00:00What's up guys, today we are going to revisit the Galaxy Note 9 in 2023.
00:06Still a pretty awesome flagship and a lot of people consider this flagship to be one
00:10of Samsung's best phones of all time, which I totally understand and also a turning point
00:18for Samsung for a lot of Samsung fans because this is where when you get to the Note 10
00:24and beyond, they start to actually take stuff out like the headphone jack and then we know
00:28later on Samsung decided to take out expandable storage and stuff like that.
00:33So definitely I can see why people thought after this series, the 10 series in general
00:38with the Note or the S series was sort of like a downturn for Samsung as far as the
00:44power user experience goes.
00:47This is a really solid phone, they're going for like $180 right now and I know a lot of
00:53people in my comments like to use this phone as a backup phone and a secondary phone or
00:58whatever and if you are looking for an older flagship, definitely would look for like a
01:03Note 10 Plus or S10 Plus just because they're getting security patches and they're on a
01:07later version of Android.
01:09This one I believe is stuck on like Android 10 and I think it's done getting security
01:13patches actually.
01:15So yeah, so let's go ahead and revisit this phone, let's see how it does in 2023.
01:20It's actually still a pretty impressive phone.
01:22I want to talk about the screen on the Note 9 because I think it's still very impressive
01:26even in 2023.
01:28It's a 6.4 inch 1440p display and it has 516 for the PPI so it's very sharp when it comes
01:35to looking at icons and just a high resolution display.
01:38Also what's pretty cool about the screen is that it doesn't have any type of notch or
01:42punch hole in it so you can sort of enjoy the content on the screen uninterrupted and
01:47I really appreciate it, really more so when you're watching YouTube videos and stuff like
01:52that, just not having to see any sort of punch hole or notch when you go in full screen
01:59I think is pretty cool.
02:00And if you guys want wallpapers, check out the link down below in the description box.
02:06But yeah, I really like the screen on here, it's got a curve to it as well and I think
02:10it still looks really good.
02:11I think really the only thing that's kind of, you can say that's dated about it is maybe
02:15the bezels and then maybe it doesn't have any 120Hz or 90 refresh rate or something
02:20like that.
02:21But it's still really good, it's still a very smooth display even for a 60Hz panel.
02:27So yeah, I really do like the display on here.
02:29Let's go ahead and talk about performance on the Note 9.
02:32So it's pretty interesting, so the Snapdragon 845 still does a pretty good job on here.
02:38We also have again SD card support, 128GB of internal storage and 6GB of RAM.
02:43I was just playing a couple games on here and it still runs really well.
02:48Now of course you're not going to get the best settings, like there's no HDR extreme,
02:52but it does play pretty well on HDR Ultra.
02:56But I like to play on smooth, you know, the highest frame rates.
02:59But it does a pretty good job overall with gaming performance, like I said, you can pick
03:04this phone up today and casually game on it, no problem.
03:08And the Snapdragon 845 doesn't get as hot as these 8 series chips as well too, so you
03:13can sort of play for long periods of time without it really getting super hot.
03:18Yeah, so I actually think the performance on here is pretty good.
03:21And just in general, the phone is just pretty smooth.
03:25So as far as the animations go, bouncing in and out of applications and stuff like that,
03:32just web browsing, just doing basic things on here, the phone has remained really, really
03:36smoothly smooth.
03:38So I can't really, you know, complain about the performance on here.
03:42I think it's still pretty decent actually for all these years.
03:46So it just goes to show how, you know, flagship phones, they're really built to last a pretty
03:51long time.
03:52Because if you compare this to a $200 phone, it'll still benchmark higher than like your
03:58average $200 phone, and overall, the performance will be better.
04:02So that's one of the cool things about, you know, older flagship phones is they have such
04:07high lifespan.
04:08All right, so let's go ahead and talk about the pen.
04:13So coming from the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the pen still feels pretty smooth, actually.
04:22Now with the S22 Ultra, it does feel a little bit more instant.
04:26But even on the Note 9 here, it still feels really nice.
04:31So I really like it.
04:32I think it's pretty nice.
04:33The pen is still very high quality as well too, and you have pretty much a lot of the
04:38same features that you would find on the S22 Ultra here.
04:44Now of course, you know, the newer version of Android have a little bit more, but a lot
04:48of the essential stuff and important stuff, you still actually have on here.
04:52So that's one thing that I really like.
04:54And one of my favorite features with the pen is to be able to take pictures with the S-Pen,
05:01or to be able to snap video as well too, and from a distance.
05:05So that's pretty cool as well.
05:07So the pen still works really well on here.
05:10You can even do digital artwork.
05:12That's how accurate the pen is.
05:14Let's go ahead and talk about the additional features here.
05:18So we do have on here still Samsung desktop support, NFC.
05:22This phone is IP68 dust and water resistant, as well as wireless charging.
05:26Still has a lot of the bells and whistles that you would find in the newer phones.
05:30The fingerprint scanner is physical, and it's on the back.
05:33The only thing about the fingerprint scanner for me, since the phone is kind of big, it's
05:36kind of a stretch to unlock this phone for me.
05:41So I wish it was a little bit lower, but you get used to it.
05:45You just have to position your hand kind of, like shimmy the phone.
05:48I think that's only if you have kind of smaller hands though.
05:51Speaking of the fingerprint scanner, or the back of the phone, the design on here is still
05:57pretty decent.
05:58I can see this phone.
05:59The phone has definitely aged.
06:00When you compare it to a Note 10 Plus, S22 Ultra, you definitely tell it's an older phone.
06:05And it's really because of the camera cutout here.
06:08I think it just makes it look a little bit older than newer phones.
06:13But honestly, it still feels great in the hand, and I love this purple color as well
06:17too.
06:18It just looks really nice.
06:20And overall, it just feels like a 10.
06:22Just a really well, solid phone on here.
06:25And also, they have some pretty cool additional features on here, like the iris scanner.
06:31A lot of people say it's gimmicky, but it's fine.
06:35It kind of works.
06:36Stereo speakers on here are pretty solid.
06:38So you actually get pretty good volume out of this top speaker as well too, which is
07:05pretty sweet.
07:06So feature-wise, this phone still has a lot going for it.
07:09Now, I did want to talk about the cameras on the Note 9.
07:12So you do have a dual camera setup on here.
07:15It's a 12-megapixel standard and a 12-megapixel telephoto.
07:18It does do 2x optical zoom.
07:21And then we also can shoot in 4K60 with an 8-megapixel selfie cam.
07:25And then we have that 2-megapixel dedicated iris scanner.
07:28We also have 1440p video on the front and shoots in 30 frames.
07:34So the image quality on the Note 9, I think, still looks pretty decent.
07:39Now, again, compared to the newer phones, Samsung has made some pretty massive strides
07:44in the cameras that they put in their phones now.
07:47They have crazy zoom quality and better low-light performance and stuff like that.
07:53Overall, stills on here are pretty decent.
07:56Again, sometimes you can get kind of soft-looking shots if you're not in the best lighting.
08:01If you're in good lighting, I took some shots and I thought they were pretty sharp and clear.
08:07Yeah, I didn't think they were too bad at all.
08:09So if you're in good lighting, you can still actually get a pretty good shot out of this
08:12phone.
08:12You'd actually be surprised.
08:14But anything less than that, it'll sort of be a little soft.
08:17But I really like the color it was putting out.
08:19And the video, I thought, was pretty solid as well, too.
08:23So I don't think the camera has aged really badly.
08:27I think it's actually pretty fine, especially in good lighting.
08:30Still takes a really nice, high-resolution-looking shot.
08:33Now, let's go ahead and talk about the battery life.
08:36So this phone does have a 4,000 milliamp battery.
08:39It's got 15-watt charging with wireless charging.
08:42And battery life is just kind of OK on here.
08:45My phone, my battery might be just old, right?
08:49But I can still get close to around five hours of screen-on time out of this phone, which
08:54I think is pretty decent.
08:56But yeah, battery life is not too bad on here, considering that it's an older phone.
09:01But yeah, I remember battery life being pretty decent on here when it first came out.
09:05It wasn't terrible.
09:07But the Note 9 is a pretty good device still.
09:09Even in 2023, it still has a very good screen.
09:13The Snapdragon 845, I think, is holding up really well.
09:16I'm surprised at how well it just games and how well it flies in and out of applications.
09:21You'd expect it to be kind of lagging and stuff like that.
09:23But that's not the case.
09:24This phone is still relatively fast.
09:26Everything still works on here.
09:28S Pen screen still looks good.
09:30Then you have the headphone jack and SD card support still.
09:34So what do you guys think about the Note 9?
09:36Do you guys think this is Samsung's best device that they have made?
09:40Be sure to let me know in the comments down below, and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
