00:02Welcome to our detailed breakdown of the new Scorpion Covert helmet, available at RevZilla.com.
00:12New for the fall of 16, this is the Scorpion Covert, and I will tell you, I have not seen
00:17a helmet that carries on this lineage in quite some time.
00:21We saw the Bell Rogue do the Bane style of things.
00:23We saw Cobra Commander and the Shark Raw.
00:26Scorpion Covert has its own flavor, and you might be saying, oh, Scorpion, you're late
00:30to the party.
00:31We're actually saying that I like that they're on time.
00:33If we look at it, it's the most integrated setup for any of these helmets that have the
00:37removable muzzle.
00:38If you're new to this, when I call the removable muzzle out, it means that this rubberized
00:43chin component, the muzzle, actually comes off.
00:46You can see it's sueded on the inside.
00:47It uses neodymium magnets to guide it back in, but that's really the claim to fame here.
00:52It's going to give you the opportunity to choose if you want to be open face, notice
00:56how they guide their way back in, or if you want to wear it on.
00:59What we like about this helmet is it's very Stormtrooper-ish.
01:03It's very futuristic.
01:04This is the Ratnik graphic.
01:05There's also a matte black, but we like the fact that the drop-down sun visor integrates
01:10with the muzzle.
01:11None of the other helmets that have done the removable muzzle have done that.
01:13They've all said, wear your sunglasses.
01:15You can wear your sunglasses or a pair of goggles on this helmet, but if you want, you
01:19now have the ability to just keep it nice and easy and integrate it, block the wind,
01:23and use the dark smoke shield.
01:26Taking a big step back, you're around the $200 mark.
01:28Let's talk briefly about fitment here on the Scorpion Covert.
01:32Scorpion Covert's going to be an intermediate oval head shape.
01:35It's not going to be overly round or overly narrow.
01:37Should fit fine within the American market.
01:39It's DOT rated, and again, it's using the same quality EPS that we'd see within the
01:44Scorpion line.
01:45No real questions there.
01:46Remember, use a size chart.
01:47We'll ship it for $339 if you're concerned.
01:49What I'd really love to know is, are you as excited about it as we are when it comes to
01:53these removable muzzle type designs?
01:55Now, I'll tell you, quick sidebar, I think everybody should wear a full face helmet because
01:58this part of the helmet's not DOT rated, but if you're going for a little bit of mixture
02:01of style and function, it's pretty cool.

02:11Now, if we dive in, it is a polycarb helmet.
02:14We think about it.
02:15Polycarb's not going to be composite.
02:16It's not going to use any fiberglass, but it's three pounds, six ounces.
02:18Again, remember, it's DOT rated as a open face helmet.
02:22This part of the helmet is DOT rated.
02:24This part of the helmet is EPS that extends.
02:26It is not.
02:27This part's actually removable.
02:28You could wear the helmet without it, but that's really your only gripe is we don't
02:31think it looks great when you start to completely disassemble it.
02:34Most people, I would imagine, that are buying this helmet are going to wear it in this configuration
02:37or with the muzzle off.
02:39The other thing to call out is if we think about the Shark Royal, the Bell Rogue, neither
02:42one had venting.
02:44This Scorpion Covert actually has chimney vents now that are going to funnel air back
02:47through the helmet.
02:48There's no exhaust.
02:49Again, you're getting better functionality of a helmet that's in that same price range.
02:52Again, it won't break the bank, and it's a very unique style piece.
02:56If we look at it, this ridge adds some style, but it's really to house the integrated sun
03:00visor system that flips up and down with these two scoops on either side.
03:04If we look at the back, it's just going to come down nice and neatly and finish off.
03:07Remember, around the bottom, this EPS is fully removable.
03:10The DOT element ends right here, and this piece you can pull off, but again, not my
03:15recommendation.
03:16If we look at the front, the muzzle does have venting.
03:18We showed you on either side how simple it is to remove it.
03:21Just like that, when you're putting it back on, notice that nice satisfying click as you're
03:25going to jam it in there.
03:26Again, neodymium magnets help line that up.
03:28The other thing, again, I'm going to show you one more angle of it.
03:31Notice from the top down, there's a nice gasket in there.
03:33It's going to block you from Mother Nature.
03:35It's going to block some wind out.
03:36It's going to have a nice integration point if you don't want to wear sunglasses or you
03:40don't want to try to snake a pair of goggles under there.
03:42At first glance here, looking at it and playing with it, I think a pair of goggles is probably
03:45going to be a stretch.
03:46I think your sunglasses or a drop-down.
03:48That's going to be different, again, compared to something like the Shark Raw and certainly
03:51different compared to something like the Bell Rogue.
03:53Now, if I grab my donut over here, that almost sounded like a children's nursery rhyme.
03:57I'm going to show you the inner guts here, right?
03:59I have my neck roll, which is fully removable.
04:02Notice it is wicking.
04:03It's using the Quick Quick 2 liner system from Scorpion.
04:05Again, wicking, antimicrobial, nice and soft against the skin.
04:08It uses Velcro to hold it on.
04:10I really don't dock it points.
04:11What I do like is that it's mesh along the back because all the air that came into the
04:14Mohawk on the chimney vent is going to circulate down.
04:16It's going to exit out through the back here.
04:18The fact that that's mesh, it's going to allow it to breathe and allow you to have better
04:21air circulation and extraction.
04:23If I open this up from the bottom and pull off my muzzle now, you're going to see, again,
04:27one more shot of the interior guts.
04:28There are your magnets.
04:29There are your ventilation holes on the front.
04:31Notice, if you are riding in the cold, this is not going to be able to be closed.
04:34Again, you're going to have a lot of air coming in there.
04:37Just keep that in mind.
04:38We look at the rest of it, double D-ring construction, no surprises there.
04:41I'm going to pull out my integrated QuickWick 2 liner, basic mesh, basic foam, four points
04:48of snap.
04:49Again, using all the features you'd expect to see in a mid-range Scorpion helmet.
04:52It doesn't make me go over the moon, but it also doesn't bug me.
04:55It's, again, what I'd expect from a QuickWick 2.
04:57It's tried, it's true, it's proven, but it's not adding a ton of cost here.
05:00The other thing to call out is notice the ventilation scheme on this helmet.
05:04They gave you the chimney vents and they're giving you great cutaways in the EPS to allow
05:07you to circulate that air flow.
05:09Again, remember, that's going to come in through the top.
05:11It's going to run all the way down the backside, under your skull, and exit through the neck
05:15roll.
05:16Again, very, very thoughtful.
05:17The last thing that we would see here is this non-DUT EPS piece.
05:21It is removal.
05:22There are two hooks on either side, and the way you pull it out is by yanking on this
05:25bad boy and ripping it off.
05:27Again, we'll show you what that looks like with this uninstalled, but we absolutely don't
05:30like it.
05:31We think it looks a little bit goofy, like a mushroom head.
05:32It sits too high.
05:33There's nothing to balance it out when you do remove this.
05:35That'll be your call, but I'm telling you up front, don't buy this helmet expecting
05:39that to look great.
05:40It's just going to look okay, too slightly goofy.
05:42Now, remember, what do we like about it?
05:44We like the seal of the gasket.
05:45If you install everything back, we put our muzzle back on, which I will do, show you
05:48really quickly how quickly, one more time, and easily those magnets line up.
05:52We love that.
05:53We love that integration.
05:54We like the look out of it.
05:55It balances its way out.
05:56Again, it's a different flavor on this muzzle design, but I will tell you this.
06:00Before you click on and read other rider reviews, I'm going to tell you that most impacts happen
06:03to the face, and this is non-DUT rated.
06:05This is a flexible rubber, so if you are worried about protection, it might not be the direction
06:09you want to go.
06:10I always recommend a full face helmet for folks just because of the nature of so many
06:13wrecks.
