00:00If I told you this was my Porsche Taycan and I definitely didn't just go to my nearest dealership and
00:05ask if I could sit in one for 10 minutes to film an unboxing, you would believe me, right?
00:23So this is the Porsche Design Honor Magic 6 RSR.
00:27Well, this is the box and it's a very nice box. Lots of goodies inside there, including this case,
00:32which I suggest you might want to use if you do buy this because it's quite an expensive phone.
00:37But it's a lovely case with a stitching here.
00:39But if I just take that off for a second, this is the Magic 6 RSR and compared to the
00:46original Magic 6 Pro, which only launched, well, a couple of months ago, really,
00:50I'm really pleased to say that this isn't just some branding exercise where they've taken this and slapped on a Porsche design logo.
00:55This is a genuine upgrade.
00:57They've brought some tech over from the latest high-end EVs to actually make the screen and particularly the camera quite a bit better.
01:04But seriously, though, the camera on this thing is incredible, but I'll come back to this in a second.
01:12So a big thank you to Honor for sending me this to unbox and have a play with and the very first thing you'll notice
01:16is this unique Porsche design
01:19design. It all feels a bit more serious, a bit more premium.
01:23Although it is also giving me Galactic Empire Tie Fighter vibes.
01:27Now, this is the agate grey colorway, or flavor as I prefer to say, one of two options and this is kind of a more
01:35subtle, arguably more timeless look inspired by classic Porsche 911s.
01:39But we do also have a frozen berry color and my buddy Carl Conrad recently unboxed that and you can get the new Taycan in
01:46this color and it is a bit more eye-catching.
01:49Both look fantastic though and get this Porsche inspired fly line design up the back to this hexagonal camera module.
01:55The sides now use a tougher titanium material and Honor have improved the drop resistance of the glass, both the front and the back,
02:02although in particular the screen gets their new anti-scratch nano crystal shield.
02:06Now the dimensions are exactly the same as the Magic 6 Pro in height, depth and width, although because we have that titanium edge
02:13this is a little bit heavier. It's 237 grams.
02:16So it is a fairly hefty phone, but we do have this big 6.18 screen and it is still lovely and thin.
02:22But if you're thinking, Tom, you're not really showing off just with one Porsche design phone, are you? Well, no, of course not.
02:28Here's my other one.
02:29It's the Porsche design Honor Magic V2 RSR and this is the Porsche design version of the foldable, one of my favorite folding phones
02:37from last year and still an absolutely incredible design and I still can't get over just how thin this thing is.
02:44But I do really appreciate the design language here. You can see how similar they look, definitely a nice sort of aesthetic between those two.
02:51It's really just down to whether you want a foldable or a regular slate phone.
02:54Although obviously this is based on last year's V2, this is based on this year's Magic 6.
03:00So this does have the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, better cameras, slightly more advanced hardware,
03:05but both phones come with this custom Porsche theme and wallpapers,
03:09although you may want to hide all your other apps from the home screen to keep this aesthetic.
03:14But between these two, which would you go for?
03:18OK, we need to talk about this screen.
03:20It is still 6.8 inches, still 120 Hertz and still with the class leading 4320 Hertz PWM, which helps reduce eye fatigue.
03:29But what sets this apart is the new tandem dual layer OLED display.
03:33And this is the same technology Porsche's use for their in-car displays.
03:37And it has two main advantages.
03:39It boosts the global peak brightness of the phone up to 1800 nits versus 1600 on the Magic 6 Pro.
03:45And at the same time, it's more efficient, so it uses less battery.
03:48And if you missed my big battery test with, I think, nine different flagship phones,
03:52well, spoiler alert, the Magic 6 Pro came in second place, only behind the Vivo with its MediaTek processor.
03:58So potentially this RSR could last even longer.
04:02Now, specs wise, the RSR is largely the same as the 6 Pro.
04:05Same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, same 5600 mAh battery,
04:09although they have boosted the RAM up to 24 gigabytes versus 16.
04:13And that's paired with one terabyte of storage.
04:16So this thing is kind of a beast.
04:19But for me, the best part about all of this is the camera.
04:22The thing is, the Honor Magic 6 Pro already offers an exceptional camera,
04:27which introduced their latest Honor Falcon camera system with their Motion Sensing 2 technology
04:31and a triple lens setup, including a 50 megapixel main lens, 50 megapixel ultrawide,
04:36and a whopping 180 megapixel telephoto.
04:39But the engineers designing the Magic 6 RSR figured they could make it even better.
04:44And if I show you a couple of snaps side by side, and these are straight out of the camera, no edits,
04:49can you see any differences?
04:51How about in the highlights and the shadows?
04:54Well, there are two main upgrades here.
04:56We have a new custom Lofic HDR sensor and an industry-leading LiDAR matrix autofocus system.
05:03Essentially, better exposure and dynamic range and faster focusing.
05:07So the first thing is that this sensor now uses Lofic technology.
05:11Lofic? Lofic? L-O-F-I-C.
05:13Which we don't normally see in phones and basically gives the sensor
05:17a little bit of extra headroom when it comes to exposure.
05:20Like if you have a really bright or really high contrast scene.
05:23And in fact, this new sensor gives us six times the dynamic range sensing capabilities versus the previous gen.
05:29So where you may normally have had an overexposed highlight or a blown out area of the image,
05:33the Magic 6 RSR can handle greater levels of exposure, retaining more information,
05:38giving us better photos and videos.
05:46The second upgrade is with this LiDAR matrix autofocus system.
05:50Essentially, they've taken HDR tech used in advanced driver assistance systems.
05:55Because as cars tend to move quite quickly and also lighting can change incredibly quickly,
05:59you know, like going into or out of a tunnel,
06:01the car's HDR cameras and sensors have to adapt incredibly quickly to keep the ADAS systems accurate.
06:07And so with this, we have the industry's first 1,200-point, 60-fps autofocus sensor.
06:13So the Magic 6 RSR is much better at keeping focus, particularly with a moving subject,
06:18like, I don't know, fast-moving kids or pets.
06:20And it puts pretty much all other phones to shame.
06:27But as you would expect, being a Porsche design, a top-level flagship phone,
06:33it's not going to be cheap.
06:34So it's not going to be for everyone, but it is good to see that this isn't just some branding exercise
06:38where they've slapped on a car company's design studio badge on their phone and resold it,
06:43but they've genuinely put some effort into improving this,
06:46taking the tech from these high-end cars and improving the phone.
