00:00Hello, I'm Prerna Chandel and I'm standing outside the world's largest library.
00:04Yes, you heard that right, Library of Congress is unlike any other library in the world.
00:09The Library of Congress was named the Jefferson Building as a tribute to former President Thomas Jefferson.
00:16Today, John Adams and James Madison Buildings are also part of the Library of Congress
00:23as an honor to these two presidents for their commitment to improving the library and the United States.
00:29My favorite president from the past is Abraham Lincoln, just because you see so much of him here.
00:36I live near his second White House in Petworth, so he's a pretty cool dude and he saved our nation from splitting.
00:43Which is your favorite president from the past?
00:45I don't have a favorite president.
00:47That's okay.
00:48Oh, and what are some of the issues that you feel very strongly about?
00:52I'm going to go with the classic Abraham Lincoln.
00:54Theodore Roosevelt.
00:56And why?
00:57He was aggressive.
00:58Probably FDR.
01:00From the past, I'd say I like Barack Obama.
01:05I think he was a very articulate and fair president.
01:09And he had no controversy his entire eight years, except for wearing a tan suit.
01:16And that's pretty amazing.
01:18Barack Obama.
01:19Mine is John Quincy Adams.
01:21Barack Obama.
01:23I think as a great moral thinker, I would say Thomas Jefferson.
01:27But he was a slave owner, and that's something that I wouldn't be in favor of.
01:33My favorite president is Abraham Lincoln.
01:36The Library of Congress houses more than 100 million books, maps, recordings, and manuscripts,
01:43including items from Thomas Jefferson's personal collections.
01:47The library was created to assist members of Congress with research,
01:52and even today it serves as a haven of knowledge to Congress
01:56and the people dealing with issues at this point in America.
02:01I feel strongly about how divisive our country has gotten over the past eight years,
02:09and it's a shame.
02:11And I'm not sure how you can fix that, but that's a concern to me.
02:15As a 36-year Air Force veteran, I, too, believe we should have a strong military.
02:23So it's kind of an anomaly for somebody who's been voting a Democratic ticket.
02:28But we did vote for summer.
02:31We keep an open mind.
02:32I think we're almost independents the way we vote, and women's right as well.
02:39I think that's important, too.
02:40I don't like the way the Roe v. Wade just seems to have gone away over the past few years
02:47with these Supreme Court justices that have been placed.
02:50The fight for climate change, I think it's an existential threat to everyone here across the world.
02:56It doesn't matter where you live.
02:57United States, China, everyone needs to play an impact and a role in fixing the situation.
03:03I feel very strongly about trans rights,
03:05and I think it's important for all of us to accept everyone as they are and how they choose to be identified.
03:10Right now in America, divisions between the population,
03:17the misinformation that's making people sort of look at their neighbors as an enemy.
03:30Now preserving democracy.
03:32My top issue right now is abortion.
03:36I really liked his work in legal stature for the Amistad
03:42and making sure that enslaved people and African American people got representation
03:47and more freedom within our country.
03:50And what are some of the issues that you strongly feel about?
03:53So women's reproductive rights.
03:56And I also feel very strongly about supporting our military.
