Malaysia is set to showcase its rich handicraft heritage at next year’s Asean Summit, with all gifts and souvenirs sourced from local artisans, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced.

When tabling Budget 2025 on Friday (Oct 18), the Prime Minister also mentioned that Malaysia’s chairmanship of Asean 2025 presents a crucial opportunity to guide the region with resilience and creativity, and expressed confidence in Malaysia’s leadership role, highlighting the upcoming inaugural Asean-GCC + China Summit as a key platform to strengthen regional economic cooperation.

00:05This is the best opportunity for us to test the potential of the ASEAN Community,
00:10which is called the ASEAN Community Potential 2045.
00:14We are committed to making ASEAN 7 more sustainable,
00:20creative, and inclusive.
00:23We are committed to the principle of joint approach,
00:26development agenda,
00:29and move development in the border areas.
00:34This includes our efforts to improve development in the north of Malaya,
00:40with South Siam,
00:42Johor, Singapore,
00:44in addition to events involving ASEAN partners.
00:49ASEAN is now being tested
00:52as a field of competition,
00:56avoiding competition in major powers,
01:00and we can establish a clear framework
01:05in the Five-Point Consensus on the Myanmar issue,
01:09and also free to solve the problem of the South China Sea
01:14in a frugal and lenient manner.
01:19What is interesting, as I said in the Parliament last week,
01:24is the increase in confidence in Malaysia
01:28for the first time in ASEAN,
01:30which is to host the ASEAN Summit,
01:33the GCC Arab countries,
01:35and China for the first time.
01:39To support these efforts,
01:43there are some of our commitments.
01:47Dozens of high-ranking meetings,
01:51hundreds of meetings of right-wing ministers and officials,
01:57all the gifts given
