00:00Okay, so I've been using the iPhone 11 Pro for 4 or 5 days at this point, and the early
00:08reviews are very accurate.
00:09The camera on this phone is shockingly good.
00:12It's weird that they went from the XS camera to this.
00:16Like the jump in both like low-light photography, regular photography, it's a very big gap.
00:22And it's just, it's a testament as to how good their software team is.
00:26The computational kind of photography that's going on in here is amazing.
00:30I'm not going to say that they're the first people to do it, like clearly Google has been
00:33using Night Sight and all the other companies like Samsung, Huawei, they've been shooting
00:37great low-light photography for a year or maybe more at this point.
00:41But the 11 Pro does it in an incredibly intuitive way.
00:44Like I would actually consider this to be the best camera on the market right now when
00:49it comes to just overall software, hardware, and just ease of use.
00:53Like the simplicity of this camera system is really one of its best features for the
00:56average person.
00:57I gave this phone to my mom, she was able to shoot low-light photos without any kind
01:00of menu navigation.
01:01The camera is so good.
01:03And I also like how they use the different lenses in the live preview, like you can actually
01:07see the other focal lengths.
01:08Like this picture here is going to be taken with the regular lens, but you can see in
01:12the kind of like the shaded area, that's being stitched in from the wider lens.
01:16It's actually really cool.
01:17So the camera system on the iPhone 11 Pro is banging, and the software on this whole
01:21device just feels so fluid and just so well done.
01:25And the fact that you can run it on the iPhone SE, like a three-and-a-half-year-old phone
01:28at this point, it's awesome, but the hardware on this phone still feels so lackluster for
01:372019.
01:38And people are going to be like, Dave, you're just such an Apple hater.
01:39It's not about that.
01:40Like clearly I like the camera, it's a winner, but the overall package just isn't doing it
01:44for me.
01:45I like their phones, it's just when you have access to stuff like 90 hertz screens and
01:50just universal charging, it's hard to appreciate what this phone offers for $1,000, despite
01:55the class-leading camera.
01:57Now the thing that sucks about this whole thing is that I feel like Apple purposely
02:01does this.
02:02See, we're in year three of Apple's three-year product cycle.
02:06They do this with their phones now, and they currently do this with their laptops it seems,
02:10where they bring out a new model on the first year, they kind of tweak it on the second
02:13year, and then they tweak it again in the third year.
02:16So this third year, which is where we're in right now, the third year of this kind of
02:19notched iPhone shape, it's the hardest year for Apple to market a product, right?
02:24Like the device has been out for three years, it doesn't look particularly fresh and new,
02:28so they gotta do some stuff to push these devices a little bit more aggressively, but
02:31good computational photography isn't new, it's just new to the iPhone.
02:35And when I say I feel like they do it on purpose, it's just that you know Apple's a trillion
02:39dollar company.
02:40If they want to, they could implement all this stuff in just one year.
02:42They could have, like, great computational photography and high refresh OLED screens
02:47and USB-C charging and, you know, have a smaller notch.
02:50They could do all of this in one year in this, like, super phone.
02:54They'd sell a ton of those super phones for that one year, but then no one would buy iPhones
02:58for several years.
02:59So that's why they do this, to keep people coming back for more iPhones every year.
03:04It's great money.
03:05So, we know that next year is supposed to be hardware redesign, with new screen sizes,
03:08the potential of USB-C charging, faster screens, smaller notches, like the whole iPhone family
03:13is supposed to be redesigned next year.
03:14See, for me, as much as I like this camera and as much as I like this phone, it actually
03:19surprised me.
03:20Like, I feel like they did a really good job in what they delivered for a third-year product.
03:25I'm still going to wait.
03:26Like, as much as I like this camera, it's not enough for me to switch over to this.
03:29Because I know that if I buy this phone, I hold on for like three, four years, I'm going
03:32to be using lightning ports again for another three or four years, F that.
03:37I'm just going to keep up with the SE as my Apple phone if I ever need to use one.
03:40Like, I actually had to use this phone recently to record my kid when he was first learning
03:43how to ride his bike, and I also found some Caterpillar that he really wanted photos and
03:47videos of, and the image quality on this stuff is mediocre at best, but I caught the memory
03:52and that's really the most important thing when it comes to at least most photography
03:55that I'm doing.
03:56Sometimes, camera upgrades are awesome, and the iPhone 12 this year is like, it really
04:01is something special, but the hardware still feels a little too stale for me.
04:05I'm going to wait for the iPhone 12, because I know that one is going to be awesome.
04:08Okay, I hope you guys enjoyed this video.
04:09Thumbs if you liked it, subs if you loved it.
04:11See you guys next time.
04:13Bye.
