jack just to let me know.
29:42There's one I want to show you over there.
29:43It's the Cairns range.
29:45Oh, OK.
29:46Cairns?
29:47Cairns.
29:49The name of the collection was called Cairns.
29:52That's how I say it.
29:53Yeah.
29:54Everyone's like, what are you saying?
29:55I'm like, Cairns.
29:56Cairns.
29:57So I was like, very fitting.
29:58Spelled differently, but still the same.
30:00Cairns.
30:02Welcome to Cairns.
30:04And it's like, warm.
30:05I thought it was going to be grey.
30:06Like Cairns.
30:07I do miss Cairns.
30:09Like, more than I should right now.
30:12Just looking out at my view over the pool.
30:15It's very nice.
30:17Top up, please, husband.
30:20I'm sure most Cairns people are like, stay down there.
30:22Bye!
30:32It's Manning backyard and pool week on the block,
30:35with trades flooding in from everywhere.
30:37Especially in house one,
30:39because Maddie and Charlotte are about to add a whole bunch more.
30:43Sorry.
30:44That was really scary.
30:46I was thinking it didn't go flying.
30:48We pulled our high pages lever.
30:51We lit our flare.
30:53OK, I'm a bit nervous for this.
30:56Whoa!
31:00Whoa!
31:01Orange!
31:02And then all of a sudden, Scotty pops out of nowhere.
31:05Hello, Scotty!
31:06Scotty, help!
31:07There was an emergency.
31:08Save me, please.
31:09I just rode all the way from town.
31:10I saw the emergency smoke.
31:12I know, we need you.
31:13What do you need?
31:14We're doing a dream court here,
31:15so we need all the hands on deck we can get.
31:17And also, girls, high pages are giving you 5,000 cash as well
31:22to put towards something in the project.
31:24Do you think about anything like that?
31:25Yeah, we've already got something figured out.
31:27We're going to get some stairs.
31:29Oh, yes.
31:30Because we don't want to just have a door and then you...
31:32That's your entrance there.
31:33Yeah, so we're going to put it towards our spiral staircase.
31:36Nice and spiral stairs.
31:37Spiral stairs.
31:38Oh, spiral.
31:39Yeah.
31:40Great.
31:41All right.
31:42Thanks, Scotty.
31:43The job will be away.
31:44We will.
31:46All hands on deck.
31:47As many guys and girls as we can get there we want
31:49because we cannot do it without them.
31:51All sorted.
31:52So is our backyard going to be finished this afternoon now?
31:54Not finished, but it'll be close.
31:58He asked us
32:00to be your angels
32:03and we said,
32:05We are, but men rock.
32:09With all the trusted trades the girls have been able to get,
32:12it means they've now been able to receive
32:14soil prep sign-off from Doug the engineer.
32:18So, framing-wise, you're pretty cool with it all?
32:20No.
32:23This also means they're the first to get their concrete truck on the site
32:27to lay the foundation for their basketball court and recreation area.
32:34They have to get it in reasonably quick and just screed it nice and flat
32:37and then the guys from Dream Court come in
32:39and put their basketball court down on it.
32:46This is going to be a fire pit.
32:49I think it's spaced out nicely.
32:50At least this feels a bit more secluded.
32:52I'm glad you pushed him with his decision.
32:53I think so, yeah.
32:54It's what I like.
32:56Chris, it's too early to be a group of my wife.
33:00Looks like Courtney Grant's concrete is the next to arrive.
33:04However, Doug is yet to sign off House 2's fire pit foundations.
33:08Oh, Dougie.
33:09What have we got here?
33:10Got another slab ready.
33:12Doug the engineer is on site all week
33:14so that any approvals can happen straight away.
33:17Grant.
33:18How are you, mate?
33:19Good, mate, you?
33:20Just here.
33:21Yep.
33:22This is your bench seat, fire pit?
33:24Yes, yep.
33:25Did anyone read Doug's details?
33:27Did anyone read Doug's details on it?
33:29No, because we didn't receive any.
33:31I gave these out to the builder this morning.
33:35Oh, OK, so it was only just this morning.
33:37It's been a bit of chaos.
33:39Yeah, this footing's nowhere near what we need.
33:41OK.
33:42You actually need piers.
33:43Yep.
33:46A pier is a pillar made of concrete
33:48that goes deep into the ground to support the foundation
33:51of the structure that is built on top of it,
33:53ensuring lasting stability.
33:55Obviously, things are going everywhere,
33:57so we missed that detail in regard to what we need for footings,
34:00but, look, it's an easy fix.
34:02Nothing's been poured.
34:03So, yeah, we'll get that rectified.
34:05We've got the deck obviously currently being started,
34:08so I think it's a good day one.
34:15It's a different story over the road in House 5
34:18where they've managed to clear some space from their driveway
34:21to get their concrete truck in.
34:23I definitely think being the first house,
34:25like, closest to the road is an advantage
34:27because the trucks only have a small spot to deliver to,
34:32whereas Houses 3 and 4 will have to, you know,
34:35worry about what Houses 1, 2 and 5 are doing
34:37before the trucks get down there.
34:39We had concrete delivered today
34:41because the concrete was pre-ordered.
34:43Clever, cos not everyone did that.
34:45Oh, really?
34:47How did they get it?
34:49That's right.
34:50That's right, Houses 3 and 4
34:52didn't pre-order their concrete like the others.
34:55But after Brad and Ricky's builder Duncan
34:57placed a joint last-minute order this morning,
35:00they've just received a delivery window.
35:02That is a lot sooner than Brad expected,
35:05given that his ground prep work isn't even ready.
35:08Brad, you got concrete in an hour.
35:11You're nowhere near ready.
35:12I know.
35:13What are you gonna do?
35:14Try and make it happen.
35:16I guess it's that shock of week one all over again
35:19is people who have obviously done it before
35:22already know all these things.
35:24Like Troy at House 5.
35:26I think the biggest thing on a site like this
35:28when there's so many people
35:29and everyone's being pulled from pillar to post,
35:31you have to communicate well.
35:32Dirt against the house, no more digger.
35:34If you kill my dirt, it's moving closer.
35:36So I'm trying in my best efforts to organise with 9 and 6
35:39where I'm getting my things delivered
35:41and getting the OK before that gets happened,
35:43double-checking with Gary on the gate
35:44to make sure that he's happy with it.
35:46We've just got an excavator here
35:48right where our truck's gotta go.
35:50So I'm just trying to massage nicely
35:52for him to get the machine out of the way.
35:56Troy likes to push things to the very limit.
36:01It's there to get this machine going.
36:03You've said there's a few things, some obstacles.
36:06Just the machine.
36:07Don't be a kiss.
36:11What's wrong?
36:13You just can't get Gary angry.
36:16If you get Gary angry, we don't get deliveries.
36:18We don't get deliveries in, we don't get anything done.
36:20So we've gotta massage Gary
36:22to make sure that we get deliveries in here.
36:24Everyone's running at full max, ready to explode.
36:27If something goes wrong,
36:28everyone's happy to shoot the messenger sort of thing.
36:31So, yeah, no, we're going all right.
36:33Who's the messenger in this case?
36:35Oh, me. Shoot me.
36:37Well, it seems the traffic jam tensions have reached boiling point
36:40because House 4's Mitre 10 delivery truck
36:42has decided it can't wait around any longer.
36:46Barry and Mitre 10 have been super helpful.
36:48They've often come at the drop of a hat many a times
36:51to give us what we need.
36:53And then for him to sit out there for 2½, 3 hours,
36:57it's just absolutely ridiculous.
37:01Yes, mate?
37:02Is Azza still here, please?
37:05No, he's gone, mate.
37:07Oh.
37:08He left.
37:10He couldn't wait.
37:12He was sick of waiting.
37:14I'm here.
37:15They told him, they told him,
37:16no, you're not coming in here.
37:18I can't afford to have guys sitting down doing nothing
37:21while the customers are all waiting.
37:24They've turned around the delivery.
37:26What delivery?
37:27For the timber, for the steel,
37:29for everything that we ordered from Mitre 10.
37:31Because of the congestion in the driveway,
37:33Mitre 10 have got other customers that they need to still service.
37:36The steel that's on the truck I need for the concrete
37:39that was meant to be arriving 15 minutes ago.
37:44At the moment, nothing's getting through.
37:52There's a tranquil feeling washing over the block today.
37:56A serenity and calmness that goes hand in hand
38:00with a well-managed start to Backyard Week.
38:03Breaking ground has never been this well organised,
38:06especially when you look at the impressive progress
38:09of House 1's basketball court,
38:11House 2's fire pit
38:13and House 5's barbecue area.
38:16That's right, everything is going exactly to plan.
38:21Just don't head to Houses 3 and 4.
38:27Dunk, is the concrete coming soon?
38:29There sure is concrete coming soon.
38:31We're ready, we sure are.
38:33The concrete is going to be angry.
38:35We don't have one pier drilled,
38:37we don't have one hole drilled,
38:39but we do have a slab around the back.
38:41I think we're the last house to have any machines
38:43actually do work on it, which puts us behind the eight ball.
38:46But this auger in House 4, he's got two more to do.
38:50So Brad will pour his concrete first
38:53because he's slightly ahead.
38:56But we'll try.
39:01Tonight we're hosting our first Chumps dinner.
39:04I mean, it was about time, you know.
39:06We had to share the love, you know.
39:08Popped over to Audi and I'm going to cook up
39:11a delicious lamb shoulder
39:13marinated in yoghurt and turmeric with a side of rice.
39:16Probably need two.
39:18Some hungry people around.
39:20May need a bit more food though
39:21because I think this will only feed Rikki.
39:23What else are we getting?
39:25I'm sure Brad would appreciate some Rio rides from Aisle 4
39:29because while he's managed to get his Martin 10 delivery truck
39:32to turn around and come back,
39:34it won't be there before the concrete truck.
39:36So he's on the hunt to see if he can find some Rio
39:39from somewhere else.
39:41Is that your bar next to the rotunda there?
39:44Yeah.
39:45Martin 10's on his way
39:46and the concrete truck's out the front.
39:48Six sticks.
39:49Yeah, take it.
39:50Make sure you put it back tomorrow.
39:51It'll be back this afternoon.
39:52Every house I've given it to, the whole day.
39:54I promise it'll be back.
39:55So with the borrowed steel now in House 4
39:58and the auger having finally drilled holes for House 3,
40:01both teams are going hell for leather
40:03with their concrete that's just arrived,
40:05which needs to be poured before the end of the day.
40:09Yeah, I don't know if an R&H landscaping expected this.
40:12They knew it was going to be hard,
40:14but if this is a taste of how the week's going to go,
40:18it'll be interesting to see if this breaks or not.
40:23The top end of the block,
40:25I've already got posts coming out of the ground
40:27ready for subfloor tomorrow
40:29and we were lucky to even get concrete.
40:33I said there was 15 more holes in it.
40:36Baptism by fire.
40:38While R&H landscaping race the clock,
40:40it's last night's winners, Courtney and Grant,
40:42who are packed and heading off for their Ford getaway.
40:46I need food.
40:48I need food.
40:50This is what my life is.
40:51I need food.
40:52I'm angry.
40:53I've got my period.
40:54You know what you are?
40:55Oh my God, Courtney, I'm not going to finish the roof.
40:59Only twice.
41:03Sounds like a night away is very much needed for these two.
41:06Tonight they'll be staying at Currajong Winery Estate in Gippsland
41:10and dining with me and some very seasoned block royalties.
41:13It's another day for you.
41:15You and me in paradise.
41:19It was beautiful.
41:20Like the drive, we drove the Mustang.
41:24Checked in.
41:25It was beautiful.
41:26Oh, hello.
41:27Hello.
41:28How are you?
41:29Went to do with Scotty and then we met with past contestants.
41:32Dale and Sophie meet Courtney and Grumpy.
41:36How you doing?
41:37How are you?
41:39Nice to meet you.
41:40If you could take my heart away.
41:42Dale and Sophie first appeared on the block in 2012,
41:45walking away with $355,000.
41:48Go in, it's gone.
41:52Dale then returned the following year for All Stars,
41:55stepping in to help out a very familiar face.
41:58I don't think the judges particularly like my style.
42:01Hopefully they'll like Dale's.
42:03He then finished his hat trick in 2014's Fans vs Faves with best mate Brad.
42:08I'd like to throw a leg over if that's all right.
42:11That's fine.
42:12So there's no shortage of experience at the dinner table tonight.
42:15Cheers everybody.
42:16Congratulations on the win.
42:19Welcome Sophie and Dale.
42:22Beautiful.
42:23Now you remember guys last night I said bring your plants.
42:26Bring your landscape.
42:27Because Dale is a landscaper extraordinaire.
42:30Love it.
42:31I'll give you one of them.
42:32Might be easy for you to look at on your own.
42:35Dale and Sophie, they're very pared back people.
42:38Simplicity is the way and I think that's,
42:41it was a gentle reminder that you don't have to go all showy with a garden.
42:45It can be really practical.
42:47You can route out like just a simple track that runs through the top of the timber arbor and down
42:54and you can put strip lighting and stuff in that now.
42:56That's a good idea.
42:57It becomes a real feature at night time.
42:59He gave some real good advice which we kept in the back of our mind throughout the week
43:03was softening the hardscapes.
43:04Talking about a feature tree, as big as you can get would be my recommendation.
43:09But trees can be expensive.
43:11Soph, can you help me out?
43:12Will this help?
43:13Five.
43:14$10,000 from Ford.
43:17I'll control that because otherwise it'll be spent before we leave tonight.
43:21I've also got something to give you guys.
43:23What have you got, mate?
43:24I don't like to flog myself too much, Scotty,
43:28but there's an outdoor reno guide you can briefly read overnight
43:33and if there's not enough tips in that and you don't think you're going to get through the week,
43:37I've also got this one.
43:43Did you come up with a name, Scotty?
43:45I wrote that book 25 years ago.
43:49Mate, but the hairline stayed the same.
43:51It's only the colour has changed a little bit.
43:55Can you just pass the classic over?
43:57Just pass it over for two secs.
44:03Scotty, I feel like my experience is made.
44:07You'll lose points for styling on that.
44:11Modelling, mate.
44:16I've been waiting on the sunset
44:18Bells on my mind say I can't deny
44:21Today has been a whirlwind start to Landscape Week.
44:24Despite delivery dramas for houses three and four,
44:27up the front of the block, Troy and his team in house five
44:30have had a very productive day.
44:34We've dug out today, I'm not even exaggerating,
44:37160 cubic metres of dirt, poured 70 squares of underpave.
44:41It was a very big day to make sure that we were organised today and we were,
44:44so that was unreal.
44:45And it looks as though, despite the delivery chaos,
44:48houses three and four have also managed to pour all their concrete just in time,
44:53which means everyone is still on track to have their backyards completed by Sunday.
44:59But if anyone falls behind this week,
45:01it could result in a losing chumps dinner cook-up.
45:06Let's have a kitchy.
45:07I want to have a kitchy.
45:09Our first losers' dinner.
45:11Smells good.
45:12Yeah, invite everyone over.
45:14And turn.
45:15Honey.
45:16Hello.
45:18Hello.
45:19For a lovely, wholesome family meal.
45:23Until...
45:25Dun, dun, dun.
45:26Oh, you brought dessert, did you not?
45:29Oh, thank you.
45:31The dinner was delicious.
45:33I'm impressed with their cooking skills.
45:35But it got heated very quickly.
45:37Rikki liked to ask some pretty hard-hitting questions.
45:40I was concerned how the girls may have dealt with the first episode
45:44because there was some honest opinions from other houses on their arrival.
45:50And I was concerned about, you know, whether they were right dealing with that.
45:55How did you guys feel when you saw people talking about you last night?
46:00To be upfront and be transparent, but they didn't do that.
46:04Rikki decided to bring up last night's episode that we all watched
46:09and just kind of was asking how people felt about it.
46:12I think they're the most hated people on the block at the moment.
46:14Yeah, literally.
46:15I think they would all have been aware that it was pretty confronting
46:18to sit in the same room as eight other people
46:20who were talking badly about you.
46:24There was some honest, straight, you know, face-to-face feedback
46:28There was some honest, straight, you know, face-to-face feedback
46:32from house four about them thinking the girls are liars.
46:35If you had your time again, would you have done anything differently?
46:42Rikki asked us specifically, do we regret anything?
46:48I'm not sure I necessarily regret it
46:50because you never took the time to get to know us
46:53and you never took the time to ask us questions.
46:56So I don't know what there is to regret.
46:59We felt like when we came in, we didn't really have the opportunity
47:04really to share much about our lives or what we did
47:07because we never really were asked.
47:09We asked you guys straight up.
47:11You were both standing there and we asked you what you did for work.
47:15You might have, and we would have shared what we do
47:18because we do multiple things.
47:20So the disagreement is that the girls said that
47:24they were accountants at the start and had business degrees
47:28and didn't say that they also renovate on the side.
47:31There's been a rumour flying around that you guys flip houses.
47:35We have multiple jobs, but we do have investment properties.
47:39But also the properties that we're flipping are going for $800,000.
47:44Think about your age. That's such an achievement.
47:50Us telling you that we work in finance and accounting is 100% true.
47:54They thought that that was all a lie
47:58and we actually are just property flippers.
48:00And I'm like, no, no, no, no.
48:02We have multiple, like, I guess...
48:06Sources of income.
48:07Because to pay a mortgage, we have to do other things on the side.
48:10Yes, we do property flipping.
48:11Yes, we do accounting work.
48:13Yes, we do babysitting.
48:14Yes, I babysit. Yes, I do some marketing.
48:17Would you like me to give you my CV?
48:19So you did tell Mimi that you also flip houses,
48:22but she hasn't passed that info on?
48:25Yeah, I don't really know what people's problem is.
48:31You should just 100% be honest and be like, this is what we do.
48:33Well, it's not that we were not honest.
48:35The thing is, like, we might do that in our life.
48:39The conversation just kind of kept going around in circles
48:43and it just wasn't going anywhere and I couldn't deal with it anymore.
48:47So I left.
48:50You don't need to deal with bull**** lies, my God.
48:54It was a conversation that I just didn't want to be a part of anymore.
48:58I took what I thought was the more mature stance and just was like...
49:06I'm not going to sit there and have them blatantly lie to my face.
49:10No, you did the right thing.
49:11**** me.
49:12I was pretty **** jack of it as well.
49:14I've got no time for the ****.
49:18I felt so sad that Kylie and Brad couldn't take the time to hear us out.
49:26They didn't even give us an opportunity to speak.
49:28I felt so sad that we couldn't just have a reasonable adult conversation about it.
49:32After that, I won't be **** dealing with them
49:35because they sat there and blatantly lied to our faces all over again.
49:39And I get that they're young and that they're a little bit more immature,
49:44but if we're all mature enough to be on a show like this,
49:46you're still mature enough to stand up and be honest.
49:49I've kind of made my mind up.
49:53Tomorrow night...
49:54Managed chaos or like some sort of chaos symphony.
49:59There's friendship highs...
50:01Baby, what the ****?
50:04And friendship lows.
50:06When we first came in,
50:08it was kind of probably going to make us seem like liars.
50:12Then, landscaping tensions reached boiling point.
50:15See, landscaping week is crazy.
50:16This is next level.
50:18You're not blocking me in the dark.
50:19No, no.
50:20It's not all about you.
50:22Dean, I'm doing one.
50:23Gary, Gary said to do it, mate.
50:26I understand, but you've got to understand five houses.
50:29What's the point of the board?
50:30Yeah, well, we might as well throw the board out.
50:32What's the point of the board?
50:33Yeah, well, we might as well throw the board out.
50:35Not working.
