We take a look at everything you can be getting up to this half term across Wales.
Transcript
00:00Wales is absolutely full of things to do. There aren't many better times to explore
00:07than during the school holidays, and this October half-term is the perfect chance to
00:11embrace all the autumnal and Halloween events and things to do all across the country.
00:17From ghost trains to pumpkin patches and wetland centres to museum events, there's something
00:21for everyone wherever you are in Wales, and we'll just be taking a look at the highlights.
00:26So there is certainly plenty more to explore that we didn't even get a chance to look
00:29into today. First off, we'll take a look at the Halloween
00:34events and get into the spooky spirit with things to do across the country.
00:39Pumpkin patches have become a staple of Halloween for many people, and every year more and more
00:44are opening up with thousands, possibly even millions of pumpkins around Wales just waiting
00:49to be picked. We visited Clearwell Farm just between Newport
00:54and Cardiff on a number of occasions, but there are so many more. Your best bet is to
00:58take a look around for the ones closest to you. So many farms are getting into the Halloween
01:03spirit with big and small pumpkin patches, you'll just have to find the one that's closest
01:08or best for you. St Fagans is back with their annual Halloween
01:13Nights event, which fills the whole open-air museum with fictional and semi-fictional characters
01:18leading you through their stories, telling spooky tales, all culminating in an extravagant
01:23burning of the wicker man to round things off, saying goodbye to the summer months and
01:27bringing us into the winter. The National Botanic Gardens of Wales are
01:33also getting in on the spooky fun with their Dragons' Breath event, an after-hours look
01:37around the site with a mythical trail taking you through the story of a dying dragon who's
01:41made a home at the gardens, featuring Celtic poetry and music, and tying in the garden's
01:46incredible beauty along with ancient Welsh folklore.
01:51This half-term though, it's not just Halloween events that are taking place around the country,
01:55with museums all over Wales hosting special events to celebrate the Welsh Museum Festival.
02:01It's not only the big and national museums as well involved, with 20 different museums
02:05all putting their own events on, getting the little ones involved.
02:11You've got Ceredigion Museum celebrating the Celtic festival of Calangaiab, Sir Henry Jones
02:16Museum hosting artistic and crafty events, the Egypt Centre hosting escape rooms during
02:21the half-term featuring real objects from their collections, and the Rhondda Heritage
02:24Park putting on drama and performance-based workshops, getting everyone in the family
02:29involved, teaching them all about Celtic traditions.
02:31That's just a very small sample of all the amazing things to do and museums all across
02:37Wales during the half-term. Of course, some of the classic places to visit
02:42are also open, like the Zip World in North Wales, one of the top-tier zipline experiences
02:46anywhere in the world. Folly Farm, Wetland Centres, or you could just take a visit to
02:51Cardiff Bay and have a walk around the marina. Whatever it is you're looking for this half-term,
02:55I've no doubt you'll find it.
