00:00When you mentioned there's been a learning process since last year, when you and I spoke last year,
00:04you were getting ready to join the Big 12 and we talked about the challenges that would come
00:07with a transition like that. So what did you take away from going 2-7 in conference play last year
00:13that has helped you make this major turnaround thus far this year?
00:18Well I think for us it's just to make it real. I think the answer is that our guys are here,
00:23we went through the experience and then you just have to know what's to get better at. And we knew
00:28going into the season that it was going to be tough last year, but we also we needed some
00:33deficiencies. We didn't know exactly where to get better at and as we went through that experience,
00:38I mean I don't think we're getting overwhelmed physically by people. We just were making
00:42mistakes and we weren't doing a lot of good. In terms of like the football game, we weren't
00:48playing complementary football. We weren't playing fundamentally sound and that can happen when
00:52you're going against tough teams and this is the first time in BYU history that you've had to go
00:55through this nine-game stretch of playing tough teams, P4 teams. And so that was a learning
01:01experience for all of our guys and it just put a sense of urgency for them. Now they know what
01:05to compare it to when in the past it was just kind of like us, me and the coaches talking about it
01:10saying it's going to be hard and all this stuff. I compared it to becoming a father for the first
01:14time. You think you can know everything about being a parent until you actually become one
01:18and anyone can warn you, you have your opinions. But actually when you go through it, it's like
01:22oh yeah, this is way different than I thought. So now that these guys know what to compare it to,
01:26I think it's easier now to go through the offseason, the conditioning,
01:31the importance of learning the playbook and everybody doing their 111.
