00:00Hey what is up guys, MKBHD here, and this is the iPhone 11.
00:09So it's a solid improvement over the iPhone XR in a couple ways.
00:13It's a bit cheaper than the pros now, it's got a price drop, so this is the new iPhone
00:17that most people should buy.
00:21That was easy.
00:29Too easy actually.
00:31Everything about this phone is so easy.
00:33It's going to be super easy to review because there's so few things but such obvious things
00:37that are different from the XR, and of course this is a super easy phone for Apple to make,
00:43and so this is a super easy phone to recommend.
00:46Maybe this is the easiest video I've ever had to make, but probably not.
00:50Let's just get into it.
00:51So the design is very familiar with this one because it's the same as the XR and the XS
00:57Same shape, same notch, same size as the XR, it's still a pretty big phone.
01:02Same mute switch, same speakers, same aluminum rails, same lightning port, same LCD display
01:08with a 1792x828 resolution that has us all questioning a lot of things like not being
01:14able to watch HD YouTube videos on a $700 phone.
01:18But hey, people other than reviewers didn't seem to mind a lot last year.
01:22Same water resistance, same IP68, same buttons.
01:26You get the idea.
01:27So okay, what is new?
01:28First of all, the name.
01:29So they're calling it just iPhone 11.
01:31So it's the de facto standard name now.
01:33And that also means they're dropping the Roman numerals, which is also probably fine because
01:37we all know a couple of people that just called it the X over and over.
01:41That's okay.
01:42And the iPhone 11 has six new colors.
01:44So black, green, yellow, purple, red, and white.
01:49And they're all more pastely.
01:51So like the product red this year is a little lighter than the product red from last year.
01:55I personally liked the color choices of last year's XR more actually.
02:00I think the blue is pretty nice.
02:01The coral was really unique, but those are all gone now.
02:04But I guess there's still a little bit of something for everyone.
02:06If you are looking to get a little closer to that stealth midnight green look, but don't
02:10want to spend the money on the 11 Pro, you could always grab a dark green skin from our
02:14channel sponsor dbrand.
02:16And boom, you got yourself a stealthy new iPhone for $715 instead of 1000.
02:22I will of course always drop a link right below that like button.
02:24But if you rock your phone naked like me, you will notice there are two different glass
02:28finishes on the back of the iPhone 11.
02:31There's glossy like normal across the back where the Apple logo is now in the middle
02:35instead of slightly north of the middle.
02:37But the camera square is actually a matte glass finish now.
02:40So the opposite of the 11 Pro, which did a matte phone and a glossy camera square.
02:45And you might've already known that, but what you might not know is that they're all cut
02:48from one piece of glass that's milled down to cut the shape out of it and then two different
02:53finishes.
02:54So that's pretty cool no matter what you think of the shape.
02:57And then we'll get to, of course, these cameras in a second.
03:00But the size and the thickness and weight are exactly the same as the XR.
03:04So it's still 8.3 millimeters thick, still 194 grams according to Apple's site.
03:10But you do now have a battery life that according to Apple is one hour longer than the iPhone XR.
03:15Now again, I don't measure battery the same way Apple does, but the iPhone XR already
03:20had some of the best battery life in any iPhone in a really long time.
03:24And it was the reason that a lot of people who got it kept it and switched to it.
03:28So I can confirm that the 11 has at least equivalent battery life to the XR as it should
03:33now that it has a more efficient A13 bionic.
03:36So then the only other thing that's new is the cameras.
03:40And this is easily the biggest new thing about these.
03:42So there's a new main camera and they've added a second camera to the iPhone 11 and it's
03:46the ultra wide.
03:48So you now get dual cameras and all the awesome features that come with it, like switching
03:51between lenses while recording video.
03:53So you get 4K video from the regular and from the ultra wide camera.
03:58iPhone 11 does portrait mode now with more than just human faces.
04:01So it doesn't have to detect a face to do the fake shallow depth of field with animals
04:06and objects and other things like that.
04:09And there's also a new wider front facing camera that can take slow motion videos, can
04:15take slow motion selfie videos if you want to.
04:19So the only thing that's missing is you don't get the third telephoto camera from the iPhone
04:2311 Pro.
04:25That's not a huge deal to me.
04:26And both of these two new included cameras are excellent.
04:30They're A plus smartphone cameras in 2019.
04:32I do go into more detail on the photo and video quality in the iPhone 11 Pro review
04:36for these new cameras.
04:37So if you want to check that out, I'll link it below.
04:40But suffice to say, this is the best camera in a $700 smartphone.
04:45Debatably, arguably the best in any smartphone.
04:48But I still think it's sort of a toss up with the Pixel 3.
04:51But then again, this has the ultra wide camera that the Pixel 3 doesn't.
04:55But also the Pixel 4, depending on when you watch this, is right around the corner.
04:58So we'll get to the full camera comparison when they all come out.
05:01But for now, if you want a great camera, this is a great camera.
05:04And then they changed the price.
05:06They dropped the price.
05:07So iPhone 11 now starts at, and this is for 64 gigs, and I think most people or a lot
05:12of people should upgrade from that.
05:14But it starts at 700 bucks now, which sort of fits nicely in this gradient of iPhone
05:19prices that Apple has created now that they've kept around the XR from last year for cheaper
05:24and the iPhone 8 for even cheaper.
05:27And that is pretty much everything you need to know that's new with this iPhone 11.
05:33Easy.
05:34iPhone 11 is an iPhone XR with a slightly new design, new cameras with an extra camera
05:39on the back, a slightly better battery, and a new chip.
05:43That's it.
05:44Now the question is, do you recommend it?
05:46And I think the easy answer is, yeah, this is the iPhone that most people should get.
05:51But for a little more nuance, I think you should really ask yourself two questions.
05:55One, how much do you really care about the quality of this screen?
05:58The biggest weakness of this phone is definitely still the display.
06:02And again, a lot of people won't even notice.
06:04And the YouTube app, I noticed, even lies to you and lets you pick 1080p as if you're
06:09watching a 1080p video.
06:10But you're not.
06:11It's at just over 720p.
06:14So if you look at the iPhone XR display, or if you look at this iPhone 11 in a store
06:18and you can tell it's not sharp, or you really value a great display and you know it, I'd
06:24say pick one of the high-resolution OLED iPhones, the XS or the 11 Pro.
06:29And then the other, number two, is just the size.
06:32How do you feel about the size of this phone?
06:34I actually really like that the iPhone 11 Pro is a relatively compact smartphone by today's
06:41standards anyway.
06:43So if you look at the 6.1-inch screen size and it's actually too big, if you've handled
06:47an iPhone 11 or XR, then you could go for the slightly smaller, better display in the
06:53iPhone 11 Pro, which will cost you more, but it's smaller.
06:57Or if you think it's not big enough, you can go for the bigger iPhone 11 Pro Max.
07:02Oh, and there's another one actually, which is just, are you on a budget?
07:06Which just generally will put a lot of people in the camp of buying the cheaper iPhone,
07:10but combo breaker, they are still selling iPhone 8 and iPhone XR, and I think iPhone
07:15XR at 600 bucks is more competitive if you don't care about the second camera or the
07:20camera upgrade.
07:21Small group of people, but if you have to get an iPhone, that's one to consider.
07:24But that is pretty much it.
07:27They did it.
07:28They made an iPhone 11 that's easy to recommend, and it's the new iPhone that people buying
07:33a new iPhone should probably just get.
07:36But that's what happens when you make some improvements on one of your most popular
07:39products and drop the price a bit and rename it to just the de facto iPhone.
07:45But I also can't let you forget, the weight of the 2020 iPhone is heavy on the horizon,
07:52and it's definitely too early to get excited for that.
07:54It's another year away for that phone, but that's where I'm looking.
07:58Either way, thanks for watching this super easy video, and I'll catch you guys in the
08:03next one.
08:04Peace!
