As the 2024 U.S. elections approach, a historic shift in voting habits is evident, with over 17 million Americans already participating in early voting. This significant turnout reflects a growing preference for casting ballots ahead of Election Day, driven by the desire to avoid crowds and long lines. With various options available—including mail-in voting and in-person early voting—Americans are seizing the opportunity to make their voices heard well before the official election date.

00:00Most U.S. states have begun early voting in some form, and now more than 17 million Americans
00:07have already cast their ballots.
00:09Across America, there are policies that allow for ballots to be cast by mail, in person
00:15at early voting sites, or voting in person on Election Day.
00:19Voting habits have forever changed after the COVID-19 pandemic, and now most Americans
00:25prefer early voting in order to avoid crowd.
00:28Hi, I'm Prerna Chandeliya, and today I'm at one of the ballot locations here in Washington, D.C.
00:33Being a non-citizen, I'm not supposed to be in there, but let's ask some of the Americans
00:37of who they prefer and how they prefer to vote.
00:40And did you vote this election season?
00:42Yes, I did.
00:43What was your preference?
00:44I voted Republican, all down the line.
00:49And did you vote in person or through mail?
00:51It was through mail.
00:53I will be voting in November.
00:54I did vote for the last presidential election.
00:57I voted in person yesterday.
01:00I usually lean liberal, and usually for the Democratic Party or the Green Party.
01:06Last time I voted through mail, this time I will be voting in person.
01:09I do.
01:10I was actually strongly considering voting for the American Solidarity Party candidates,
01:17but that wasn't an option on the D.C. ballot this year, so I didn't.
01:21I do, but they never seem to have any traction.
01:24I think the last time we had somebody who got any was probably Ross Perot.
01:29I know that when Gore and Bush were running, who was that guy, Ralph Nader?
01:36He seemed to draw some candidates, too.
01:39But it's usually never enough, and it just causes damage to one party or another.
01:44I think when Perot ran, he cost Bush the election, and when Ralph Nader, he cost Gore the election.
01:53I think people are kind of gun-shy about any third party at this point.
01:57What do they pick up?
01:58One or two percent of the votes?
02:00It's negligible.
02:02I really think that the two-party system hurts America.
02:05I really wish that there were more parties to vote for, that it wasn't just throwing
02:08away your vote if you voted for an independent party.
02:12I don't agree with all independent parties, but I do enjoy the Green Party.
02:15I enjoy some of the things of the American Solidarity Party, and I do wish that it wasn't
02:21just two choices to choose from.
02:25As people flock the early voting centers, it is yet difficult to judge the overall turnout.
