00:00Hey, what's up everybody? I'm Lala.
00:02I'm an actor, entrepreneur,
00:04but most importantly, I'm a mom.
00:06Self-care is something that I'm working on,
00:08definitely trying to get better at.
00:10I don't think I figured out the self-care
00:12and work balance just yet.
00:14I'm a worker. I work really, really hard.
00:16But understanding that, you know, taking time off,
00:18taking time for myself is a form of self-care
00:21and it'll make me better at my job.
00:23It'll make me better as a mom.
00:24You know, when you're running yourself in the ground,
00:26you're not going to be good for anyone.
00:27So I've learned that the hard way a couple of times
00:29and just trying to get better at it.
00:31But that's definitely not a department
00:33I feel like I have completely figured out just yet.
00:36I'm most proud of seeing, you know,
00:38young men who are incarcerated
00:40coming out and becoming, you know, great citizens,
00:43getting great jobs, being leaders in our community.
00:46There's no greater feeling.
00:47A program at a Rikers Island for young men ages 18 to 21
00:50that we work with every week
00:52and help them with housing and jobs upon their release.
00:55And it's been just so gratifying
00:57just to see the success that has come out of the program
01:00and to see young men happy and living out their dreams,
01:03things that they never could have even imagined
01:05that they would be able to do.
01:07That's what I'm most proud of.
01:09As a parent, whatever you're trying to teach your kid
01:11is leading by example.
01:12You know, I can't say,
01:13give back and it's important and then I'm not doing it.
01:15Whether it's, you know, during the holidays
01:17and we do this big winter wonderland
01:19where we give Christmas to 400 inner city kids.
01:21Whether it's the prison reform program,
01:23he's constantly seeing a give back mentality
01:26and he's, you know, learning that
01:28because that's what he sees.
01:29I've had plaque psoriasis for 10 years.
01:31It was showing up on my skin as these itchy patches,
01:34primarily behind my ears, in my eyebrows.
01:36And I had it really bad in my scalp
01:38and not knowing what it was, was the scary part
01:40because it's like, what is this?
01:42Where is it coming from?
01:43And then I talked to my doctor
01:44and found out that it was plaque psoriasis,
01:46which is an autoimmune disease
01:48that occurs inside the body and it's manageable.
01:51So I wanted to partner with Amgen.
01:53I thought it was the right time to use my voice.
01:55And of course, my platform,
01:56to just educate people on plaque psoriasis
01:58and let people know it's not something
02:00that you have to hide or be scared of
02:02or, you know, you can't live a happy life
02:04or like me, be in front of the camera.
02:06So we did a really, really cool interactive video
02:09called Moments with Lala
02:10where you get to see my crazy life
02:12and behind the scenes living with plaque psoriasis,
02:14but also just showing people
02:16that you can be confident and happy with it
02:19and you don't have to, you know,
02:20be scared of anything or hide.
02:22It shouldn't be something
02:23that's stopping you from living life.
02:24It shouldn't be something
02:25that's affecting your confidence.
02:27You can still be confident.
02:28You can still have eyes on you,
02:30be in front of the camera
02:31and be happy and feel good about yourself.
02:34So you shouldn't let it make you feel like
02:36you got to hide in a corner somewhere.
02:37That's definitely not what we want to do.
02:39And the more people that are talking about it,
02:41the more people that are educating themselves about it,
02:43the more we can get the word out
02:44that you don't have to do that.
