00:00And we get to Jets Steelers.
00:07This back-end one here though is for a little bit of different reason, it's not that we
00:11have two of the best teams in the league going head to head, it's that we have two circuses
00:15showing up and they're going to put on their acts all at the same time.
00:18Quite frankly, the Jets conversation has gotten enough juice that I'm going to make sure we
00:22start with the Pittsburgh end of it, and I'm going to let Donnie lead off here.
00:25Donnie, the Steelers, with the dumbest charade I've ever seen played, shout out George Pickens.
00:34We don't know who our quarterback's going to be, yet everybody in the world knows Russell
00:37Wilson will start tonight for Justin Fields.
00:40What do you make of that move?
00:42What does it mean for Pittsburgh?
00:43Most people that understand football knew Wednesday when the reports came out, hey by
00:46the way, Russell's going to take the majority of the first team snaps.
00:49That means you're going to be the starter that weekend.
00:50But I do love the fact that Mike Tomlin loves to keep everything inside, and for some reason
00:54he can't reprimand or scold George Pickens for whether or not he even wants to play in
00:58football games, run the correct routes, or even just give information off.
01:01Last time we saw a wide receiver giving off information with a cell phone in the locker
01:05room, what happened?
01:06It was Antonio Brown, and he was shipped out quickly after that.
01:09So if we are focused on this game, let's just start with Russell Wilson starting as a quarterback.
01:13Everybody knows me.
01:14Love Mike Tomlin, thought he was the best coach all along for the past decade.
01:18Making the right move to shift it over today.
01:20I like this move because for the first time, not buying into the Steelers, but understanding,
01:25sometimes it's not about winning on a game-to-game basis, it's how good can we be for the season.
01:30This team will not reach its potential with Justin Fields, and I'm not even saying it's
01:33going to reach it with Russ.
01:34The one thing we do know is Russ can play point guard at quarterback, Justin Fields
01:39cannot do that.
01:40Good move to change the starting quarterback.
01:42I disagree.
01:43That's from the passing perspective.
01:45The ability in the RPO game for what Justin Fields provides, 11 carries last week, 59
01:51yards, two touchdowns, and the ability just to break and tame when the offensive line
01:56breaks down is something that Russ hasn't done over the latter part of his career.
02:00And that's the concern that I have for Pittsburgh, not in just this game, but big picture for
02:06the team overall.
02:07And the locker room, I understand that, okay, you got to buy into the guy on the center.
02:12He's the leader.
02:14The coach makes the decision.
02:16But you have a player in Justin Fields that's four and two overall.
02:19Three of the wins have come on the road.
02:22You can make the argument they could be five and one if the defense makes a stop at home
02:26against the Dallas Cowboys, and then you're going to turn to Russell Wilson.
02:30What happens, Kev, if this team drops two games, they're four and four, and Russell
02:35Wilson is giving you the exact same productivity as Justin Fields?
02:40You're going to go back to Justin Fields then?
02:42Why'd you make the move in the first place?
02:44Yes, so they will go back to Justin Fields at some point this season.
02:47That's crazy.
02:48They are putting in what is comfortably a worse quarterback.
02:52It's an embarrassing decision from a coach who, quite frankly, needs to be put on the
02:55hot seat because I don't understand what he's doing anymore.
02:58I really don't.
02:59By the way, they'll go back to Justin Fields, 31 in the red zone.
03:01No, no, no.
03:02Perfect.
03:03Perfect today.
03:04I will take any action that he gets back on the center this season.
03:07In fact, in fact, I'm open to the theory that he is sending Russ out there against
03:14the Jets to get destroyed, and Fields will get the job next week against the Giants.
03:20Here's what I don't understand.
03:22You keep undercutting what Fields does as a runner because you have to to even attempt
03:27to make the Russell Wilson argument.
03:29It is nonsensical because you cannot ignore what Fields does as a runner for this team.
03:36In that process, then, we keep propping up Russ as a passer despite being a terrible
03:42passer since he left Seattle.
03:44His yards per attempt is the same as Fields.
03:48The deep ball accuracy is gone.
03:50The balloon ball that he used to throw and then lock it was underneath every single Sunday
03:56does not exist.
03:58You're asking him to play point guard because of a completion percentage that isn't better
04:03than Justin Fields.
04:04He is just a worse quarterback across the board and then doesn't provide the mobility.
04:10This is an insane move from a coach who clearly got caught promising a guy a job he never
04:17should have promised him.
04:18No, but he would never go back to win that respect here.
04:20I didn't like the way it started out.
04:22I'm on record as saying that if you're going to get Russell Wilson, let him be your starter.
04:24If you're going to get Justin Fields, at least open it up as a fair competition throughout
04:28training camp.
04:29And they didn't do that in Pittsburgh.
04:30That was unless Russell Wilson was absolutely injured, and he was, he was going to be the
04:33starting quarterback, which he wasn't.
04:35But as we move forward, it's just it's sometimes it's so simple to see the body language of
04:39the wide receiving court.
04:40That's George Pickens, who, quite frankly, I'll admit, doesn't have great body language.
04:44But if you have wide receivers that understand when they run routes, Joe, and they're not
04:48going to get the football accurately, it blows up your entire offensive scheme.
04:52The fact that George Pickens was willing on a Wednesday or Thursday to sit in front of
04:56the microphone, though, my coach has told me this, but you know what?
04:58I can't stand Justin Fields so much.
05:00I'm telling you right now, I'm probably wearing a tuxedo to the game on Sunday afternoon.
05:05How excited I am, because I might actually get an accurate ball.
05:08He caught seven passes for a buck 13 against Indianapolis.
05:12I mean, he threw for 300 yards.
05:14Can I bring up this point?
05:16What happens tonight if Arthur Smith calls this vanilla conservative game plan, right?
05:23And they win 17-13.
05:24Brilliant.
05:25I mean, that's what we do.
05:27Like what are we doing here?
05:28I don't think that matters.
05:29Arthur Smith couldn't game plan B. John Robinson in that offense last year.
05:34We're going to count on Arthur Smith to elevate this offense now with Russell Wilson.
