00:00Hi, welcome back to my channel, in this video, I will explain the ending of The Doll Factory,
00:04so let's begin.
00:06The Doll Factory, created by Charles Miley, is based on the book written by Elizabeth
00:10McNeill.
00:12The series promises to be a critique of the time when society was scared of the female
00:15gaze and did everything in its power to suppress it.
00:18There were many talented female artists, but society made sure that nobody knew about them.
00:23Here's everything you need to know about the ending, just to let you know this video will
00:27contain spoilers.
00:29The twin sisters had a cordial relationship, or at least that's what it felt like in the
00:32first three episodes of The Doll Factory, but soon, we realized that Rose had a lot
00:36of issues with Iris.
00:38Rose had smallpox when she was 16, and the illness left a lot of scars and indentures
00:43on her face.
00:44She was beautiful and still was, but obviously, the beauty standards of society made her feel
00:49like she had become a monster.
00:51She had a boy in her life named Charles, and she believed that Iris had brought him to
00:55see her on purpose when she was ill so that he would get disgusted by looking at her face
00:58and leave her.
01:00Rose harbored these misunderstandings for a very long time, and when Iris decided to
01:04leave her and work for Louis, she got even more aggravated.
01:07But deep down, Rose loved her sister, and she was her biggest cheerleader.
01:12The conflicts they had were resolved later in the series when they had a confrontation
01:15of sorts.
01:17What was Louis lying about?
01:19Louis Frost came to Iris and asked her to be his model.
01:22It was not a very respectable job at that time, and Iris was a bit skeptical about it.
01:28Iris told Rose that she was completely opposed to the idea, and the latter got very angry
01:31at her.
01:33Rose told her sister up front that she shouldn't even entertain the thought of doing that work,
01:37as her image in society would get tainted.
01:39The mindset of Rose served as a critique of those items when women were oppressed and
01:43brainwashed into believing that being miserable and dealing with hardships was an integral
01:46part of their lives.
01:48Mrs. Salter didn't treat the sisters properly, and her rude behavior helped Iris make a decision.
01:54She left the doll emporium and went to work with Louis on the condition that he would
01:57teach her how to paint.
01:59Louis and Iris started working together, and we saw that not only did Iris get really good
02:03at painting portraits, but her perception through her female gaze taught a lot of things
02:06to Louis.
02:08Iris worked really hard on a painting, and the way it came out, she was very sure that
02:12she wanted the world to see it.
02:14She had made up her mind to get in touch with the Royal Academy so that her painting could
02:18be put in the upcoming exhibition.
02:20But one night, her painting was destroyed, and Iris got to know the next day that it
02:24was Louis's iguana who had done that.
02:27Eventually, Iris bought whatever lies were fed to her, but the truth was that it was
02:30not the animal behind the act, and Louis knew about it.
02:34Louis had hidden the fact that he was married to a woman named Sylvia and that he had a
02:37son with her.
02:39Sylvia was suffering from some mental disorder, and she had these extremely violent fits where
02:43she became uncontrollable.
02:45Louis found it better to hide from the world rather than deal with the embarrassment.
02:49Iris found out about it when, one day, a little boy came running towards Louis and addressed
02:53him as his father.
02:55Iris was heartbroken, but Louis told her that he was scared that if he told her the
02:58reality, then she wouldn't accept the offer.
03:01He said that he never planned on falling in love with her, but when it happened, he became
03:05scared that she would leave him the moment she got to know that he had a wife.
03:09Why Did Silas Kidnap Iris?
03:11Albie worked for Silas, and that is why he always said that he was a dangerous man.
03:16At first, we thought that that perception was probably because he was a taxidermist,
03:20and the work was kind of creepy for a few people.
03:23But soon, we realized that Albie's perceptions were not baseless and that there was something
03:27about Silas that no one knew about.
03:29We knew that Silas shared this very sweet bond with Iris in the first three episodes
03:33of The Doll Factory, but it was at later stages that we got to know about his sinister intentions
03:37and that he was suffering from schizophrenia.
03:40Iris never met the man and it was all happening in his mind.
03:43He created an entire storyline where he met Iris on a regular basis, and they were pretty
03:48close to each other.
03:49He went to confront her when she didn't turn up for the great exhibition, and it was at
03:53that moment that even Silas realized that something was not right.
03:56She left the scene, but he was not done.
03:59We knew to what extent he could go, as he was the one who had killed Bluebell at the
04:03beginning of The Doll Factory.
04:05Silas kidnapped Iris, and the poor girl didn't even know why he was doing all that.
04:10He kept her hidden in his basement for days in terrible circumstances, and that's when
04:14Iris got to know that this man was completely insane.
04:17We are never told explicitly why Silas was like that, but we believe that a traumatic
04:21childhood led him to this situation.
04:24It is hinted in one of the episodes that his own mother despised him and probably that
04:27had an adverse impact on his mind.
04:30Silas had always been lonely, and he craved some company.
04:34He also killed Gideon, and Albie even saw him in the act.
04:37After Gideon's death, Silas started hallucinating and seeing him too, and we realized that Bluebell
04:42was the first person he killed.
04:44Silas wanted Iris to accept him in her life, but obviously, that was not going to happen,
04:49and it was just a matter of time before Iris escaped.
04:52Was Iris able to escape from captivity?
04:55Albie figured out that Iris was in trouble when he found out that Silas had gotten a
04:58letter from the clerk to inform Iris about her sister's accident.
05:02Silas called Iris to his place and then drugged and chained her.
05:06Albie would have told Rose about it, but before that, the poor boy got hit by a horse wagon
05:10and met his fateful end.
05:12Luckily, Louis found out about that letter, and he reached Silas' home to check if Iris
05:16was there.
05:18Both Rose and Louis felt that there was something wrong with the man, but they were not able
05:21to find him and ultimately had to leave.
05:24At the end of the doll factory, even Madam came with a police constable to Silas' house,
05:28as through Albie she got to know that a feather that belonged to Bluebell was found in his
05:31house and she knew that it was Silas who murdered her.
05:34But she didn't have any concrete evidence, and Silas couldn't be arrested.
05:38Finally, Iris decided that she had had enough and that she would have to give it her all
05:42if she wanted to escape from there and stay alive.
05:45She punched Silas when he came to the basement to check upon her, and she was able to get
05:49the better of him.
05:51She crushed his skull and beat him to death.
05:54Iris was able to escape from her prison at the end, and her circumstances were unable
05:57to defeat her.
05:59During the doll factory's ending, we saw that Iris' work was exhibited at the Royal Academy,
06:04and she got the acclaim she thoroughly deserved.
06:06It is possible that it was merely a figment of her imagination, but we would like to believe
06:10that finally, society was ready to accept the female gaze and be mesmerized by it.
06:15That's all for now folks, I would appreciate it if you could give the video a super thanks
06:18with a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel so you can see more content like this every
06:22day, take care, bye!
