00:00Hi, welcome back to my channel. In this video, I will explain the ending of The Consultant
00:04Season 1. So, let's begin.
00:07Based on the eponymous novel by Bentley Little, Amazon Prime Video's thriller series, The
00:11Consultant follows Regis Padov, who joins the video game publisher CompWare following
00:15the death of its founder Sang-Woo.
00:18Created by Tony Bogallop, the series progresses through CompWare employees Craig and Elaine's
00:22attempts to unravel the mystery behind the newly appointed consultant, who brings radical
00:26changes to the company and its operation.
00:29Using Christoph Waltz as the titular consultant, the series explores the nuances of a modern-day
00:33workspace where competitiveness overshadows principles.
00:37The first season of the series ends with astounding revelations one after the other and if you
00:41are trying to make sense of the same, you are at the right place, just to let you know
00:44this video will contain spoilers.
00:47The Consultant begins with a group of middle school children meeting Sang-Woo, the founder
00:51of CompWare, as part of a study tour. One of the children, named Tokyo, kills Sang using
00:56a hidden gun.
00:58While the CompWare employees mourn the death of their admired head, a consultant named
01:01Regis Padov assumes Sang's office with a contract signed by the latter, which gives the new
01:06arrival complete authority over the operation of the company.
01:09Elaine, the creative liaison at the place, and Craig, one of the senior coders, join
01:14hands to unravel the mystery behind the consultant.
01:17They find out that Padov's previous employer Victor Kolzer was killed a few days after
01:21signing a contract with the consultant, raising suspicion.
01:25Elaine and Craig go through the CCTV footage of the day Sang signed Padov's contract and
01:29realize that the latter met him without even an appointment, making Sang sign the document
01:34within an hour.
01:35They also watch Sang engaging in oral sex with Padov.
01:39The consultant continues to puzzle the duo since he doesn't even leave the office or
01:42sleep at night.
01:44Elaine learns about a record room that exists in the company, which stores the personal
01:47files of all the employees, including her.
01:50Meanwhile, Sang's mother arrives in Los Angeles to visit the company.
01:55Padov consoles the heartbroken woman and offers to take her to a hotel.
01:59Mother Sang never reaches the hotel and Elaine wonders whether the consultant killed her.
02:04Under Padov's leadership, Craig's ideas are valued.
02:07He introduces a demo version of a game he has been developing to Padov, who encourages
02:11the coder to develop the same.
02:14He goes to a secret pub with Padov, only for the latter to kidnap a woman named Melani
02:18from the place.
02:19Craig releases her from the consultant's custody and she asks him to reach out to Frank Flores
02:23If he wants to know more about the consultant, Padov tells his employee that he'd abducted
02:27Melani as part of an intervention.
02:30When the coder returns to the pub, he sees an office running at the place without any
02:34indication of a pub previously operated at the place.
02:37Flashback scenes reveal that Padov met Sang when the latter was losing control of the
02:41company due to financial troubles.
02:44The consultant let Sang know that he knew about the latter's suicidal thoughts.
02:48Padov offered to run the company and protect Sang's legacy after the founder's death.
02:53Since Sang had been considering killing himself, he signed the contract because it would protect
02:57his legacy and reputation without the cost of a dime.
03:00Padov then informed Sang that he would die soon.
03:03The consultant, in the present time, meets Tokyo in prison, indicating that he is the
03:07one behind the child murderer.
03:10Craig meets Flores and the latter reveals that several doctors used to give him orders
03:14to create human bones out of gold using checks, signed by Regis Padov.
03:18He lets the coder know that Padov doesn't really exist and that the name Regis Padov
03:22is a shortened form of Registered U.S. Patent Office.
03:26Craig's fiancée Patti thinks that her partner has feelings for Elaine, which leads her to
03:29Padov as an act of revenge.
03:32He locks her up in the record room and Patti works for him without any concerns as if she
03:35is under the influence of the consultant.
03:38Elaine and Craig find mother Sang in Los Angeles with Patti's phone.
03:42Craig believes that his partner is abducted by Padov.
03:45Is Regis Padov a human or robot?
03:48When Craig finds out that Patti is locked up by Padov, he sends Elaine to rescue her
03:52while he confronts the consultant.
03:54He takes a lesson from the game he created and destroys the glass on which Padov is standing,
03:59only for him to fall and severe a toe.
04:01Craig picks up the toe and later dissects it, only to find a man-made golden bone, seemingly
04:05made by Flores, indicating that Padov is not a human being.
04:10Flores was commissioned by a group of doctors to create 206 bones, the average number of
04:14bones present in an adult human being using gold.
04:18The doctors, or even individuals who pretended to be doctors seemingly assembled the parts
04:22they bought from Flores, to create Regis Padov.
04:26Padov has displayed enough indicators for one to correctly theorize that he is a robot.
04:30His inability to climb the staircase and understand data instantly and his repetition of certain
04:35sentences do indicate that he isn't necessarily a human being right after he arrives at CompWare.
04:41Padov being a robot also explains why he doesn't sleep.
04:44The only activity he does that he shouldn't necessarily do as a robot is his food consumption.
04:50Padov must have been using the activity as a way of bonding with the humans around him,
04:53which explains the need of sharing a beer with Craig or eating sushi with Patty.
04:58He must be removing the food at the abandoned toilet on the top of a hill, which is found
05:01and destroyed by Craig.
05:03Ultimately, Padov can be considered a representative of corporate heads who runs their companies
05:08without any human consideration.
05:10As a boss, the consultant not only doesn't mind watching his employees competing and
05:14fighting against each other to produce better results, but also finds the same amusing.
05:19He doesn't even think twice about firing his employees for ignorable reasons, making the
05:23company an authoritarian space, which resembles several real-life corporate workspaces.
05:29Padov also doesn't have an ethical code.
05:31He gets excited about unleashing an elephant in the city of Los Angeles to promote a game
05:35for the company and gamers harming themselves when they cannot proceed in the same game.
05:40The robot Padov is not severely different from human corporate moguls who built their
05:43empires above human sufferings.
05:46His existence as a robot leads us to the reality of corporate moguls becoming machines without
05:50any humanity or compassion.
05:53Why does Padov leave CompWare?
05:55Where does he go?
05:57When Padov decides to become the consultant of CompWare, the only objective in front of
06:01him was to take the company back to a position of financial security.
06:05He achieves the same through the success of a Mr. Sang's Jungle Odyssey.
06:09He leaves CompWare after changing its entire culture.
06:13Under Sang, the company was a friendly space where the employees' needs were prioritized
06:16over the financial or corporate needs of the establishment.
06:19Padov changes the same by instilling competitiveness in his employees and killing consideration
06:23for their colleagues.
06:25He witnesses his employees fighting each other, which satisfies his need for competitiveness.
06:31Since he is a machine, Padov doesn't need money.
06:34He doesn't have any reason to continue staying at CompWare after fulfilling his objective.
06:38Thus, he leaves the company for another company in turmoil, Pterodactyl Robotics.
06:44Before leaving CompWare, he visits the boss of the robotics company, only for the individual
06:48to die a few days later, resembling the deaths of Sang and Victor Kolzer.
06:53Padov must be aiming to save the robotics company from financial turmoil by implementing
06:57drastic corporate measures such as competitiveness, subjectivity, lack of equity, etc.
07:02Does Alain become the new CompWare boss?
07:05How?
07:06Yes, Alain does become the new CompWare boss.
07:10After the launch party of Mr. Sang's Jungle Odyssey, Alain returns to the office the next
07:14day, only to see Padov's office empty with her name on the door.
07:18She gains the position by becoming another Padov by killing her compassion and human
07:22consideration.
07:24When Padov joined CompWare, Alain was a highly compassionate individual.
07:28She raises her voice against the consultant firing employees over ignorable reasons.
07:33But gradually, she becomes another version of the vicious consultant.
07:37She starts by tricking Ian to gain his office and using CraigsGame to please the new boss.
07:42When Padov insists that he wants a wild elephant to create havoc in the streets of Los Angeles
07:46to promote his game, the compassionate Alain changes herself and arranges the same.
07:51She doesn't feel any regret or guilt when the wild animal destroys the order in the
07:55city and eventually gets killed by the authorities.
07:57When her ex-boyfriend Patrice tries to come clean about the same, she plots his arrest
08:01by offering an anonymous tip to the authorities to get him imprisoned.
08:05To conclude, Alain starts to prioritize the best for the business without a thought about
08:09ethics or empathy.
08:11Padov must have tried to find his successor at CompWare right after joining the company.
08:16He may have also considered Craig, who fails to please him since he frees the abducted
08:19Milani against the consultant's wishes.
08:22When Alain doesn't show the weakness of compassion, Padov must have decided that she is the right
08:26person for the job.
08:28That's all for now folks.
08:30I would appreciate it if you could give the video a super thanks with a thumbs up and
