00:00All right, what's up guys, MKBHD here, and this is an updated what's in my tech bag 2019.
00:15The everyday carry, the daily driver, whatever you want to call it, this is that.
00:18So I've been pretty picky about backpacks, I've had maybe three in the last nine years
00:24of being a student and carrying books and things like that, that was always the same
00:27type of backpack.
00:28But then this one got recommended to me.
00:30It's easily the most expensive backpack I've ever bought, but it's very different, and
00:35that's kind of what inspired this update.
00:37So this is by Peak Design, it's the everyday backpack, that's the 20 liter version, there's
00:41a bigger 30 liter one, but this is my everyday carry, I don't need that much space.
00:46Yes, I know there's a matte black version of this, but I got this charcoal one because
00:51of the red accents, so I know.
00:52So with my previous bags, it was kind of like a big empty space, which is great as a student
00:57minded person carrying books and stuff like that, but this is divided up, it has a ton
01:02of features, it's very different.
01:04So this is everything that I carry now in it, this is what's in my tech bag 2019.
01:10So I still don't know if this qualifies as a tech backpack, because it doesn't have any
01:15battery banks in it or any solar panels built in, but it has so many features.
01:21I didn't realize a backpack could have this many features.
01:23It has more than I'll ever use, but it's got all kinds of magnets and compartments and
01:27latches, and it kind of starts right here at the top.
01:30Actually you know what, I'll start with the smartphones that I carry every day, since
01:32people will be asking that.
01:34It's still the OnePlus 7 Pro as the daily, and the iPhone XS Max, Space Gray, Nebula
01:42Blue, those are the smartphone daily drivers of choice when I'm not testing other stuff.
01:47Alright, so into the bag, it's got this metal latch as you can see, and you pull it down
01:52and it sort of unhooks from any one of these levels on the inside.
01:56So if you have a lot of stuff in the bag, you can hook it up to a higher angle, or lower,
02:02or lower like that.
02:03It's kind of great.
02:04There's magnets.
02:05I really like it, and that just exposes the top of what's in the bag, which is just my
02:09everyday carry thing of the day.
02:12For me, that's the headphones, and they are still the Sonys that I've had for the past
02:18couple months.
02:19I did really like the Bose, but these are still my go-tos.
02:22And then it's kind of empty.
02:23As you can see in there, it's a good amount of space for that top third of the bag, but
02:27if I had more stuff in there, like extra shirt, or a jacket, or things like that, then I would
02:32just sort of latch it up there.
02:34It's weather resistant, so water just kind of falls right off the top of it if I'm in
02:38the rain.
02:39It's pretty sweet.
02:40Okay, so getting into the side.
02:42This bag is kind of designed so as you're carrying it, you can take it off, and it's
02:45got handles on the side, and it's also fully accessible via zippers on the side.
02:51So if you want to extend it and just kind of have it like a messenger bag style for
02:55a bit, you can do that.
02:56And then you get to what's inside the bag, which for me, is a good amount more than I
03:01could put in my previous backpack.
03:03So you can see the top third is empty now that the headphones aren't in there.
03:07And then in this middle third, this is a camera that I'd carry every day.
03:10This used to be the Hasselblad.
03:11If I'd carried this in my old backpack, it would just kind of be loose in the backpack,
03:16which was kind of weird.
03:17So it's great that this is a bag made for camera stuff, and it's more secure.
03:21And the camera of choice is no longer the Hasselblad, at least for now.
03:25I've been really enjoying the Canon EOS R, and this is the gigantic 28-70mm f2 lens that
03:31they've made for it attached.
03:33It's obviously with this lens bigger than the Hasselblad, and there's some things it
03:36does better, some things it does worse.
03:38It's not a medium format 50 megapixel camera, but it's much faster.
03:42It takes great photos with, I mean, it's 30 megapixels still.
03:45It's not like it's soft.
03:46And then, of course, there's all the advantages of Canon.
03:48Their color science, dual-pixel autofocus is very fast.
03:52They do a lot of things well.
03:53I don't shoot much video, at least right now, on the Canon EOS R. I have another camera
03:58in mind.
03:59I'm actually testing for that.
04:00But that's the camera and the one lens that I do carry in the middle third of the bag.
04:04Then in the bottom third of the bag, I have just kind of the charging accessories.
04:07If I was carrying a laptop, I would have the laptop charger down here, too.
04:11But spoiler alert, I'm not.
04:13Either way, I have a battery bank.
04:15It's more in case of emergency, because I usually keep things pretty well charged.
04:18But this is Anker's 26,800 milliamp-hour battery, which replaced the 20,000 milliamp-hour one
04:24I carried before.
04:26But all the same features, 18-watt charging, USB-C in, and it still has that little sweet
04:32charging indicator.
04:33And it's wrapped in a dbrand skin, so you can actually skin your Anker batteries now.
04:38And I have the McLaren edition OnePlus 30-watt charger.
04:42It's the same as the current 30-watt that comes with the OnePlus 7 Pro, but it's a little
04:47more fancy orange with this braided cable.
04:49And that pretty much takes care of the actual insides of the bag.
04:52You can access it from either side.
04:54So if I swap over here to the other side, so you kind of get used to having the handle
04:58of the camera that you want to get to quickly always on one side, so you always know where
05:02to open it to pull out the camera and start using it, which is pretty cool.
05:06And then inside, there's actually these little wings.
05:08They have zippers in there, and there's stuff that you can put in these compartments too.
05:12Now, like I said, I don't carry a whole ton in the bag.
05:14So there you have the one pen I carry, and I think I have some contact lenses in there.
05:19Then on the other side, there you go, business cards, another pen, and a Sharpie up here.
05:23And again, like I got so picky about backpacks, but there's just so many things, little things
05:27about this bag that are sweet.
05:29One thing is the anti-theft zipper.
05:31So it has a zipper both at the top, at the bottom.
05:34But if you want to go ahead and pop this off and latch it around this here, then when someone
05:38tries to yank the zipper down, it won't come off.
05:41And then these pockets over here on the side, which have magnets in them to close them,
05:45they expand and they're great for an umbrella or something like that.
05:48And just to show you how little of the features I use in this bag, there are so many latches
05:52and things to attach.
05:54If you want to put a tripod on this bag, you can wrap it around and buckle it in like that.
05:58There's also more latches down here, close with magnets if you ever want to do that.
06:03I'm probably never going to do that with this bag because it's my everyday carry, but it's
06:07that modular if you want it to be.
06:08Now, you're probably wondering where's the computer and all that main stuff, because
06:14I haven't gotten to the top yet, which is the other main compartment.
06:17So on the top here, there's actually multiple compartments to fit different types of computers.
06:22In the back is the deepest one for a 15-inch laptop.
06:25In the inside here, which is a little shorter, that's the 11-inch iPad Pro I've been carrying
06:29that I've been running that iPadOS 13 on that I kind of still feel like is doing the job
06:35for everything I need it to.
06:36And then in the very top, there's this little pouch that's a little more shallow.
06:40It's microfibered.
06:41It has a bunch of small things in it.
06:42In there, I have a Canon EOS R battery.
06:45I have a MKBHD Edition microfiber, which is pretty sweet.
06:48And then a couple other small things.
06:50I have the Matte Black Everything AirPods.
06:52I have my Vanja little SD card reader.
06:57I have my Apple Pencil here, and I have a SD card reader.
07:02And at this point, the bag is now empty.
07:05So it's pretty lightweight, and that's the charcoal and the red and black.
07:10And that's what I've been carrying every day.
07:12I'm getting on a plane tonight.
07:14I'll have my noise-canceling headphones and things like that with me.
07:17But other than that, it's not too crazy of a tech bag.
07:20I kind of mentioned last time that's like why I wanted to share it is there's so many
07:23like super high-end, very expensive tech bags out there.
07:28And this is a little bit more of a minimal setup.
07:30So maybe it'll give you some ideas for your own, or if you want to give me some ideas
07:34for things I do in the future for my tech everyday carry, feel free to leave them in
07:37the comment section below.
07:38Either way, that's been it.
07:39Thank you for watching, and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
07:43Peace.
